goblinpaladin's Gnomes - a June update (70 points)

This project is being kindly sponsored by Old School Miniatures.

We're at the end! Even the gnomes are celebrating!

hmm, weird glitch there. what could that be
  • 3 Fuschsschütze. 45 points.
  • A Gift. 25 points.
  • Camp followers and labourers. FREE
  • TOTAL: 70 points!
This is my 'mulligan' month, but as I'm across the 1000-points threshold, I think we're fine. I've also completely run out of gnomes!

Old School Miniatures, who has kindly sponsored this project, sent me five foxes and five gnome crossbow-wielding riders. I used two foxes for last month's illusionists, while their riders were given over to the swallows.

This was because I already had five Fuschsschütze, and I didn't want to re-use the leader miniature in the squadron. Plus, I am obsessed with making regiments divisible by five (I like '20' or '25' for ranked infantry; 10 for cavalry), so making this squadron eight strong makes them feel more like the irregulars they are.

before anyone starts, round bases for civilians and objective markers

One of my favourite features of the third edition of Warhammer is the baggage train. When OSM released their gnome range, they made sure to include a whole swathe of civilian models for baggage trains as well as terrain sets. I've been wanting them since I saw them.

BWAAAAAAAAAAWM

These three are obviously having a bit of fun. The partying group have been painted as some soldiers carousing - one is in the uniform of the Guarden Gnomen, the other the undyed wool of the Burgher Gnomen raised from the Guild of Wool Manufacturers and Merchants.

The rest have been painted mostly in earthen tones and undyed linen, except the hammerer who got a vaguely 'maybe he works in the armoury' look in black, and the fellow with the sack who got a red coat. I want you all to appreciate that I decided at the last moment not to paint him like a famous man with a sack, but the red remained.

The group also has a watchman in the colours of the Guarden Gnomen. Baggage trains need guards and sentries, otherwise you get halflings.

behold the CUBE

I've prepared an offering for the Overlord. As is traditional,* the Gift must remain beyond mortal sight until the Overlord Himself gazes upon it.

So what's next for the gnomes? I do need to expand the Wool Manufacturers militia to a full regiment of twenty. At the same time, I'm going to buy some carts and more villagers from OSM's second kickstarter, once they've got those in the regular store. I'll also get a Tazelworm. Hopefully some Gnomish heroine to ride it, depending on what the new range has to offer. At that point, I think I'll be fairly happy with this army. It has a core of decent infantry, some skirmishing cavalry, some artillery, some wacky nonsense, and a coterie of officers.

But I would like a little gnome village for them to defend, and Bad Squiddo Games has been previewing some little gnome houses...

*This isn't at all a thing, but ZeroTwentythree does it and it seems fun.

    1. Thanks! I might have to book a table at my local store to make them look decent.

  5. I love how bright your villagers are. I painted mine to match my army and now they feel very drab in comparison :P

About the little gnome with a sack, a friend of mine did a Santa diorama thing for her mother, so I added fur trim to him and a fuzzy poof on the tip of his hat with GS. :)

I've been using those department 56 porcelain christmas houses as homes for my gnomes. But, those bad squiddo homes might make me rethink that. Those are adorable :)

    1. I don't know that we have those things here, but Bad Squiddo to the rescue!

I think it's funny you call the villagers bright when most of them are in browns. It might be the pretty flowers.

  6. I also found that with the pouncing fox pose, you can also bend it so it's more level to the ground and it looks like it's running.

    1. Oh, I didn't think of that. I think it looks good as a front rank - he's pouncing on some artilleryman the scouts have made their way around to.

    1. OSM have some carts pulled by friendly little goats, which I am definitely going to get after Nurgle gets bored.

  10. Great army. So cohesive in their colour scheme 😀 I, like you, have an obsession with 5's and 10's so I totally get your views on the foxes. Looking forward to the round up 👍

    1. Thank you! I'm hoping they all pull together well in the final shot. Unfortunately, I can't grow some proper 80s facial hair, so we'll have to make do.

  11. Such a great & unique project. I've loved seeing each month's new entry. Wonderful way to finish it off, I really like the foxes as well as the camp followers. I think the carts will be a nice addition.
