About the Old World Army Challenge

The Special edition rules

**RULES OF THE CHALLENGE! **The Special Edition**

**MANDATORY READING**

The Challenge will start on January 1st 2023, 12:01am and finish on June 30th, 2023, 11:59pm (Eastern time, but we're not freaks about this).

The goal is to create a Oldhammer project in 6 months. It can be an army, or any other Oldhammer style project.

For this special edition, specialist games will be allowed (GW) Provided of course they are from the right(ish) period (Blood Bowl, Space Hulk, Space Crusade, Warmaster, Epic, Man O War, Mordheim, Necromunda, Heroquest, Warhammer Ancient Battles, Battle Masters.)
We want to see your project grow over the six months. As such, you must pick ONE themed project and stick to it.

Each challenger monthly entry must be entered, on the challenge's blog, by the last day of each month, 11:59PM.

The months of the challenge are divided into 3 types. **Each challenger must fulfill these requirements in any order they please to finish the challenge.**

Part I - The Project
The requirements are the following:

Four « Rank & File » months : Each challenger must submit :
- 10 foot figures (or two squads of figures amounting to 10 figures)
- OR
- 5 mounted figures
- OR
- a vehicle (the size of a 40K Rhino or bigger).
Fine prints: Bikes count as mounted figures. Creatures on 40mm or 50mm bases (Trolls, etc.) will be worth 2 foot figures. All crew operated machines (canons, land speeder, etc.) will be worth their crew for requirement purposes (so a two man speeder is worth 2 figures) PLUS one figure worth for the actual engine.
6mm : 6mm vehicles or artillery will be worth 0.5 foot figures. 6mm figures will be worth 0.2 foot figures. Lords of Wars and such big vehicles will be worth one foot figure.
Anything else is extra and does not count towards your minimum. ***But as much as you can, what we want to see during those 4 months are units, squads, regiments, squadrons or big ass vehicles!***

One « Leader » or « Monster » month, au choix : Each challenger must submit AT LEAST the leader of their army (general, commander, etc.) or a command group during that month OR any type of big, bad ass monster.Leaders can be mounted on monsters, vehicles, whatever strikes your fancy. A command group should include a leader, a standard bearer, etc.
*6mm : We expect some kind of unit/command group, horde of monsters and not just one lonely sad ass 6mm dude.

One « Wild card » month : Each challenger may do whatever he wants during that month. He may submit any kinds of figures in any quantity he wants (of course still part of your army), he may take the month off and not submit anything, he can work on extras or even terrain. Challengers who wish to submit one or more pieces of terrain (must be somehow related to your army) are welcomed to do so.

So logically, every challenger MUST write one post on the blog per calendar month, unless you decided to take your « Wild card » off and don’t submit anything. No more no less. (Please keep the progress reports, questions, etc. for the Facebook group).
Please indicate in your blog post, at the beginning preferably, what « kind of month » you are fulfilling (for example « Rank and File month #2 »).

PART II - The projects
- You decide what size of project you want to build, and your list should reflect that decision.
- You do not have to submit a minimum number of points of miniatures each month, as long as you respect the monthly figure requirements.
More importantly, follow a good theme. And try to make your project playable.
- Challengers who want to paint armies like previous editions are welcome to do so. You must use either the points value from Warhammer Fantasy 3rd edition (WH Armies or Realm of Chaos) or 4th (appropriate army book) for their submissions. Rogue traders\40K challengers must use the points value from Rogue Trader (Compendium, Compilation, the ork books) or the appropriate 2ndedition book.
- Magic items and magic banners do not count towards your 1000 pts;
- If possible, try to follow your army composition guidelines, from the army list you picked and the point value you’re aiming for;
- If you are unsure about anything points wise, just contact the Overlord with your question;
- If you claim points for standard bearers or musicians, they must be painted.
- Special edition note : It's still an Oldhammer challenge. While its ok to use non-oldhammer figures, fill your project with nostalgia. Please consult your Overlord if your project is weird, unique or difficult to fit in the requirements. We'll try to find a way.

PART III – INTRODUCTION POST AND PARTICIPATION FEES
**Challengers must write an introduction post no later than December 31st 2022 to officialize their participation in the OWAC.** The introduction post should come with an project list and pics of the bare lead, a presentation of yourself and the project, etc.
Moreover, each challenger will have to pay the piper, by painting one Oldhammer figure of your choice for your benevolent Overlord (Iannick Martin).
The overlord LOVES horror and things that go bump in the night, be it a cemetary or an old derelict spaceship.
Do what you want with that information.
You will have to show off this PAINTED figure in your Introduction post and ship it to me by the end of the challenge.

PART IV - The Blog
- Each of you will be responsible for submitting your own entries directly to the Challenge Blog, BUT THE ADMINS WILL DO THE FINAL PUBLISHING
- Please provide a few pictures illustrating your painting prowess
- These images should be between 800-1000 pixels, across the top and at 72 dots perinch (DPI), if possible. If you do not know how to resize pics, then so be it, but it will help us with space issues AND your pics will look better if you follow this.
- Your entry must be formatted in Georgia, and be in "Normal" size
- Each entry must be accompanied by a breakdown of the point value of the submission
- When your entry is ready to be published, put in the title "Ready to be published"
- ONE OF THE ADMIN WILL THEN DOUBLE-CHECK YOUR POST FOR ANY FORMATTING ISSUES AND THEN PUBLISH IT
- Also, in order to maintain interest in the event, the Challenge blog will have 'rights of first display' for 24 hours prior to you posting your entries to your own blogs or other Facebook groups. Otherwise we claim no rights to the images other than a request to keep them on the blog for sake of posterity.
**Remember, the goal is to motivate each other, support each others, and see magnificent Oldhammer armies rise before our own eyes. Of course thrash talk is allowed and encouraged, but this is not a competition; we want everyone to reach the finish line.**

PART V - PRIZES
- There will be diverse prizes at the end of the challenge, including best painted army, and hopefully random prizes for challengers who completed the challenge, and more surprises.
The founder and Overlord of the Challenge (Iannick) will not be available for those prizes.
FAQ (updated as we get questions)
- Figures/Models can be primed before the start date but no other paint can be applied prior to that date. A coloured primer is fine, and so is prepping the basework, if that is your preferred process;

Welcome to the madness, special edition style!

