Filippo's Ultramarines - Introduction

Hi all, My name is Filippo and I'll take Andrea's place this year as "The Italian Guy"

Thanks to him I started to look back at the Oldhammer community. He managed to convince me that buying the same stuff I sold many years ago for much more of their previous value and start a painting competition which will occupy most of my sleeping time was a good idea and my wife would appreciate me more for this.

He lied, but now it's too late.

I've been playing and collecting GW games since 1994, when I entered a GW store in England by mistake and killed all hopes my parents had for me in the future (and my savings).

I always wanted to paint Ultramarines in the same colour scheme GW used, but at that time my painting skills were close to a brain-damaged snow monkey, so the choice fell to the Black Templar, aka "spray it black and call the work done"

Many years have passed, the skills are still low but this time there are a lot of youtube tutorials, so it's time to give it a try!

The project is quite simple: an Ultramarine army painted as close as possible to the original paint scheme (yes, even the goblin green bases)

To be honest, my first choice was Salamandes ("FRIENDSHIP!") since they are already my main army for 40k, Epic Armageddon, Epic 30k, Horus Heresy AND Battlefleet Gothic, but:

  1. The original Salamanders paint scheme gives me seizures
  2. The idea of painting green again makes me want to punch a tree..
Let's start a Tactical Squad with Heavy Bolter and Flamer (324 points). Nothing to say here, the most basic of Marine's choice to test the paint scheme.

Shooting is good, shooting is fun! Here's the second unit: A devastator squad  (445 points) with an Heavy Bolter, Plasma Cannon, Missile Launcher and a Lascannon ("FREEEEEEEEEMMMM")

From the bottom to the top of the Space Marine's ranks, a unit of five Scouts (100 points) and five Terminators (610-ish points with teleport, damn they are expensive..)

(look at them! Terminators are adorable!)

After so much blue it's time to use also some other colours! Bring the whole team: 2 Chaplains, Captainwith power sword and plasma pistol, 2 Librarians, Apothecary, Techmarine and a Company Stendard

Wait.. that's 8 models.. Let's throw in a Land Speeder and make it 10 (413 points in total)

Say hello to PapaSmurf and his BigFists (134 points)

For the wildcard month I still don't know what to do: I have bought MUCH more than needed, plus I still have some old terrain to build. Only time will tell :)

Now, the offering: a Chaos Squat in Exo Armour painted as a part of an Iron Warrior warband

  1. Nice, a squat!! My first.

This a really classic 40k old school force, and that's a compliment. Looking forward to seeing the force grow!
