Wild-Goose Chase! Byron's Hunting Party of Gusseldorf - Wild Card Month (300 points)

This is the wild card month, so I painted up a bunch of minis that don't quite fit in a traditional empire army. First up we have hunting dogs.

The group has 3 different dog poses. I wanted them to look like generic dogs like one would see in medieval manuscripts and illuminated images of hunts since many dog breeds, as we know them now, simply didn't exist back then. Also, I sculpted them to look happy. I think people often take their wargames a tad too seriously, and I'd like my models to have a little fun to them.

I am particularly proud of the dog handler on the left. I think I got his whistling hands/face right.

Next, we have a cannon. Since my minis aren't quite later landsknecht mercenaries but rather an anachronistic blend of 13th-16th century Germans I opted for a cannon that felt a bit older and antiquated. This cannon would not be out of place among Hussites. This seems to really jibe with the vibe of the Empire as it is depicted in the Warhammer Armies book rather than the later 4th ed Empire.

I include this last crew pic because I am happy with how his straining face came out. I felt it really conveyed how heavy a cannon ball might be.

Gustav the assassin - While not exactly proper to an Empire army, I decided to sculpt up an assassin. Maybe he'd find a better fit in a game of Warhammer RPG or Mordheim? I based his pose off of the 4th ed Skaven Assassins.

Finally for this month I have 2 witches and a princess. I don't really care for either witch's paint job so I am only counting them as one wizard for points. The princess pose was meant to be an homage to the classic Princess Leia pose where she stands, hand on hip with a blaster.

  1. Lovely work as always, and I really like the divergence from the 'traditional' Empire army troop types. Hunting Dogs and Assassins feel very Oldhammer to me! :)
