Ready - Ben's D’s Skellibobs - Sc-April

Long time no see, fellow nerds. I hope March and April have treated you well. The last few months were a little rough on my end with a big con and a big sick, but having used my first mulligan in three years, I took some much needed rest so that I could come back with the good stuff.

The good stuff being, of course, more gnomes.

Kicking the double-month haul off we have my army’s general, a big old vampire lord on a dragon. I had been waiting years to paint up this pond dragon, having doubted myself and my designs for its destiny years ago, so putting a brush to it this year felt particularly satisfying. In keeping with the skellibobs, my focus was to use as many magical colors as I could, hence the vibrancy of the dragon with its apple green complexion.

The vampire himself was a bit tougher, since his costuming didn’t communicate his station, and I didn’t have room under the beard to do much more detailing. I had hoped that the cape would be majestic enough to convey his dark grandeur, and didn’t want to mix the pallor of his flesh with a crisp white shirt, so I will have ask narrative to carry that weight (until I pick a better shirt color anyhow.)

At this time, I feel as though this vampire has only recently been disinterred, and is perhaps a little confused as to why he’s waging war. Don’t get me wrong, he’s not displeased to be doing so, but he’d rather not be doing it in his pajamas if given the choice, (he wears his funerary dress to sleep, which is kinda cute in a depressing way.) At least the nice necromancer who freed him from the crypt gave him a beautiful cape, a dignified hat, and a spectacular dragon (he’s a chalice of blood half full kind of vampire,) so all in all, things could be worse.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

I know my original list didn’t call for sheep, but I found some sheep, and now my army has sheep in it.

They’re a little off though, as are their minders (who can be run as a standard bearer and musician respectively.)

Oh, they’re dead…

Because each of the other gnome armies have their pets, Alpine gnomes with their geese and Chaos gnomes with their dogs and donkeys, I felt that the undead should have some critters too. With that said, do you know how hard it is to find FIFTEEN SHEEP?

I found it pretty hard, so that’s why there’s twelve of them and three ghost gnomes hanging out with them. I have this memory of a ghostly goblin army that was printed in White Dwarf when I was a kid, and the ghost paint jobs here are inspired by that article. They kinda look like cheese I don’t want to eat, and since I can’t for the life of me find my original source, I think the next ghosts I paint will be based on the classic blue Spirit Hosts of yore.

Lastly, we have Gneil the Gnecromancer, who has been delving into forbidden magicks (again) and will undoubtably be a menace to his former Alpine allies, considering who and what he’s consorting with. 

Friends don’t let friends resurrect BBEGs.

For a two-month haul, that’s not too shabby. Here are the points for the period.

Since the zombie sheep aren’t on the original list anyhow, and the necromancers will need things to summon, I don’t feel the need to tally the points. If they wind up in the army I can put their hq pieces in the front, and if they end up being summoned, I can use them in the back as bodies to flesh out the sheep squad. Byron's Pirate Eldar - mulligan post (zero points)

 Ooof. After four complete OWACs I must take my first mulligan without a single complete model to show for it. 

I'll share the progress I made up until we had to start packing and moving to another house around mid-month. You can't do everything.

First is my cargo drone. This is a heavily converted wraithlord. The thighs and upper arms have been swapped to make him shorter and with a longer reach. His left hand has been replaced with a stand from an eldar weapon platform; I thought it looked more mechanical and clamp/forklift adjacent than the hand. His torso is backwards and leaned forward with a plastic spoon glued on as a sort of dump truck/ bed to store things as he moves about. To make the spoon look more eldar I added some jetbike and weapon platform bits to it. The final touches were green stuff tubes between the joints - this works both as an eldar motif (they have these tubes on their guns) but also as a structural stupport. Basically, it's a long external pin to add to the internal pinning between the joints. 

I followed the color scheme for the rest of the army, except I added a lot of scuffing. This was achieved with a sponging of dark brown and then a stippling of bright silver. It's my first attempt at a battered look and I think it looks pretty good. Maybe I over did it a little. 

Importantly, for the mulligan, his basing is not complete. 

I have yet to use it in a game with my kids. But I am thinking I would start with Wraithlord stats and then downgrade them and remove the swords and guns to reflect his more menial status. 

Next, pics of my stevedores. This pic captures the vibe of most of them, but it was taken before I packed them away for the move. I was able to finish the eldar cargo doodads on their bases too, but just didn't finish the bases. The stevedores are all blood bowl elves. I put doodads in the hands of the catchers/receivers to make it look like they were moving cargo around. 

