"The world is a vampire
Sent to drain
Secret destroyers
Hold you up to the flames
And what do I get
For my pain?
Betrayed desires
And a piece of the game"
- Smashing Pumpkins, Bullet With Butterfly Wings, 1995
I chose June as my leader month as it's the end of the school year and, as a teacher, it's usually quite a busy time for me. Also, getting rid of the bigger stuff in the previous months gave me a lot more time to complete this simple task... I only had to paint the 2 miniatures left from my initial list : a vampire and a liche.
After two weeks I didn't like at all where I was going with those two and decided to change for a mounted vampire. A bit less old school but nevertheless a fine addition to my army. I wanted to try something I've never done to paint the sword to make it stand out from a simple steel or rusted one. I wanted a magical sword that looked like a magical sword. So I went on you tube and found this tutorial from Juan Hidalgo, which I like a lot. I am satisfied with the result but I hope to make it better next time.
I still had some time so I added a last miniature: a Blood Dragon vampire. I wanted to try a metallic red armour and a new pattern for a magical sword on this one (tutorial here). I also used oil paint for the first time. I am not happy with the result but, again, it's trials and errors and I hope I will fare better next time!

That's it for June and the end of my painting adventures for OWAC VIII! Final wrap up post in July and there will be no extras as I am travelling in Europe from July 1st to July 23rd.
Cheers!
Ian

ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing - and on trying out some new techniques, they look great!
ReplyDeleteWonderfully gothic Blanche-like colour palette and finish on both characters. Top stuff! :D
ReplyDeleteGreat leaders! Both of their swords are beautifully painted and really stand out. The red armor is also very striking. It’s also great that you had time to try out new techniques. I’ll definitely check out the tutorials you linked and give them a try myself
