Well, life has put a dent in my challenge already. I'm cashing in my mulligan on month 1.
Having lost my painted skullchucker in the Bermuda Triangle between my FLGS and the car, I was left with a new skullchucker to paint and few details to finish up with two days in hand.
Easy, right?
Haha! That is where work steps in. I am writing this to you on November 30th from work, where I am still stuck. Two hours left of painting, and no way to do it. Arsebiscuits.
At least next month's entry will be ready quick!!!!

Blake's Lord Gromson Dwarf Hero and Cannon - 237 points
Hello, well that is one quick month. Had a ton of real world stuff going on. I was able to get my Level 20 hero and the Cannon done. Please forgive the photo- just got a light box and I am trying to figure out how to use it best, and need more lights!
But for first month, 6 figures done.
Hero - Level 20 - Warhammer Armies 168 points (not counting magic items)
Cannon - and crew - 69 points
So whew, one month down, and no mulligan.
Hoping to work on Warriors or crossbowmen next month and do one of the big batch units. Totally amazed by everyone's efforts, I'll have to pick up my game, as my picture clearly shows....
I forgot to take any work in progress shots, but will try to remember next month!
Happy gaming and painting! - Blake

Ross' Let the shambles begin! (200pts)
My first month felt a little too easy. Mummies are 50 points each and very easy to paint. So, 4 models done in one sitting on 1st November doesn't feel like much of an achievement.
I run mummies as units of 20 in Kings of War, so I will be sneaking in another 8 models outside the challenge to fill this particular movement tray. I textured and painted the tray to make myself feel a little more effort-worthy.
Arjen's Teringleijer's Brothers and sisters; Unit of Beestmannen (205pts)
Teringleijer is a Level 5 Beastman Hero (65 points) and is accompanied by 13 of his brothersand sisters and personal standard bearer Zuurbakkus (13*10 plus 10=140) for a total of 205 points. They have 29 eyes among the 14 of them for an average of 2.07 eyes per person.

Ed's Border Princes - November 200 Pts
Hello everyone.
I've just about scraped home for the first month even if it is a mere four figures. This installment does include the army commander so I did want to make sure he in particular was given my full attention.
Lovejoy throws a Mulligan
As many of you are doubtless aware, in the 6th series of Lovejoy there was an episode entitled "Fruit of the Desert" in which out titular hero bought some antiques from a retired diplomat, only to discover that the antiques were in fact stolen.
Lovejoy, as I'm sure you recall, had borrowed the money to acquire them from a dangerous loan shark using his daughters flat as collateral, and therefore had to find a way out of the debt. There was also some difficulty arising from his trademark philandering too if I recall correctly, the filthy swine.

Richard's Dwarf Host- November 208 Pts
After the OldHammer in Da Jerz event I had 8 mostly painted Dwarfs, and have since found the time to do another 8 for a total of 16 for 13x16 = 208 points. The plan for this unit is that it will only consist of 1980s vintage Perrys sculpted Dwarfs, ultimately Norse, but a bit of a mixture of Norse, Adventurers and Imperials for now.
The starting point is a large batch of painted dwarfs that I acquired over 15 years back, painted using a thinned paint over white with some washes and some black lining, a lot of pen work. Nice in their day, but now chipped, and hopelessly desaturated, time for a refresh. Here's three more waiting their turn for a facelift.

Bens High Elf Warhost -- November 216 Pts
Hello everyone I have completed the November effort for my High Elf army. I managed to paint 16 figures this month, a significant portion of my rank and file troops knocked out in the first month. The grand total so far is 216 points.
8 Warrior Kindred with heavy armor and double handed weapons 13 points each for a total of 104 |
Rochie's: We're going to need a bigger cat...November 237 Pts
Hello!
I've managed to screech in with my first months installment, that being Warlord Ratbastard, a good chunk of clanrats, and a last minute rat pack with an old champion model as a packmaster:

Here they are Chaos Dwarf big hats ready to collect slaves for Hashut
Black Orc Unit x10 - 90 Points
Black Orc Unit x10 - 90 Points
Mustafa's Gothtor Hellsmelter (265pts)
When the war horns are blown, Gothtor Hellsmelter is first to attend their call.
Many years ago, in what seems like another lifetime, Gothtor had been a Dragon slayer, hell bent on meeting a violent and gory end locked in combat with a mighty fire breathing foe.
Nathan's Slann: 220 Pts
Well I've managed to meet the target for the first month at least. My approach to this has been a bit different than others as I haven't worked on whole units - what I have done is to do figures from different units so I wouldn't get bogged down painting similar figures. That is how I'm going to approach my painting each month and I'm reasonably confident it will work.

Jeff's Dark Elves - November 199 Pts
First units complete! 2 units for November; 12 crossbowmen with a standard for 169 points and
2 whelp masters for 30, for a challenge total of 199. I'd already
painted the chaos hounds; they weigh in at 92 points, bringing the total
I can put on the table to 291.