One of the bloodbowl minis has a whip. This was taken from a 3rd ed Dark Eldar Syberite. I am using him as an Exodite beastmaster - that way I can use my wood elf beasts in Fantasy and 40k. 

Progress on the hover truck has been slow. 

I will aim to finish all of these minis and then some for the next month. 

I am thinking another trash-made tank, a jeb bike gang, or some close combat guys with dual pistols. 

On a less dour note, I attended an Oldhammer convention in Portland in early May and got to use my Pirates in some games.

Pokrzyw's Sisters of Battle - Month 5 - Mulligan

This is my first Mulligan in three challenges that I participate - live was catching me.

I planned to spend whole May in my summer house far away from regular flat. Plan was ambitious - Arch-confessor Redemptor Kyrinov with two inquisitors each with its own retinue of five hanchmen.

Models was stripped, based prepared and all was preshaded.

And after it I have to return for three days to Wroclaw. I left paints in summer house. Unfortunately I was able to return back over three weeks later due to family responsibilities. 

Finally I finish May without one ready miniature..

In next month I planned to complete inquistorial gang plus HQ.

Nicolas' Daemon Legion of Khorne - Month 3 - Mulligan

 March - Chasing my tail like a dog

Sadly I have to mulligan my month of March... Too much overtime and home improvements... so when I realized I was cooked, I decided to go all in to finish the infamous Chaos Hounds of Slaanesh unit that got me out on OWAC 6.  It feels nice to finaly get a sence of closure on this project! The original idea was to have hounds that would both match my Slaanesh and Tzeentch army, I belive I'm spot on!

I only had to touch up highlights and do the basing. But the effort needed to get variety out of the 3 Dark Eldar Warp Hounds was pretty intense back than and I'm really glad I went trought it.

Special love to my "demogorgon" from Stranger Things made out of a tyranid spore mine.

Nathan’s mulligan month

I had to take my mulligan in February as I didn’t get my leaders finished. So why would I have anything to post you ask? Well I thought I would share with you good people some pics of khorne figures I painted up over the last few years that my current work will join. Here they are:

 Everything was going to schedule and then it wasn't. Family holiday into a Corona and I'm out of action. So a mulligan for me this month. Good head start on next month though.

PaulM - Mórr's Wild Hunt - Mulligan

Well, this is all starting to become rather familiar isn't it? Another month whereby I moan about not having enough time and only managing to finish by the skin of my teeth...except this month my teeth are, eh, skinned...

March has been a bit of a drag; due to work, and a family holiday, the paintbrushes didn't get picked up until the 22nd, a full three-quarters of the way through the month! With me promptly getting sick 6 days later. So the fact that I finished my tribute and got 99% of the way there with 5 Glade Riders is still something I'm quite proud of if I'm honest (considering my pace is glacial on a good day). Regardless I'm in the position, last minute, of having to take my mulligan/wildcard month for Month 3. 

Now, cards on the table, I had actually planned April in for this as an opportunity to get the remainder of the force built, based and undercoated in preparation for the final two months (and maybe getting a bit of terrain done too whilst I was at it). Which, admittedly, is something I should have done last year. 

Anyway, I did at least achieve some things this month. I got my Glade Guard to the state below:

...and managed to get my tribute painted to my best approximation of the recipient's style:

And, as an added bonus, I received the following from the OTHER PaulM. Rather lovely he is too and will go on to join my scouts eventually. Paul also added some extra treats to the package which was a lovely surprise. Must by psychic as I love a Double Decker. Unfortunately I won nowt on the scratch card. Thanks Paul!

So what are plans for April then? Pretty much unchanged if I'm honest. I have a few days work on the Glade Guard and then will look to getting everything else prepped for the final push - that being basing and undercoating my Characters and Warhawk Riders. I would also like to get at least one Treeman done. Basically as much as I can fit in. Let's see how it goes eh? 

Ian's Mordheim - Disciple of the Void (Wild card)

This is my June's production:

I would have loved to paint a bad ass miniature or a few other poor victims of the City of the Damned to add to my Mordheim's warbands. But life was pretty stressful during June with another big project I worked on for the last 10 months, not at all related to miniatures, the end of the school year (I'm a teacher) and two trips to plan for this summer (leaving on June 30th for the first one). Unfortunately I couldn't find the time and/or motivation to paint anything related to the Challenge for this last month. I finished 30 skeletons and 15 night goblins though that were all over my painting space for the last 6 months...

