Quin’s Rainbow Vale - Tom Meier Trolls!! (518 Points)

Rank & File II

Decided to take things easy this month and painted these lovely figures sculpted by Tom Meier. For some differentiation of units I decided before the challenge to field this unit of trolls as skirmishing foresters accompanied by a forest giant.
Starting off with this Tom Meier Cloud Giant, painted as a forest giant he definitely gives me ent-y vibes. Truly a powerful protector of the forests.

Up next we have a Fantasy Tribes Troll 5 v2 “Troll in Furs with Axe and Shield” his mohawk is red as requested by Lissanne, however I did have to add some stripes to it to break up the solid block of color. Loved painting this troll in an orc-y fashion and hope to get my hands on more of the FTF range at some point.
I made the mistake of painting his pupils a blue too similar to his green skin tone, meaning his eyes are hard to see properly... I’ll have to go back over them at some point in the future..

Tom Meier Stone Giant, in scale really much closer to a troll than any giant and will be used as such. I think the pair of these may have been marketed as trolls at one point as well.

Tom Meier Forest Giant- I hadn’t actually planned on including this model in the army, but while I was waiting for basing material to dry on the other trolls, I found this figure sitting in my painting queue, already based and primed! I had initially been planning on including him in a rabble of peasants.

Finally, an Asgard Hill Troll. Absolutely love this chap and I’m quite pleased with his orange scales & green hair.

Next month more trolls!

Forest Giant - 250 Points
4 Troll Foresters 67 points each - 268 points
Total Points for February - 518 points

Filippo's Iron Warriors - Rank& File Month I - Terminators, Veterans and a special guest (697 points)

Rank & File month, could it be something easier? Not with Chaos Marines.

Chaos, unlike Space Marines, does not have "easy" 10 unit choices.

Marines are, to be honest, boring (damn you Guilliman and your stupid codex): You can have 10 Tactical marines, 10 Devastators, 10 Assault marines..

Chaos is different, that that means you can have 3+ (uber) men squads.

But the minimum is 10 models or more, so let's start and throw something on the table.

First is my 5x Chaos Terminator with their full panoply of weapons (320 points)

They can chop, cut, smash, frag, melt or shock to death the opponents with their awesome stripes, pick your favourite.

Next is a 3 Veteran Chaos Marines, with two flamer (123 points). They have spent the last 10 thousand years in ambush with their flamers ready, waiting for Andrea's Eldars. I gave stripes to you too, don't fail me guys.

They are led by an aspiring champion, with a plasma pistol and a good old chainsaw (37 points). The lad seems promising, hope he'll last at least the first battle (look! more stripes!)

That gives us a total of 9 models. We are missing one.. ehi, what's that sound?

KILL! MAIM! BURN!

KILL! MAIM! BURN!

KILL! MAIM! BURN!

KILL! MAIM! BURN!

KILL! MAIM! BURN!

Kharn, in all his unholy glory (217 points)

Total is 697 points.

That's all for this month, see you in March with even more stripes!

ZeroTwentythree's February Undead (289 pts)

February Entry - Armored Skeletons  (Rank & File pt. 2)

For February I finished the remainder of the regiment of armored skeleton infantry I started in January, including a standard bearer & musician. This time it is a mix of Harlequin/Black Tree (first pic) and Citadel (second pic).

Bonus Figures

"It's called an entourage."

But why?

"I don't know. Seems sort of odd to me, but there's a lot I don't understand about The Liche."

So who are they?

"The grumpy little brute is Purple Nurple. The other they call Rainbow Death.."

...

"No, that's not their Names. That's just what the Others are calling them. I have no idea. The Don and his Circle keep to themselves. I don't think the rider is actually animated. I think it's just some sort of ornament for the unicorn. Apparently they were both friends of his in life. He brought them back"

Not as creepy as Phil the Spectre, at least.

"Agreed."

Field of Bones

I have started on an actual Field of Bones, to honor the Old World Army Challenge's fallen...

... and also to raise them to do my bidding.

Tumulus

Themed terrain. I've been wanting to try this for a while. Not bad. I would like to try a larger and better planned tumulus at some point.

Simon

Why does he keep doing these... things?

"I really, really don't know."

Simon the Toxic Skeleshroom: "Aaaaaaaaagggggggghhhhhhh! Eat me! Aaaaaaaaggggghhhhh!"

Painting

I had a number of comments about the bone colors last time. I like some variety in the bone colors, so this is a quick & dirty explanation. When batch painting I will use 3-4 shade of white or light tan as a base coat. Then I "shuffle" the figures, and use various washes over those base colors. Sometimes I will mix two washes directly on the figure while they are still wet. Maybe even applying one to the top par, another to the bottom, and letting them blend in the middle. The effect is subtle but noticeable.

