Final post for OWAC VIII - the army shot

 Apologies for the brief post but life is proving interesting at the moment, especially with medical issues, luckily not mine or my immediate family, but friends. Any way on with the show.

Month one Asgard goblins - the intention.

 First month - ten goblins.

Second month - more Asgard goblins

 

Third month - Leaders

Plus a little bonus - Citadel Wyvern 

 

Month five - A change of plan, Citadel goblins

 Month six - more goblins

 Final month -  even more goblins 

Plus a chariot

And a few orcs just to be sure.

Paul D's June contribution - More goblins and their hangers-on ( 518.5 points)

By the 14th I'd daubed paint over this little lot.

 

This concludes the painting of most of my unpainted goblin collection from the time 3rd edition WFB came out and the pictures of the battle which is being recreated at BOYL this year.

 

I'm now off to the attic to see, if, I've anything else that I can splosh a touch of colour over, from the pictures shown. Apparently, chariots are also required, so here we have the Goblin Warlord's chariot, designed by Nick Lund for 66 points.

 To draw this months efforts to a conclusion I also dabed a little bit of colour over a few orc arra boys for 97.5 points.

 I know, I started this years challenge doing one thing which morphed into somthing else halfway through, but looking back I found the experience forfilling.

Paul D's April contribution, not what was planned, but a 125 point just the same

April got off to a slow and steady start, with me initially splashing a base colour over a few Asgard figures.

 Then a friend stopped over on his way to Salute, during his stay he asked if I was able to assist in his quest to reproduce the battle shown in the third edition rule book. To do this he'd just want a selection of Nick Lund's Black Orcs, a few C Series Trolls, C12 Goblins, Black Mountain Boys, C22 Chaos Hounds, a few Monitaurs and a couple of Wizards and following a brief discussion to identify exactly what he wanted we were able to establish what I could provide.

Which then led to a visit to the attic, to ensure what would be available for the planned encounter at this year's BOYL Sure enough, I have enough original lead to provide for most of the figures, but closer inspection found that most of my painted goblins were not C12s, but original C series. Lucky enough I have enough unpainted goblins to make up the short fall, all I have to do is paint them! Ah, and when was this going to happen, certainly not between the end of OWAC and BOYL. So, there's been a change of plan, I'm no longer painting Asgard goblins, but GW goblins, so I set to my task, early slotta goblins and painted up the first batch.  

Now all I needed are a few shields and I 've met this month required number (ten figures) without too much of a panic, so, I went looking for shields and found, I don't have any to hand! Ebay to the rescue, not quite, and certainly not in time to meet the dead line of the end of the month. OK, I can do this, I set-to painting figures with shield and preparing others ready for painting.

Thanks to the Easter break I managed to spread a bit of colour over twentyfour figures, which means I've met the target for OWAC, when I've added their basing material and varnished them, and once I find some suitable shield will be able to finish the C12s. Thus, here I am, on The last weekend of the month with a completed unit of goblins.

Paul D's March efforts - Monsters and leaders , 648 points

 Wyverns and Leaders

To be honest this switch to monsters is me taking my foot off the pedal, I find painting big things easy and leaders eat up the points count, so mulligan played. 

So lets show you what I did of March - built the monster, adding missing details and undercoating.

Please note the varnishing didn't go quite according to plan, if you look carefully at the wings you'll notice a crinkled effect to the wings, paricularly noticeable towards the ends, I'm putting this down to the type of varnish I used and the damp conditions I used it in. I'm not unhappy with the look as it gives the wings more texture, in my opinion.

Finally the leaders

 

A collection of three lvl1 shamen, three lvl 2 shamen, a lvl 5 warboss and a lvl10 chieftain provides me with a significant points boost without adding a load of armour and weapons - 648 points, enjoy.

 In my book there's nothing quite as useless in the oldhammer fantasy as a goblin who doesn't carry a bow, unless they're in large numbers and carrying something else they can throw at their foes, usually at long range at their backs or flanks, to give then the opportunity to run away. So, here's a few more goblin archers for your amusement. 

 Since my previous post, I've carried out a little more reseach into Asgard Miniatures and their designers - Apparently Jes Goodwin graced his talents over these evil little fellows, thus, I'm very pleased to express my appreciation of such a skilled chap. 

As the purple skin tones are so appreciated by those who choose to comment on my initail post I've continued with this contribution in the same manner.

 As usual when painting orcs and goblins I provide a fairly heavy Citadel sepia wash over the figures to provide them with a suitable covering of grot.

 This big bird recently came out of the bath, given that this has been on my wanted list for quite sometime it might just jump to the front of the painting queue, following the addition of a couple of horns.