Wrap up will be coming in July with a few extra pictures of my whole OWAC VI Mordheim's production.

Sybou's Mulligan by M. Freeman

Hi everyone,

I'm Morgan Freeman. This month i have the honor to introduce you to Sybou's Mulligan.
At first, i asked myself what the hell is a Mulligan? And what shall I do ?

Then I understood, Sybou was too ashamed to talk about his efficiency during June. June, start of summer, lots of stuffs to think about, like getting your vacations ready or gathering more armies ...

I mean what's wrong with you people ... starting a new army you didn't even finish one ...

I mean look at ... This Greyhald Baronny army got a unit of 20 flagellants half done since last december ... And don't talk about the regular chaos army that's taking dust for 1,5 years.

So the lad was willing to paint 50 zombies in one month ... I mean 50 zombies and no monobloc one sculpt zombies, ... no, like 50 different ones, from Adams and Morley ... and even a plastic heroquest one for nostalgic reasons i ve difficulties to understand...

I mean, it s a pretty time consuming hobby and it's something that many of you meet during hobby time. Sometimes, you're on something then the next day you're finding energy for something completly different. The main point is to keep motivation and energy for all your projects, sometimes you go until the end and sometimes you don't.

Owac, according to Sybou, seemed to be a heck of time. It helped to progress on this mountain of lead that each of us gather patiently and the month of July shall see the conclusion for all of you. 

Talking about that, it will be the month for the army photoshoot. I bet this will be grand.

Jeff's Dark Elves - April (0 Points)

Out with a whimper instead of a bang, I fear.  I'm using my mulligan this month.  Long story short, (and without putting too many personal details on the internet) real life happened, emergency surgery was involved, and everyone is fine now; but I've not put paint on a miniature all month.

Ed's regrettably throwing in the towel (or maybe not after all)

Hi everyone. I regret to inform you that unfortunately I will have to call time on my old world army challenge.

 I'd have to say my work being increasingly busy has played the biggest part in this decision; I have been working every day recently and have been too drained to pick up a smaller paint brush in the evenings.

 Secondly, my final installment has been looking doubtful as a) I haven't even managed to buy all the figures for my dwarf unit and b) I haven't even decided on which figures to use for my cavalry, let alone buy them.

 Finally, I have to admit that I'm feeling pretty burnt out with painting Empire right now. I think the unit of halberdiers last month brought that on. I didn't want this project to end up rushed and a chore.

 It's a real shame I've had to come to this decision when the end is in sight. I must look at the positives on the other hand. I had planned on starting a Border Princes army last year anyway and had it not been for the challenge I confess wouldn't have got as far with it as I have done, I know what I'm like and I'd have probably painted half of what you've seen before taking a break from it and tackling something else.

The challenge is indeed just that. It takes commitment and a lot of focus and I've been mightily impressed at the efforts of you guys! It's been a massive success and you all deserve the praise you get.

 I wish you all the luck to get yourselves over the finishing line. You can do it!

Note from the Challenge Overlord : After discussing with Ed, I decided to let him stay in the challenge, even though he's used his mulligan already. So close to the end, and Ed have produced such brilliant work, I felt it would be a shame for him to drop out at this point. I suggested that he stay in, and he accepted. Consequently, Ed will produce one last entry for us in April, and obviously be allowed to post his wrap-up post, with his completed army. 

Whitehorn's having a bad time

I made a start on some zombies at the beginning of the month.

Then my girlfriend declared the house we wanted to move to was ours for the taking.

So I spent some time sorting stuff from our current home, selling stuff, planning.

I got ill, but soldiered on.

Then we split up.

Now the month is over.

And I hope April treats me better.

Well,

Best laid plans and all. I could give you some sob story, or tell you that the one figure I painted is worth 200 points, but instead I'll just take a mulligan and try to get these knights and artillery painted up.

I thought I could wrap things up with the day off yesterday and a quick track meet this morning, but I had to stay all day to cover for someone and frankly I'm tired after 9 hours out in the sun.

So should be smooth sailing to finish the lot for April and hopefully have some more terrain to take a bitchin army shot.

Rochie's Mulligan Post

Really wasn't planning on taking a mulligan at all during this challenge, but this month has seen me more ill than I've ever been, swollen joints have me crippled.

So, unfortunately I have to call this month a fail and hope the test results come back in time for treatment to start so that I can finish strong next month, so until then well done to all my fellow participants and here's to the grand finale!
