DONE!!
Yeah!! Take that Santa! And work! And family obligations! And EXCUSES!!
My shit is painted. I really really really learned to hate Bob Naismith Dark Elves this month. I can't wait to go back to my pile of Marauder Dark Elves.

Jeff's mulligan, or how December has kicked my ass
Well it is with a sad face that I must take my Mulligan for December. It's been a bitchy month. So lets just run down the list real quick so we can get back to the people who painted stuff
-New job and I'm the low guy on the totem pole.
-Daughter with Flu
-Other Daughter with a cold
-Wife with a cold (So far I've dodged this bullet)
-Mother-in-law in Hospital for a week, now in Rehab
-Father-in-law almost choking to death and needed Heimlich Maneuver at Christmas dinner. Sister-in-law beat me to him by a second so she did it. And she has medical training which is a plus.
I think that sums it up nicely. Now show me your painted figures so I can live vicariously through them. One day I may game again....one day.

Mike's Waagh Grogguzzler (199pts)
Well December is all but over and I finished the actual painting part with a week to spare, but with all the holiday festivities and what not the post waited until the last day. For December I was excited to be able to not only do some of my favorite models, but also a small unit that would make it easier with the hectic holiday schedule, Trolls!
I have been wanting to own the C20 trolls for awhile and when I signed up for this challenge I quickly knew I wanted to do them and snagged the marsh and hill trolls for a reasonable price with some marauder trolls. Sadly the cave and warrior troll eluded me for this challenge, but someday I will have them. For such a small unit I had a lot of trouble finding colors I liked for each. The hill troll was an easy decision to go with browns and flesh tones, but the stone troll took some work before I got the color I was happy with. That left the marsh troll as the problem child of the bunch. It was painted and stripped with three color schemes before I was happy enough with it's accidental homage to Street Fighter II's Blanka.

Blake's Mulligan time - So tired of medical tests, doctors and even cute nurses......
Well, this is a real drag. Unfortunately I have spent more time at the doctors office and hospital than I have painting: in like a 60 to 1 ratio this month. I'm tired of tests, to be honest. I did manage to get base paint on a whole unit of crossbows and a whole unit of warriors, but they are not nearly completed. should have concentrated on one unit and I probably could have (Maybe?) made it. But right now in too much pain and bother to get em done.
Kenneth's Ruerhl's warhost 3 (229 points)
For more than 30 days Ruerhl waited until his scouts returned. During these days he studied the maps of the shorelines, looking for landing areas and easy prey. Those victims would never know what hit them and it would prove a good time to show how cruel he could be. Maybe he could find him some personal slaves too. Slaves are always good to improve your standing at the court of the Witchking.
Two days later a scout returned bringing with him a sorceror named Kurgot. "My Lord, word has gotten to me that you were in need of magical powers" Kurgot said. "Look no further and accept my aid. The dark arts that I possess are at your service".
"Prove that your words are true" demanded Ruerhl.
With a short incantation and a quick flick of his fingers Kurnot threw a lightning bolt from his hand, hitting and pulvirizing a nearby tree.
"Excellent. Join me and let's talk" asked Ruerhl. Knowing that a mighty sorceror is a fantastic ally. Better not upset him too soon.

Ross' March of the deadites (312pts)
From one extreme to the other, as they say. Last month I painted 4 mummies. This month I painted 24 skeletons. That's quite a leap, but one worthy of Deadcember.
I chose to paint a load of skeletons to balance out my average. The reason I went for 24 rather than 20 is to fill the 12-slot movement trays I use for Kings of War and I didn't fancy leaving 4 models hanging over.
24 skeletons with light armour and spears are 312 points in 3rd edition, 264 in 4th. I'm not counting unit command.
This brings my total up to 632 points for 3rd edition or 444 for 4th.
Next month (January), I am going to add shields to the unit, 3 Carrion and 5 Cavalry.

Ben's High Elf Warhost (219pts)
December has been a bit of a chore for my portion of the army challenge. Twelve more rank and file figures added to the sixteen from November gives me a grand total of 28 figures painted so far. Not too shabby considering how my pace is usually closer to 28 figures a year. Without further delay here are some pics and point values:
The guy with the falcon in a Lvl 5 hero with heavy armor and a halberd(53 points). The standard, musician and champion total 56 points at 14 each plus the music bump. I haven't counted points for the standard because I haven't finished it. I often sit on the couch doing nothing instead of painting little men...

