Arjen's The Linden Way Militia (209 points)

So, for the shortest month I chose the unit with the mostest minis. What was I thinking?

So here they are mayor Leofwine and the Lindenway militia; 20 pike-men, 5 archers and a level 5 hero for a total of 140+35+34=209 points.

Now these are not professional soldiers but the farmers, shopkeepers, hunters, village watch, accountants and business annalists (A bit like "Dad's Army"; "don't panic, don't panic!"). Most of soldiery gear is family heirlooms and gear from previous tour of duties (the accountant is rumored to have been a "+4 shock troop" before his arthritis made that profession difficult).

The uniform look has more to do with everyone in Linden way using the same material for clothing (wool and deerskin) and the occasional peddler dumping bulk volume of cheap fabric paint (worm purple and scorpion green in this case).

Front row here are 5 hunters and poachers.

In the middle is Mayor Leofwine with his great sword and those citizens with prior experience in soldiery.

Next row are the farmers, landowners with their heirlooms and peons.

Last row are those with enough pike experience that they are trusted to not hinder their fellow soldiers with their reach weapons.

Last pic is of Mayor Leofwine alone.

I contemplated spreading this unit over several months and adding models worth more points to get the ~200 point monthly quota. In the end I do tend to paint in large batches quite fast and it is not that much of a problem after I picked my color palette.

Arjen's engineers of Osrim Charz (299pts)

Let's start at the end shall we? Osrim Charz and his group of 11 engineer are part of the force defending Orc's drift from the hordes of orcs that have (presumably) already led waste to several other villages in the valley of Armalia. Just to ease me into it as it is a fairly small group of miniatures; 12 dwarfs in total.

In the scenario stats Osrim Chardz has a great sword, lacking a dwarf model with a great sword I used one with a great bonkin' hammer, should fit as he leading dwarf engineers and sappers I though.

"Great bonkin' hammer"; total of 134 points

The engineer are statted as being armed with hammers, shovels and pick axes and I mistakenly (I just reread the scenario' Command Sheet) though no shields so I picked all my shield-less dwarfs and engineer/sapper types. I might have to paint some shields and add then in a next month.

Another great hammer and ax.
Pick-ax and hammer and candle on helmet.

great ax, hand ax and sword.

Sword, sword and ax.

Hammer and ax.

I tried to tie the group together by adding a blue-white motif at least somewhere on the models. I suspect these would be the colors of their alma mater engineering university's Bloodbowl team (of which they are all ex-members).

And all together now. 134 for Osrim and 165 for the engineers.

All in all I am pretty happy with the result and especially with the eyes, I didn't think I had that in me still. Now I have to figure out whether I'm going to paint a 26 model strong Linden Way militia in 1 month or mix this group up with some higher point cost models from the other groups.

Arjen's The Bloodbath at Orc's Drift Scenario: The Good Guys.

The Bloodbath at Orc's Drift is a four part scenario written for Warhammer Fantasy Battle second edition and pits the inhabitants of Ramalia against the invading orcs of King F'yar. I was able to run the first 2 scenarios a few years ago using my orcs and some borrowed dwarves and elves. In the mean time I've been able to collect most of the non-orc miniatures to be able to run all 4 scenarios.

So instead of a"legal" 3rd or 4th edition army I ask and got permission to paint several of the scenario's forces for the challenge. The scenario was written for 2nd edition and I've tried to find the best fitting 3rd edition point values for them using the Warhammer Armies book.

Scenario 1: The Wood Elves of Kachas pass:

25 bowmen, Herdil (level 5) and Erdolas (Level 15)
These 25 elf bowmen (3rd edition points) and the 2 characters will comprise a point value of 300+53+133=486. These could be divided in two 200+ point chunks of about 13-14 models each per month

Scenario 2: The Dwarves of Ashak's Rise

6 dwarfs with shield, 5 dwarves with crossbow, Borinn (level 15) and Snorinn (level 5)
The dwarf prospectors consist of 6 dwarves with shield, 5 dwarves with crossbows, Borinn Fimbul, a level 15 dwarf and his son Snorinn Fimbul, a level 5 hero. Together these will be 65+72+134+54=325. This should be feasible in a month. In the scenario the dwarves also have 3 pack-mules, I've been able to find 2 (and I know I should have a 3rd somewhere), I might add them in the same month or use an extra or Mulligan month for those. Technically dwarves are considers "good" but in the scenario these dwarves were of the renegade kind doing some freelance prospecting; greedy bastards.

Scenario 3: Linden Way Militia

20 militia with pikes, 5 militia with bow and mayor Leofwine, captain of the militia
All of the 20 militia with pikes are ex-citadel foundry models, the bowmen are a mix of pre-slotta fighters, some Bretonnians and a norse bowmen. Mayor Leafwine is a model I borrowed from my Talisman project. Together they will represent 140+35+34=210 points. An ideal point amount for a month but it will be a daunting month with 26 models. I might mix them up with some of the other forces to even out the models per month a bit. This scenario also has a whole bunch of villagers, I have some of these as pre-slotta Citadel minis and Foundry miniatures and I might add those to the extra month.