Yosef's Estalians/Araby (286pts)
Ok so here is the beginning of the army, as I did not have so much time to paint this month, mostly due to reorganize all my hobby space...( and they were a lot of miniatures...) I went for the arabic/estalian part of the army.
So first we have 6 estalian caballeros with standard, musician and a hero lvl 5. They are all equipped with just shield. This comes to 110 for the 5 guys, an extra 44 for musicians and 39 for a hero lvl 5 ( the sheik) so to a total of 193. For that unit i used the al muktar's riders. i enjoyed a lot painting the raiders with inks, but did not enjoyed or liked the final results on the horses, there are a bit of bland models...

Lopez's Rhervekh's Reavers
Landing on the shores of the Great Ocean from the frozen land of Naggaroth, Rhervekh leads his band of warriors. Rhervekh heralds the arrival of a marauding horde of sadistic Dark Elves. His task is to scout out the Old World for landing sites and villages to raid. He is merciless and cruel, an ideal Lieutenant for any Dark Elf General.

Lissanne's High Elven House of the Mole/White Lions
While everyone knows JRR Tolkien, few know this is the 100 year anniversary of the start of his writing the tales of Middle-earth, which he began in 1917 with the tale of the Fall of Gondolin. Within that story, there are 12 houses of Elven warriors- this month, a unit based on the House of the Mole.
Brennan's Snailcruncher’s Gobbos
Snailcrucher had always wanted to raise a regiment. One of those great and famous bands that wandered the World Edge Mountains, munching on stuntie steaks. Instead he ended up with this lot of gobbos… The lads always manage to drug up a few of the recruits and talk them into joining the fanatics. Also, as a mascot, which every goblin regiment should have, there is a troll that that follows the company. Mainly to eat the refuse from the camp.

Anthony's Minions of Chaos - first month, Morgoth's beastmen
Beastmen are vile parodies of humankind, creatures of chaos who hate humans above all other beings. They exist only to bring war, fire and destruction to the world in the name of the chaos gods. Morgoth is held in highest esteem as a shaman by the half-beasts. Some describe his visage as truly horrific, although in truth none can describe it with any certainty. Morgoth walks within the realms of man in tattered garbs covering a suit of bones. He whispers prophesies into the ears of his deformed followers, who bray in anticipation for the fall of mankind.
Millsy's Carroburg Handgunners and Swordsmen
Hi All,
So my first units and my first 200 points are complete I'm pleased to say. For your edification I present two x 12 man units, one of handgunners and one of swordsmen, totalling 220 points. I wanted to leave the greatswords until I was happy with the overall colour scheme and I'm quite comfortable with how these have turned out.
Both of these units are painted in the traditional Carroburg red with a proportion of black on most to break things up a little. Plain white feathers top things off.

Andrea’s Dryads, the Wood Elves army Special Branch
November’s quota: the Dryads unit (210 pts)
This is not the first time I painted this sculpts, as in my first Wood Elves army (1996-1999) the Dryads unit has a major role. Now, after 20 years, 6 new Dryads and a different way to paint. Back in the ’96 I used to paint these minis with a massive use of dry-brush; this time I opted for a different approach.
I started with a zenithal-like priming, basecoat entirely black and then a thin layer of white primer given by a single direction.
Clarence's (Quindia Studios) Slann Spawn Band - 228 points
Spawn Bands form the majority of warrior slann and are drawn from local jungle settlements or districts of a town. All Slann are obliged to perform a length of military duty in these bands. Those that distinguish themselves in battle may rise to one of the elite orders of Slann warriors...

Qrab's Chaos: Where's the Beef?
My first contribution to the Old World Army Challenge consists of one* model: the mighty Deathsteer weighing in at 190 points. There's a part of me that feels painting one model was cheating, but given my November work schedule and the fact I haven't painted a model in over two years, I needed to ease back into things. This particular model is Minotaur Lord Body 2 with Head 2 (Hooded). The details of this model are pretty interesting what with the blunt sword, bionic left leg, and flayed skin. Combined with the gimp mask style hood, this model could easily fit into a Slaaneshi warband.

Mike's Waagh Grogguzzler
Hey everybody!
My names Mike and I have a terrible dark secret...I never played Warhammer' Fantasy 3rd edition before 2012. During the halycon days of youth I was spending my precious treasure on miniatures and modules for AD&D, the closest. Sadly those miniatures were long lost as I'm sure there were citadel miniatures in those purchases. I played some of the board games including hours of Battlemasters with miniatures painted poorly with my mom's Apple Barrel craft paints.

Nigel's Army Of Undeath
I have been a degenerate hoarder of lead for many years. I have a problem. Really.
One range I have always loved is undead, starting with the Terror of the Lichemaster campaign pack and the lovely 'C' Series stuff.
This challenge has given me a kick up the arse to finally do an 'all lead' Undead army. I plan for this first 1000 points to be the first step towards an eventual 3000 pointer.