Rochie's Ho Ho Holy shit!! A rat ogre!!: 226 pts
Hello and seasons greetings folks, hope everyone has had and is having a cracking time doing whatever it is you're doing!
So here we are in the second month of the challenge, and given the time of year I decided to play it safe this month and just get a few high value models done to stop me getting bogged down. So without further ado, I present to you this month's installment!
Mustafa's And verily did they go forth and mulligan....
For 30 days and 30 nights he did wonder in search of the Lord, yet the Lord’s countenance did not shine upon him.
On the 7th hour, the Lord saw fit to bless him with a message, and that message was.....
“Son, take a mulligan”.
Having a house full of visiting family has been great fun, but has left no time for painting. I shall be taking my mulligan now.
Heap your scorn upon me!

SeanS - 10 Foot Knights, 15 Peasants, 1 Mounted Knight - 208 points
Hi All,
I'll spare you all the angst. Let us never mention the debacle of Shieldgate 2017 ever again.
I am pleased to present to you, with a day and a half to spare even, 9 foot knights including standard bearer (90) + Baron (33), 15 Feudal Levy with Bows (60), and one Noblesse D'Epee (25) for a grand total of 208 points.

Arjen's Plaagrotter's Marauders: Peace and Love and Plague (234pts)
For December I had the choice of an easy 200+ points or a Mulligan, with my Son's birthday preparations and being away for the holidays and all. Luckily my selection contained a unit of 6 Chaos Marauders, that should be doable in a few stolen hours, right?
It was barely, luckily we decided my mother in-law needed a break from having the whole family over for the time spanning Christmas and New Year so we went home in between, giving me a couple of evenings to paint these bastards:

Andrea’s Wood Elves core and elite units: Glade Guards and three Wardancers (198pts)
Hi to all,
Here we are with December entry of the Wood Elves hunting party: the whole Glade Guards unit, including champion and standard bearer, and the first three Wardancers (a total of 198 pts).
Wood Elves Glade Guards with spear are the first miniatures I ever painted, back in 90s: among the 10 in the unit, four are the very same minis from that past!
Unlike Glade Guards of late 90s (those across the 4th and 5th edition), these do not have a truly military uniform. After all they were originally warriors of kinbands, individuals from elven families sent to war wearing familiar colors. Therefore, I choose to give them a various shape with everyone using different combination of colors. I just kept the same color palette to give a kind of unit’s uniformity. The champion is the only one wearing an armour and a shield, somehow indicating he is the only one life-long committed to war. Painting this unit is a dream coming true, as I always wished to have it in my army, and I am happy with the results!

Iannick's Ukag's Mercenaries and Graaz the Savage (182pts)
So my first month of the challenge was a busy one, what with a 20 figures unit plus a Doom Diver, so I figured I needed maybe a slightly less busy month.
My December entry is pure Oldhammer, with a trio of maybe the most iconic figures ever produced by Citadel Miniatures, the famous Jes Goodwin's Ogres mercenaries.

Yosef's Borgio on a Bear and some gunners (208 points)
So this month was a bit hectic and most of the time i had to paint was on tree days, but i arrived to finish more than expected.
I did a nice 34 mans me-72 unit as shown here, it was quite easy, but even if it's not part of the army list i think it fits nicely as the nemesis of this mercenaries, as the border princes is full of necromancers fleeing prosecution that find refugee on the northern borrows.

Clarence's (Quindia Studios) Slann Wizard - 199 points
Dread Lord
Biddliplop, Watcher of Rain and Master of Deadly Wind, absently thrummed
fat fingers on his warty knee. The dry skins stumbled down the trail
below, bald panic plain on their faces. He supposed it was plain on
their faces anyway... he always had trouble recognizing emotions on
their tiny features. They had been in the process of looting treasures
from the sacred tombs of the Jade Reaches when his warriors set upon
them. Scattered and encumbered with gold, they proved no match for his
ambushing army. The survivors were unaware that the Cold Ones in pursuit
were herding them toward a narrow valley where his elite Eagle Warriors
stood arrayed. Perhaps he would order his litter forward and unleash
his magic on the thieves once the trap is sprung...
Brennan's Bilebreffs Line Breakers (231pts)
Snailbreff's lads had camped by the track that led to the camp of the growing hoard. One of the lads, Bill, was watching sentry and called out...
"Oi Snaily-sir, I fink we gots a new regiment comin' in an its a good un'! It's Rugland's!."
"Na, it's not dem. It's just Bilebreff's lads." Snailbreff retorted.
"Ya sure sir? They gots lots cans and and stuff..."
"Ya, ya, we wuz told at the meetin' o' capins. New lads, but they just wants ta look nasty like Ruglands, but they's in a ooniform and, er well, they aven't see as much action as Rugland and 'is lads."
"So we couldn't get Rugland's eigh, Boss?" - a large whacking sound was all that came as a reply and the sentry had to be revived with some suspicious spore by one of the other troopers.
This month I add Bilebreff's Line Breakers to the hoard! It's a box of Rugland's with a few other lads added into make it the over the 200 point and twenty model mark. My favorite part was doing the darker armor. I have painted lots of elves and dwarves and they can get pretty shiny....
Qrab's Chaos: A Handful of Marauders (205pts)
This month I quintupled the number of models painted compared to last month. Taken at face value that seems pretty impressive, but what it really means is that I painted five models. These particular models constitute the back rank of my 10 strong unit of Marauders* with two-handed weapons. With each model costing 41 points, this gives me a grand total of 205 points for December.
Several of the models I painted this month were given names when they were first released 30-odd years ago. And even though my collection of Citadel Journals & Compendiums is packed away in storage, thanks to the fantastic Stuff of Legends website, I was able to find those names.
First up is a group shot. As with the unit I painted two years ago, the armor on these figures was also painted with a black and steel color scheme. This time, however, I reversed the position of the black armor pieces. There's a fair amount of fur on these guys as well, and together with the armor I think they're a little too dark. Looking at the photos, I need to add some colors to the bases to create more contrast and differentiate the earth from the fur boots.