**RULES OF THE CHALLENGE! **
The Goal? An Oldhammer army

The Challenge? 6 months to achieve it

The Old World Challenge was set-up by Iannick Martin as an initiative to motivate fellow Oldhammer painters and gamers to create an Oldhammer army in 6 months. Every month for 6 months, the Challengers have to submit a number of Oldhammer figures, using their favourite army lists. It is not a competition, as there are no winners, but rather we encourage one another to reach our goal.

We are 40ish challengers, from Japan to Canada, and most factions of Warhammer and Rogue Trader are represented, from Dwarfs to Elves, from Space Marines to Orks, from Goblins to the Empire.

Welcome to our madness.

RULES OF THE CHALLENGE

Part I - THE BASICS

The Challenge will start on January 1st 2021, 12:01am and finish on June 30th, 2022, 11:59pm (Eastern time, but we're not freaks about this).

The goal is to create a Fantasy or 40K army (challenger’s choice) in 6 months. It must be an army of at least 1000 pts, but you can plan for a bigger force. We suggest you start a new army, or if you choose to add to an existing one, to create a unique "Division" or such. We want to see your force grow over the six months. As such, you must pick ONE force and stick to it.

Each challenger monthly entry must be entered, on the challenge's blog, by the last day of each month, 11:59PM.

The months of the challenge are divided into 3 types. Each challenger must fulfill these requirements in any order they please (as well as producing an army of at least 1000pts) to finish the challenge.
The requirements are the following:

Four « Rank & File » months : Each challenger must submit :

- a regiment/squad of 10 foot figures (or two squads of figures amounting to 10 figures)
- OR
- 5 mounted figures
- OR
- a vehicle (the size of a 40K Rhino or bigger).
Fine prints: Bikes count as mounted figures. Creatures on 40mm or 50mm bases (Trolls, etc.) will be worth 2 foot figures. All crew operated machines (canons, land speeder, etc.) will be worth their crew for requirement purposes (so a two man speeder is worth 2 figures).
Anything else is extra and does not count towards your minimum. But as much as you can, what we want to see during those 4 months are units, squads, regiments, squadrons or big ass vehicles!

One « Leader » month : Each challenger must submit AT LEAST the leader of their army (general, commander, etc.) or a command group during that month. That leader and\or command group will be worth automatically 200pts (if it’s worth more than 200 pts, you can claim its full point value). Leaders can be mounted on monsters, vehicles, whatever strikes your fancy. A command group should include a leader, a standard bearer, etc. At the end of the challenge, there will be a vote for the best leader\command group, with accompanying prize. So, we want you to work extra hard. Give it a special base, whatever but make it POP.

One « Wild card » month : Each challenger may do whatever he wants during that month. He may submit any kinds of figures in any quantity he wants (of course still part of your army), he may take the month off and not submit anything, he can work on extras or even terrain. Challengers who wish to submit one or more pieces of terrain (must be somehow related to your army) will be rewarded a bonus 50pts, no matter the size and number of pieces. The Overlord reserves the right to bump that 50pts should the terrain piece be especially impressive.

PART II - THE POINT VALUES

- You decide what size of army you want to build, and your army list should reflect that decision.
- You do not have to submit a minimum number of points of miniatures each month, as long as you respect the monthly figure requirements. It is therefore your responsibility to ensure you reach at least a 1000 pts by the end of the challenge. There are no prizes for amount of points. This is not a speed painting competition: take your time, do your best work.
- Fantasy challengers must use either the points value from Warhammer Fantasy 3rd edition (WH Armies or Realm of Chaos) or 4th (appropriate army book) for their submissions. Rogue traders\40K challengers must use the points value from Rogue Trader (Compendium, Compilation, the ork books) or the appropriate 2ndedition book.
- Magic items and magic banners do not count towards your 1000 pts;
- If possible, try to follow your army composition guidelines, from the army list you picked and the point value you’re aiming for;
- If you are unsure about anything points wise, just contact the Overlord with your question;
- If you claim points for standard bearers or musicians, they must be painted.

Challengers must write an introduction post no later than December 31st 2020 to officialize their participation in the OWAC. The introduction post should come with an army list and pics of the bare lead, a presentation of yourself and the project, etc.

Moreover, each challenger will have to pay the piper, by painting one Oldhammer figure of your choice for your benevolent Overlord (Iannick Martin) either 40K or fantasy (The Overlord currently fancies Space Marines, Eldars and sci-fi civilians). The challenge is a lot of work, the new format even more so, so yes consider this my payment. You will have to show off this figure in your Introduction post and ship it to me by the end of the challenge.

PART IV - THE BLOG

- Each of you will be responsible for submitting your own entries directly to the Challenge Blog, BUT THE ADMINS WILL DO THE FINAL PUBLISHING
