Skal's Sanity test, drink more, still painting, drink more. (460 painstaking points)

Words to live by this past month. I can say I have tested my dwarven endurance for drinking and my ability to party like a Hobbit (much like a Hobbit my partying was done at home).

My painting selection for this month was a unit I have been wanting to paint for quite sometime now. These lovely Imperial Dwarfs have always had a place in my heart after I first saw them in the Warhammer Armies book.

Something I never noticed while admiring these wonderfully painted dwarfs was how they were "ranked up" in the studio images. They are not sitting base to base between the ranks. Funny thing about ranking these dwarfs is, it is a real pain in the @$$. I enjoyed the miniatures while I was painting them till they would not stop hitting me with details. I mean damn guys do we all really need two pistols and a fancy coin purse? Really? I ended up painting up a unit of 10 and I still have 10 more I need to paint up (not during this challenge good sir. No thank you).

I decided to stick with the red uniforms as I really like the way they pop in my army. I had a lot of fun sculpting and painting the shields for this unit as they are a bit larger than my previous units.

Next up I needed to add some ranged killing power to help encourage my opponents to want to close the distance between our two forces quickly ( cause you know dwarfs and short legs don't move very quickly. Make your enemy come to you).

I had a lot of fun painting the cannon and the crew. It was also quite enjoyable to do the base so I can quickly place my cannon on the tables during games.

Last but not least I wanted to add a monster selection to the army. I decide to go with a Hydra because I really liked the model, it was an option in the 4th edition Dwarf book and I would be able to use it down the road when I paint up my Chaos army. So win, win.

This month I did alright points wise. I really wanted to do another 10 dwarf unit but the Imperial Dwarfs really did drain my will to paint another unit.

April painting points:
9 Iron Breakers and a Level 5 Hero 189 pts
3 Dwarf Cannon Team 71 pts
1 Hydra 200 pts

April total: 460 pts

Stay safe my friends and if any of you happen to find a bar like this in real life please let me know. The closest I have come is a Viking restaurant in Iceland.

Till next time.

  3. Congrats on beating the grind!
The purple and red work really well in the hydra - and some extra internet points for sculpting your own shields - stirling work sir!

  4. Great models and a great job, especially on the hydra. I've not seen many of them painted.
I've got the Dragon Company in my lead pile, so it's good to know the challenge I'll face with ranking them up.
