Ratwig's OWAC VI Close Out

So for this year's OWAC, I managed to get four units and command completed, worth 1338 points. Not much to say that hasn't been already said, except that I enjoyed painting this army. Not sure what I'll be doing for next year's OWAC...

The whole army:

The General:

The zombie plague is still out there! Had a narrow brush with it last month when some friends got it...

Because Spears!

I hope you have a good day while I have a Jack or six!

Ratwig's June OWAC VI WAB Romano - British Rank & File Entry #4: Equites for Cohort 1 Tungrormu Miliaria (205 Points)

My final OWAC VI entry is a unit of ten Equites (Late Roman heavy cavalry) from Cohort 1 Tungrorum Miliaria. They are part of the same regiment as my March entry. The unit has throwing spears and light armor added (so yes, more spears!).

          10 x Equites (205 points)

                - Equipment: javelins, shield, horses, throwing spear (+2), light armor (+2)

                - Full command of leader, standard and musician (+15)

The figures are a mix of Gripping Beast and Footsore. Three were modified by exchanging their as cast heads with replacements from West Wind. Spears and Draco pole are brass rod.

Unit coming at you!

And there we have it, another OWAC completed!

Ratwig's April OWAC VI WAB Romano-British Command Entry (229 points)

Presented this entry is Magnate Torquatas Novellius Atticus, Army General of a late Roman Army stationed in Brittania at the end of its days as a Roman province, and Decurio Gambinius Felix, his personal standard bearer (Army Standard Bearer). Torquatas displays his political connections by way of the purple stripe on his shirt and on his personal standard. To further tie him to his standard, the orbiculi on his cape is also displayed on his draco standard. He has two character advantages, "fabricae" and "born to the purple". Fabricae represents his having control of an armory which lets most forces under his command have the light armor option for +2 points each. Born to the purple extends his command radius from 12" to 18". He is not a fighting general, he doesn't mix it up against hairy barbarians personally, he stays behind the lines inspiring the troops and directing them during a battle.

Magnate Torquata Novellius Atticus: 156 points

Equipment: sword, light armor (+3), mounted on horse (+8)

      Special: Army General

Character advantages: Fabricae (+15), Born to the Purple (+30)

Decurio Gambinius Felix: 73 points

Equipment: sword, light armor (+3), mounted on horse (+8), shield (+2)

      Special: Army Standard Bearer (+15)

Total Points: 229

Inspiring the troops to feats of glory for Rome! Or at least not to run away at the first sign of the Picts...

These figures are by Footsore Miniatures, the general being modified by having his raised hand cut off and replaced with a Gripping Beast hand with sword molded to it so that he can now ride about the battlefield swinging it inspirationally!

That's it for this month, time for a Jack!

Ratwig's March OWAC VI WAB Romano-British Rank and File Entry #3: Cohort 1 Tungrorum Miliaria (350 points)

My entry for March is an eighteen man unit of Milites, Cohort 1 Tungrorum Miliaria, led by a Tribune, Gnaeus. This was an actual unit raised in the Ardennes and sent to Britain. They are equipped with hand weapon, javelins (plumbatae, or lawn darts as I call them), spears, large shields and light armor. The unit includes full command of leader, standard bearer and musician and costs 214 points total. Tribune Gnaeus is equipped with sword, javelins, large shield and light armor for 136 points puting the grand total for this at 350 points. Shields were hand painted. Gripping Beast sells a pack of hands with lawn darts so I used those to convert the rear rank to be ready to launch said lawn darts. Spears and banner pole are the usual brass rods. The draco banner was swiped from a Black Tree designs command fig. The figures are a mix of Saxon (now Warlord), Gripping Beast and Footsore.

Ratwig's January OWAC VI WAB Romano-British Rank and File Entry: Cohors III Nerviorum, (256 Points)

For my first entry I am submitting Decurio Crisius and Cohors III Nerviorum, a unit of 32 Pedyt. They are not too hot as their weapon skill of 2 puts them on par with goblins... The troops are equipped with thrusting spear and large shield (+1) and have full command of leader (+5), standard (+5) and musician (+5), which brings them in at 201 points. They have the Shieldwall ability, which along with their large size, helps with their durability a little. Decurio Crisius is equipped with a sword, large shield (+3), heavy throwing spear (+1) and light armor (+3) for a total of 55 points. This brings the total points up to 256. All figures are Gripping Beast, and the spears are brass rod pounded flat on one end and sharpened.

And that is a wrap for submission one.

It's Jack time! Ratwig out.

Ratwig's OWAC VI Opening Post: WAB Age of Arthur

Greetings folks! and welcome to my version of OWAC VI. This year's slave sent to the overlord is the one that would have gone last year if I could have just managed to paint him in time for the start of OWAC V. Anyway, I give you Mox Mon on a Cold One, whose brother Mox Mox, from OWAC IV, got him volun-told to go to the land of chill and serve the witch king. Mox Mon has even painted the overlord's colors on his shield.

This year, the overlord said we could do GW side projects, which included Warhammer Ancient Battles. I have had an unpainted Romano-British Civitate, Twilight of Britannia army for the "The Age of Arthur" supplement sitting around for a long time and so, since I'm taking a break from Dark Elves for a while, here we go. The army will be around 1500 points as that is what is called for in the supplement. I'm breaking it down into submissions as I plan to paint the prepared figs first and scramble later when trying to assemble the figs for later submissions. In order of planned submission, here goes:

31 x Pedyt led by a Decurio, with full command, and large shields: 255 points total

23 x Geoguth led by an Atheling with full command and throwing spears: 298 points total

17 x Milites led by a Tribune with full command, javelins, large shields and light armor: 345 points total

The next two units and the command figures are located in this pile of Late Roman cavalry.

They consist of:

     Command:

1 x Dux, Army Commander, mounted with shield, light armor, javelins and throwing spear - 204 points

1 x Tribune, Army Standard Bearer, mounted with shield, light armor, javelins - 160 points

10 x Commanipulares guard cavalry, with full command - 265 points

11 x Equites light cavalry, with full command - 202 points

There you have it, my planned insanity for the next six months or so...

Off to find some Jack to get this shindig rolling!
