Adrian's Rank & File month 2 - No step back (300 points)

Stoic and resolute, none can easily surpass an elf spear phalanx, making the backbone of the elven hosts.

Zyentarhel company is made of trained and skillful soldiers of the warrior kindred, veteran of many raids or even the war against the dwarves.

They come from mixed origin and sport different colours and heraldry of their Tiranoc and Nagarythe lieges. However, it is a nagarythean banner the one who wave and mark their position in the battlefield. Zyentarhel is an officer proud of his homeland and send a message, there are nagarytheans who are still honourable and loyal to the High King.

Another month beaten. Dunno why I decided to paint the largest regiment of the host for February but after a suprisingly productive month, here they are.

As I said with the archers, I opted for mixed heraldry and colours based on the provenance according to the army lore. Also, small details here and there in the clothes to make it visually varied.

I may have met a small problem of time after all and didn't finish the white helmets. I am still undecided to which pattern should I put in them so they're as shown for now (or maybe forever, who knows, they look ok).

For the shields I made a mix of Tiranoc and Nagarythe images, giving also a small tribute to the heraldry of the 3rd edition book with tht griffin. It is also one of the recurring motifs I put in another regiment painted some years ago, so it also uniform regiments.

That's

20x High elf spearmen with full command and a Champion - 300 points

Sorry for the small overexposed pictures of some shields but I had to protect them with glossy varnish before painting the other side. The entire army will need a final matt varnish coat which will also correct the glossy shields.

Next month, come the shadow warriors/seekers and probably the artillery.

Until then,

Adrian's out.

  3. Absolutely beautiful! I love that you've not gone for an entirely uniform colour scheme, it really makes them seem more magical and individually unique. Plus the painting in general is just marvellous

  4. Your archers were one of the stand out units from January for me, and these are just as gorgeous! We actually painted the same Elf Champion this month, although I made mine a Wood Elf, so it is great to see what different end results you can get from the same model - yours is fantastic! The banner and varied heraldry across the unit makes them really stand out. First rate!