I also had comments about the rust. I previously posted a step by step of my rust process on my personal blog.

Colossus of Korg Peak

You finally returned. What came of the Liche's mountain venture?

"You know of the Colossus of Korg Point, right?"

Of course. I may not be nearly as old as you, but I know my history and legends.

"He found him."

The Colossus? He's real!?

"Oh, he's real. Frozen for millennia in mountain ice. Remarkably well preserved, in fact."

So he brought him back? With an unstoppable force like that, we could...

"Well yes... but also no. He performed the animation spell, but the brute couldn't free himself from the ice. We had to dig the giant out. There were... problems. The animated dead are not exactly talented or delicate laborers. The ice fractured, the body separated, such waste..."

That should be no problem, the process of binding...

"No, the damage was done. He could not recover it complete. Most of the torso writhed and fell into a chasm before it could be brought under control. I'm sure it will turn up eventually in some poor valley hamlet. But it was not a complete loss. We returned with... parts."

What do you mean?

"We returned with some pieces of the animated corpse."

...

"So the Master had one hand staked in place outside his tumulus. It's still animated, so there's that. Not really a weapon. Maybe it's a... Really, I don't know, I don't get it. It's mostly just pinned there. I think I might even feel bad for it. I think it's bored. Occasionally someone or something will get close and it will flail about, maybe smash something. It's getting really good at sitting perfectly still then crushing between its fingers any bird unfortunate enough to land on it."

"The other hand is on the Middenheim Road harassing travelers in a similar manner. Word has got out, though and most travelers just circumvent the thing. Both feet are creating an unbearable stink to the south. One is hidden in the ventilation tunnels of Karak Ghorne. You should see what he did with the Colossus's privates."

*Scream of Karl-Franz heard echoing in distant Altdorf*

OK. So where does this leave us? What strategic good will this do?

"Strategic good? Hahaha. I would just disregard it. Carry on as if the Colossus was never discovered. The Liche may be a mad genius, but not all of his plans are what most of us would call practical."

Ohhhhh Kaaaaaay. So what is this I heard about some sort of vicious birds?

Point Counts

I'm going a bit off the tracks. Initially I was only going to count the figures that I had planned from the start. But I think I would like to track what sort of a force I will end up with, so I'm going to re-start the calculations & include the extras, though I'm only going to include the bare minimums for most characters.

Jaeckel's dwarfs - Rank & File II - Pikemen (173 points)

Second month of the OWAC V, and second unit of pikemen, after the canton of Uri / BlackHorns clan painted last year. This time, I wanted something inspired from the canton of Schwyz: these new dwarves would wear red and white, and carry a banner showing a white cross on a red background. Efficient, and  simple to paint 😁

The Bernese Chronicle

Admittedly a rather ordinary regiment... until I see this picture in the Chronicon Helvetiae:

No clue what this jester is doing in this illustrated chronicle, but I wanted one for my unit, seconding his lord, and cheering the  guards with lame jokes. So, instead of aligning 10 additional dwarves from the marauder MB1 and MM15 ranges, I have replaced two of them by the gnome jester of the Dwarf King's Court set and the Baron of the Dwarf Lords of Legend set. Et voilà!

And the rest of the bunch:

Now grouped for the family shot:

9 pikemen with musician (the fool) and standard bearer + a Level 5 champion (the Baron) with heavy armour and additional hand weapon =  173 points

With this regiment, I have now painted all the mandatory troops for a 3rd edition Warhammer dwarf army: 40 warriors split into 20 pikemen and 20 halberdiers, and two units of 10 crossbowmen each 🍻

Next month should see a new clan with harquebuses and a hairy mascotte 🐻

Mariano´s Wood Elves - Glade raiders (Mounted archers) - 185 pts

 Rank and File month #II

My objective for February* was to paint not one but two mounted archers units and I have been really closed to do it but an unexpected trip at the end of the month make it totally impossible to achieve it... (arrgggg!)

* Yes, two units on the shorter month, I´m so clever.

The positive side, I have done half of the painting work for the next month so I´ll be able to add an extra unit on March. Who knows???

What have I done this month...?

5 x Glade Raiders with light armour and long bows                                                     Total: 185
Total points: 425

Time to show you some pics... hope you like them.

I have mixed feelings about this month. I happy with the painting work (but not very happy) and a little bit dissapinted because on my head I was "on time" to finish both units but February and real life plans show me that sometimes you have to admid the defeat.

See you next month!!!!