Jeff's Dark Elves for December (389 Points)
I deliberately set myself up with an easy December, only 3 models...plenty of time for the holidays, and the week I knew would be crazy at work. First up is my general, representing the more warlike (Khorne/Khaine) faction in my Dark Elf force. He's Level 15 hero, with heavy armor, shield and a barded warhorse - 152 points.

Thomas's High Elves: Pansy's Reavers Dec 270pts
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! For my December entry I chose my unit of High Elf Reavers to break up the monotony of the infantry.
With the points crunch I wasn't able to give this unit a champion, but being the elite unit in the army, I figured they would be able to handle themselves accordingly with out any added leadership. I did give them bows though for added tacticoolness.
Well enough of my blathering on about points let's see the minis!

Millsy's Carroburg Greatswords (234 points)
G'day Folks,
Having painted a couple of 12 figure units to test my Carroburg colour scheme I felt ready to tackle the real stars of my show... the Greatswords! Glorious blood red uniforms, massive swords and even bigger plumes on hats. Woohoo!
The unit is composed of a combination the three variants of the 1997 catalogue Imperial Great Sword miniatures, sculpted by Michael and Alan Perry when they were (IMHO) at the very peak of their GW sculpting powers. Each of the three poses is represented in roughly equal amounts and I have varied the colour scheme for each and every figure to add individuality.
Clan of the Blue Serpent (Anthony B) (200pts)
Many turn to chaos as an easy road to power. Few travel along that road very far, for the perils of insanity, mutation or death in the name of their god often claim their lives before long. Meanwhile the chaos gods laugh at the weakness of man and the inevitability of his demise. The Clan of the Blue Serpent hail from the depths of the Chaos Wastes. They are diverse in heritage, but are united by their worship of one of the lesser chaos deities - the Serpent god. Myth has it that the Great Blue Serpent has laid dormant beneath the surface of the earth since the beginning of time. It will only awaken when sufficient sacrifices have been made in the name of death and destruction, and at such a time it will engulf and consume the world in its entirety. The Clan members now number in their thousands, and have made it their life's sacred mission to slay in the name of their deity. There can be no greater glory than dying in the name of their almighty god before the world is consumed at the end of time.

Ratwig's Dark Elf Crossbows for December (251pts)
My entry for December: I Hee Ya’s Company of Crossbows.
Eleven Crossbows with a level 10 champion. 251 points total.
Equipment: Hand weapon, crossbow, light armor, Musician. Level 10 hero has a two handed weapon. I will be giving him some type of magic missile to help take out harder targets and provide precision fire support.
I have half of my crossbow requirement completed with this unit. The crossbows were modified with copper wire strings. The musician was converted with a horn that I took from some parts I had on hand. Not much to say on this unit build except I will be using flat black primer on them from now on.

Lissanne's High Elf House of the Swallow/Bolt Throwers (200pts)
(Or the Early Bird misses the Mulligan..)
"Now the folk of the Swallow bore a fan of feathers on their helms, and they were arraed in white and dark blue and in purple and black and showed an arrowhead on their shields. Their lord was Duilin, swiftest of all men to run and leap and surest of archers at a mark"

November done!
Just a quick post to congratulate every challengers on a fantastic start to the Challenge. I'll be honest; I thought we'd lose a few challengers at the deadline, but incredibly EVERYONE participated, and a very high rate of actual painted submissions.
AND the level quality of submissions has been incredible.
You guys are great, I hope you poured yourself a drink, tapped yourself on the back, told your wife how freakin' awesome you are, and felt that special sense of achievement at looking at that completed unit only fellow miniature painters can understand.
So we move on to December, keep the motivation juices flowing, and we expect the same high quality submissions in 29 days!
Keep painting,