Chris’s Chaos Dwarfs
Hello all!
My name is Chris and I collect Dwarfs. I also collect Goblins. Not just old citadel ones either. I can’t help myself whenever I see a new range or Kickstarter for these little bastards. This challenge is a good opportunity for me to combine some of my recent purchases into one army.
For the chaos dwarfs I will mainly be using Clam’s Ewal Dvergar with some support from old school Miniatures and Darkling games.
Blake's Lord Gromson's Imperial Dwarfs - A tribute army to Wayne England
Most of you probably know who Wayne England was...and his army that appeared in White Dwarf 135 launched thousands of dwarf armies upon the world. I always wanted to paint up a unit like the longbeards from that issue. I covered the hardship I had finding Bombo (Or Axe 17 in the catalogues!) (two of which Wayne used - and I could never find).
Then Wayne and I had reconnected, and I had helped get some of his shirts here for Oldhammer USA, and art prints that he sent based on his new gobbo artwork. He was talking about getting them made into miniatures (Earl and the gobbos would have been incredible!). He was kind enough to send me some original artwork, and I was thinking of taking the new minis, painting them up and making a cool triptych with two pieces of art and a box with glass for the extra unit.
When we all heard the news that Wayne had passed, I wanted to do a tribute unit, painted like his WD 135 unit. I thought that could take place of the Earl minis that I had planned to use. He had confided in me that he had sold that unit off to someone at the studio (or at GW I believe, and I don't think he remembered who), and regretted it. When the Old World Army Challenge came up, it was perfect because after a year, thanks to Brian Kirkell, I had finally assembled the entire unit.

The Dwarfs of (not Orc)Lord
This challenge offers an interesting opportunity to rehabilitate a bunch of old models that have been festering in the leadpit for several years, and to close a couple of other holes in my Dwarven horde.
The list isn't a legal 3rd edition Army on its own, that would need a bunch of crossbows, and the clansmen should be (40) warriors, but consists of stuff that I want to get painted.
In use these would be supplemented by other units from my shelves, some of which may get their bases updated to match.

Arjen's Geitmans Plaagrotters from The Netherlands of the Chaos Wastes
My Warhammer interest was triggered again, a few years ago, when I bought a big lot of AD&D books which included several old Citadel models and a unit of Hobgoblins. As I had less time to play D&D because of small kids, collecting and painting minis was the perfect answer, games could be months in between but I could still "hobby" a bit every day after the kids were asleep. O&G where my first collection, but I snapped up every old chaos model in the process, chaos would be my "project 2".
Game-wise I found it hard to find other oldhammer players and didn't want to invest in the new warhammer rules. I game mastered 3 games of the Blood bath at Orcs Rift with my minis but that was it (awesome as it was)!. I did find a game that allowed me to pit my models agains other newhammer, historical, warmahordes and SAGA minis: Lion Rampant (later Dragon Rampant). That's when I started to paint some of my chaos minis:

Chris Lopez's Dark Elf Army
My Dark Elf army is the greatest force for evil in the southwestern Virginia region.
When I was invited to participate in this challenge I thought it would be a great way to finally finish up my Marauder Dark Elf army. I already have a force of about 1500 points painted up, but have been dragging my feet on getting the rest of the army finished up.

Firthy's Slann
As the title notes I'm painting up a slann army for the challenge. I got into GW stuff around 1988 when I was introduced to white dwarf by a school friend. It wasn't my first foray into gaming though as I had been interested in Tolkien since 1986 when I stumbled across The Hobbit in the school library. My focus in the late 80s/early 90s wasn't really on WFB though - whilst it interested me I simply couldn't afford enough figures to play it even if I could have painted them up. Having said that I did collect a small force of Bretonnians in the early 90s along with a smattering of slann. I did play a bit of 40K rogue trader and heaps of first edition epic (space marine) at the time which was great fun. After that I moved onto blood bowl 3rd edition. In the late 90s my interest in gaming disappeared for some time as I focused on other things like university, partying and women.

Kenneth's Ruerhl's warhost
Hello everyone, let me introduce myself.
I'm Kenneth Snelders, live near Antwerp in Belgium and hooked to Warhammer for almost 30 years now. 3th edition was in full motion back then and in my opinion that edition has miniatures with the most "character" (certainly compaired to 4th).
Dark Elves have been my first choice ever since, even through 5th and 6th were they were flimsy and way too expensive to field in battle. In 7th they were unbeatable and sometimes shoo-ed at at the local club. ;)
On the side I started collecting Brettonians, another army with flair, swung and panache ;) (probably my next project).

Qrab's Chaos Warband
Greetings from the west coast. My name is Rich, but I go by Qrab on a few of the forums I used to frequent (and on rec.games.miniatures.warhammer back in the days of usenet). I started playing Warhammer back in the late 1980s when 3rd edition was released. At that time I collected an Empire army. My local game store (Rigel Games and Books) stocked a good amount of Citadel Miniatures, but sadly Empire models were not well represented, so my army was never anything more than a hodgepodge of human models. I continued collecting models and playing intermittently through the days of Herohammer (4th and 5th editions), but I can’t say I really enjoyed those games. Tired of having my Empire destroyed in nearly every game, I expand my model collection to include Chaos and Undead (with Mummies!) armies. My interest in Warhammer was rekindled with the release of 6th edition and continued through to 7th edition. Unfortunately, that span of time coincided with 13 years of work related exile in the Mojave Desert (archaeologists gotta go where the jobs are!), which meant I only got a few games in a year. I played two or three games of 8th edition, but didn’t find it very inspiring.
