George's Space Dwarfs, Month VI (Wildcard)

The king of Grimshaft knew that his son was brave. He knew that he was a great strategist. He knew that nobody would better seek revenge against the orcs. He also knew that he was a danger to himself.

Prince Grimfist was always on the front line, swinging and shooting from atorogip his trusty rhino. And the king held a small hope that his son would return alive from the crusade against the orcs.

He turned to his most trusted guards to protect his heir. Commissar Grimeye had spent his life quietly maintaining security and rigid dedication to the king and his family. Although appearing mild mannered, he was utterly ruthless and had seen the orc invasion as a personal challenge.

General Grimlock was a hardened veteran who had played an essential role in the successful defence of Grimshaft. He brought with him gunners from the King's personal guard, sharp shooters ready to unleash heavy bolter fire upon the unsuspecting orcks.

"Bring my son back with you." Were the King's final orders. His loyal servants would rather die than fail him.

I've been thinking about painting these minis for a very long time. They were some of the first I saw when I discovered that indie companies were producing space dwarfs and I fell in love immediately. The commissar and general are from Macrocosm Miniatures and the gunners from CP Models.

The colour scheme is based heavily on the commissars from Enemy at the Gates. Those utterly ruthless agents of the Soviet Union seemed to enjoy killing their own comrades more than the enemy, but their red caps really stuck with me. And they conveniently fitted well with my overall colour scheme!

I had originally planned for a larger command group with herthguard, living ancestor and medic. But we had a baby and who knew that would impact painting time?! Again, I don't think my hurried painting would trouble the scorers at Golder demon, but I like the overall effect and would be very happy to deploy these loyal officers on the battlefield.

Commissar Grimeye oversees the crusade!

General Grimlock rushes into battle!

The King's guard unleash heavy fire!
The King's Command!

  1. All the best to you and your family!

A commissar and a Maxim hmg together with the T35 gives the force a surprising look that works very nicely. Nice work!