Iannick's Noraz Stickblast regiment and a green terror from above (199pts)
So I came close to missing the dealine! The shame of not finishing, me the Challenge Founder? Let's just say my pride made me work overtime the last few days!
So the first part of my November entry is a regiment of 19 Forest Goblin archers, led by Noraz Stickblast, a Goblin Big Boss.
I must admit painting these fellows in a month has been a challenge; first because work has been very busy, and also because I didn't expect these guys to take that long! I mean, they're small, so they should paint faster, right? WRONG. I never noticed the insane amount of details goblin master Kev Adams had sculpted on these little fellow. Skulls, spiders, ear rings, bones, feathers, etc. He even sculpted them nails! These are not your typical clad in black night goblins. And at a mere 2.5 pts each, it probably makes them the worst deal in Warhammer history when it comes to bang for your painting time!
Blue's First 200pts...errr...195 actually..
Whew...
Here I am...Some how I made it this far. Things are not polished to my normal standard on a few things...particularly with bases and the lack of shields. Honestly I haven't decided what to do for shields for this force yet...and that decision has me putting off that task till a later date at the moment.
...I will also not mount the riders until they are all painted...that will make for an additional cool unveiling later...
...but I'm calling these done.
I'd love to wax nostalgic about how great these are...etc...etc...but It'll be midnight before I know it so I better just get this done so I can go to bed!
Point Tally:

Fred's month one....
Month One: Great Expectations
Our first month in my plan was to give Magnus his first unit of Kislevite cavalry. I had managed to assemble all the equestrian models and block in the base colors. In addition I managed to block in the base winged back banners, however, both the holidays and my capacity to put too much on my proverbial plate conspired to put me on my back feet this month.
Vying for both bench time and space has been an Eldar host from the 40th millennium (this is another group build project that should be winding down by Xmas).

Jeff Allen's A Chaos Horde of two - November (394pts)
The start of this challenge couldn't have come at worse time. I took a new job. The new job was in the process of moving to a new building. Being in IT I had to work weekends to get things up and running. But not all was lost.
My wife had a 5 day business trip to Las Vegas. Five glorious days! Giving me lots and lots of free time to finish....then my kids gave me a Cold. That pretty much wiped out the the 5 days.
So on the morning of Nov 30th, here was my progress so far.
Chris’s Chaos Dwarfs of Nurgle - November (202pts)
I decided to start off with the the mandatory unit of Chaos Dwarf warriors. I’m pretty happy with how these guys turned out and plan on increasing the unit to 20 in December.
November total 202 pts
Chaos Dwarf champion 48 pts
9 Chaos Dwarf warriors including standard and musician 154 pts

During this first month I have painted 209 points:
2 x Squig Hoppers..........50pts
1 x Master Shaman.......159pts
It has been a poor month when it comes to painting, so I'll have to work harder next December.

They are done except for varnish and then the flock and static grass on the base.

Dave's Wintery War Hydra (225 pts)
To warm up for this challenge, I decided to start with just a single model, which left me with two choices—do I kick things off by painting the general right away (the dreaded Vakath alone is worth nearly 200 points, and I could easily throw in a scout to round it up), or should I get underway with the War Hydra (worth 225 points)? I'm a firm believer that the general should be the nicest looking model in your army, and knowing full well that I am a bit rusty in the painting department after years of neglect, I decided to go for the War Hydra instead. Besides, that would be simple, right? It's all scales and claws, after all. Well, it was quite a learning process nevertheless!
The fearsome War Hydra |
Kenneth's Ruerhl's Warhost 2 (252 points)
So, 30 days to paint 7 models? Plenty of time ..... Ha!!! And then reality kicks in. I even warned you about being a slow painter :) And to make things even worse I found out the first days that color after color was dried up, so I had to get new ones. But it did work out and I managed to get things done before the deadline passed.
The general one cold one has a point value of 174 and the 6 scouts cost 78 points for a total of 252 points. Which is a bit above the 200 points limit but I'm all for painting units in one go.
I'm not really happy about the red tone on the clothes. I wanted it to be a little more purple-ish but the new pot of paint did not arrive yet at my house. You might notice the glossy varnish too. That's armypainter shade. I know, some of you don't like it, but it helps me to give some shading and to protect it during play.

Out of the depths of The Drak Wald Forest is Rancidhoof, Pestigor champion, his right hand man Verdigristle and 5 more creeps. The champion with light armor and shield is 113 pts. The Marauder is 39. The rank and file with light armor and shields are 65. 207 total
