PaulD's final presentation of what I daubed paint over this Spring for the Old World army Challenge

Here's a few pictures of my meager efforts of applying paint to a few miniatures as part of the Old World Army Challenge to provide me with additions to my amazonian army, which didn't get off to particularly good start, as I was originally painting lizardmen!

Paul D's wild-card with a few odds and sods, making up the numbers for 1287points

Hard to believe that during month one I was worried about making the points target. Then I realised - participants were painting more than the minimum per month and others said I could carry stuff over, if, I didn't get them finished. Hence, here a few 'C' series Amazons which came out of their Dettol bath at the beginning of May, but I couldn't finish, as I didn't have any bases for them to join their sisters.

As mentioned on the facebook page, I ordered a few more cat-riders via ebay to make up their numbers, only to be told they wouldn't arrive  until the end of June. So, I painted up those I had and moved on to something else.

And as soon as their finished, the others turn up early!

But, after I started painting Elves, from Foundry and other manufacturers, typical.

So here's the elf contingent, which will be my entry for this final month, having just received their first coat of varnish.

Next up, the new cat riders have a dab of paint

I've a few days to paint a few more figures, but I really need to start putting my 'new' stuff together for BOYL 2021, so I'm going to quit while I'm ahead, with a little hors d'oeuvre for my ogre cooks! Enjoy.

One powersword swinging drug induced nutter - two hundred and sixty six points.

One guardwoman at nineteen points

Four tribeswomen at seven points each - twenty eight points.

Paul D/ Golgfag1's April's contingent - Heroes and Wizards (1186 points)

March found me with plenty of time on my hands to plough on with my efforts to give Mr Beales a run for his money, all due to Covid19, inclement weather and having to take holiday entitlement - found me completing my initial intentions, thus I posted a good week in advance of the end of the month.  Following the March post and a little light hearted banter between myself and Mr Beale, I decided rather than take a break over April, I'd push on with the next contingent of wizards and Heroes and then go off and do something else. 

 First up, a Colossal Lord lord from Grenadier  Miniatures  - Cassandra https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~tpope/sol/grenadier/images/3304.jpg 

 I wasn't sure on the colour schemce so plumbed for classic Wonder woman, be it Linda Carter or Gal Gadot - red, white and blue, where I could, with bronze armour (vambrace and pauldrons) and a chainlink hauberk. I apologies now - the miniature is from a time when attitudes were different, but I'm not a revisionist and accept it for what it is.

Quite happy with the way she turned out, will be using her as a giantess for a steady two hundred points.

Next up a few low level wizards, Original Citadel C series Sisterhood novices/Initates, classing these as Warhammer third edition, level fives' at sixty points each - for three hundred points.

Next up a Sisterhood Mage, I'll class her as a level fifteen wizard for one hundred and fifty five points.

The mother Samatha figure's rather nice, so I'll run for another level fifteen wizard for another one hundred and fifty five points.

 I've also dabbed a little paint over four nobles, I don't have enough of these to form a regiment so will be using them as champions for my other units at thirty points each, giving me another hundred and twenty points.

Last, but by no means least, the Goddess Rigg, now I'll be honest I consider this figure the worst of the C series Amazonian figures and thus I'm not inclined to use it as such, so am simply going to class it as a female ogre champion, for a minimal two and fifty six points (I intend to expand this idea latter in the challenge, with a contingent of female ogres!).

Finally a group shot all varnished and based to match the previous months contingents.

More troops this month, but this time I'm actually painting 'C30' series Amazonians from back in the day, originally designed by the Perry twins, produced as a foil to the Slann of Lustria. The first time they were promoted by Citdel/ Games Workshop was in the scenario Rigg's Shrine in the second Citadel Compendium, written by Richard Helliwell.

 

So, first up a few spear and bow armed bodyguard, will be playing the part of elite +2, from third edition, giving me sixteen figures at nineteen points each - three hundred and four points.

I'm also going to add a few specialists from other manutacturers as I don't really have that many C series figures and my force needs a little something to provide a little bit of punch - Chariots, via Ral partha, the originls are pulled by human slaves, great for the story, but not much good on the tabletop.

So, I switched them for sabre-toothed tigers from Grenadier, which means they move slightly quicker and have a lot more bite when entering into combat. Two chariots with basic crew one hundred and ninety eight points each - three hundred and ninety six points.

My spare time is pretty much taken up with painting for this challenge at the moment, as the early evenings are still fairly dark, and the weather isn't conducive to spending any significant time in the garden. So, I'm going to push on with a second batch of infantry, a mixed bag of C series tribes women, berserkers and Koka-kalim weilding bows, daggers, swords, bolts-pistols and power swords.

This little lot weigh in at a mighty nine hundred and ninety three points, the majority of which is the three powerswords and bolt pistol.

Next up - Pygmie skimishers, weilding either bows or short spears/javelins adding another thirty two points, I've not included for the standard witch doctor or champion.

Whilst trawling E-bay, I dropped upon this dragon (a tiny little thing, not sure what it's from?), which I thought would add a little something to this months mix, I'll be honest attaching the wings was a complete pain, but the simply paint job was done in an evening, so this adds another two hundred and fifty points to this months total.

Before anybody asks how did I manage to dab paint on this little lot in a couple of weeks - Annual leave, as I loose all of any I don't take, on the first April. Recently found this on E-bay, advertised as a living statue, thought it'd would make a nice addition to my growing collection, following on with the Rigg's Shrine - I'm of the opinion that this would make a better avatar for the scenario, than the original model. I've used magnets to make the parts inter-changable from a statue on the plinth to avatar for a thousand points!

 As the end of the month draws ever closer, dabed a bit more paint behind the ears of a few more Pilgrims of various manufacture and ages which shows how attitudes to figure design and nakedness as changed! All I have to do now is base & varnish. I've pointed up this last batch as there's a selection of heroes and magic users mixed in, at a hundred and seventy five points.

This months all based, varnished and ready to join their sisters!

I'm taking next month off, not because I want a break from painting, but I want to paint and post something else, on the Oldhammer Forum. Hope you enjoyed the journey and see you again in May.