Scenario 4: The engineers of Osrim Chardz

11 dwarf engineers/sappers and Osrim Chardz (level 15 dwarf)
This scenario has several forces as defenders, Brommedir's bows, Osrim Chardz engineers and the druid Ferndale Snart and his patients. I have Brommedir's bow already painted and I'm still collecting the proper minis for Snart's patients so for the challenge I'll paint Osrim Chardz and his 11 dwarf sappers for 134+165=299 points.

The extras:

Brommedir, Brommedir's stand-in, Snart and 2 mules.
As extras I'll try paint Brommedir and Snart (which I was able to buy this month) and 2 mules (and a 3rd if I'm able to find it) and maybe some villagers of Linden Way and Snart's patients (not pictured). The second model from the left was the pre-slotta elf miniature I planned to use for Brommedir before I found the slotta model sold as Brommedir. This model will be my participation fee.

Arjen's Wrap-up : Plaagrotter Foo Foo the Snoo's warband

Yes, apparently I changed the name of the leader of the warband halfway, sue me. It started as Plaagrotter (rough translated from Dutch as Plague-Rotter), a beastman shaman, and his collection of misfits. When I got down to painting the broo shaman miniature to represent Plaagrotter I though e/she resembled the Dr. Suess illustration of Foo Foo the Snoo. I couldn't change the old and I couldn't leave the new name so: "Plaagrotter Foo Foo the Snoo" it is.

The only one that was willing to take the picture in the house was my 4 yr old daughter; Jocelyn. I think the picture is great, so there.

Arjen's Plaagrotter's warband is complete with Phlem and the Metal Heads.

The final push of this challenge, the mandatory part at least, is a unit of thugs with shields and a chaos warrior (total points: 200). I still have to decide whether I use my "mulligan-month" to do extra figures of clean up the units from the last 5 months.

Phlem the Chaos Warrior; as I was painting a unit with a lot of exposed flesh; why not paint this guys armor a nice flesh color? If it makes people slightly nauseous or uncomfortable looking at him then pappa Nurgle is happy. His sword is the infamous Puss-blade. He collected around him a unit of mostly deviant percussionists and axe shredders; the Metal heads.

Phlem, center front, his companions from L->R are; Pissboy, Arnie, Phlem, Obelix and Jack.

Geitman Foo-foo the Snoo and her merry band of murder Broo (240pts)

This month, again, a last minute mad dash to the finish:13 beastmen + beastman shaman lvl 5 = 130+110= 240. They have been looking at me, all primed and covered with just the first layer of paint and crude wash for the most part of the month but they came together when specific areas got some distinct color, unfortunately many suffered from a coarse primer mistake I made in Fall.

Arjen's Rudiger's Bastards and The Old Man (205pts)

Rudiger's Bastards:

14 Thugs with bows and a troll: 140+65=205 points (sorry for all the crappy pictures, I have only my cheap phone to work with)

Arjen's Plaagrotter's Marauders: Peace and Love and Plague (234pts)

For December I had the choice of an easy 200+ points or a Mulligan, with my Son's birthday preparations and being away for the holidays and all. Luckily my selection contained a unit of 6 Chaos Marauders, that should be doable in a few stolen hours, right?

It was barely, luckily we decided my mother in-law needed a break from having the whole family over for the time spanning Christmas and New Year so we went home in between, giving me a couple of evenings to paint these bastards:

Arjen's Teringleijer's Brothers and sisters; Unit of Beestmannen (205pts)

Teringleijer is a Level 5 Beastman Hero (65 points) and is accompanied by 13 of his brothersand sisters and personal standard bearer Zuurbakkus (13*10 plus 10=140) for a total of 205 points. They have 29 eyes among the 14 of them for an average of 2.07 eyes per person.

Arjen's Geitmans Plaagrotters from The Netherlands of the Chaos Wastes

My Warhammer interest was triggered again, a few years ago, when I bought a big lot of AD&D books which included several old Citadel models and a unit of Hobgoblins. As I had less time to play D&D because of small kids, collecting and painting minis was the perfect answer, games could be months in between but I could still "hobby" a bit every day after the kids were asleep. O&G where my first collection, but I snapped up every old chaos model in the process, chaos would be my "project 2".

Game-wise I found it hard to find other oldhammer players and didn't want to invest in the new warhammer rules. I game mastered 3 games of the Blood bath at Orcs Rift with my minis but that was it (awesome as it was)!. I did find a game that allowed me to pit my models agains other newhammer, historical, warmahordes and SAGA minis: Lion Rampant (later Dragon Rampant). That's when I started to paint some of my chaos minis:
