Qrab's Chaos: March Marauders Madness (205 points)

After finishing early last month, and with only five models left to paint for the challenge, I was optimistic that I'd be one of the first to finish the challenge. But here it is the last week of March and I've just now finished painting those five models. Where did the fucking time go?

Also, after last month's disaster, I decided to wait for it warms up before I apply the clear coat. So, for now these guys are attached to their bases with pins (no glue). Looking at the close up photos I see some rough spots I'm not really happy with, so after the challenge is over I might do some touch ups.

Anyway, this month I present the front rank for my unit of Chaos Marauders with two-handed weapons, for a total of 205 points. I kept to the same color scheme used for the models in the rear rank, but it appears I flipped the steel and black armor pieces.

Mustafa’s Wodzo The Irrational and Krauluggetch The Vagrant (423pts)

Wodzo The Irrational and Krauluggetch The Vagrant

I felt so bad about my mulligan the other month that I decided to double my efforts this month! Yes, TWO stunty retinues for your viewing pleasure!

Lissanne's High Elves- Waiting for Feanor or someone like him (279pts)

This month I have done my mandatory General on a chariot.  I have been calling him Feanor, but when it came down to it, I didn't think the figure I had represents Feanor well at all. So I matched the paint scheme to my army banner, and it will be a useful leader, or a hero if I find my Feanor later on. (General 160+4 for sword, spear, heavy armor, Chariot 84 total 248pt)

Jeff's Dark Elves - March (200 points)

March did not go as planned, the kids' spring sports seasons starting up meant that "Dad's Taxi" was operating much later into the evening, and the distractions were many (Necromunda, I'm looking at you....). So, by the 25th it had become obvious that I was not going to finish the 20 strong unit of Mengil's Manhides as I had planned to.  While contemplating the dark shame of having to use my Mulligan, it occurred to me that I just might be able to turn the hydra I had planned for the end around pretty quickly.   I did manage to pull that off, (nothing terribly fancy, mind you), so here he is....200 points of plastic toy glory freshly painted and pressed into Oldhammer service.

Ratwig's Dark Elf Repeater Crossbows (306pts)

My entry for March: Jownj ‘Et and the Blackhearts.
14 Crossbows with level 10 leader: 306 points total.
Equipment: Hand weapon, repeater crossbow, light armor, shield, musician.

A unit of repeater crossbows who will be used as a short range assault missile unit or a skirmisher unit. If used as a formed unit, they can put out a hail of missile fire before going in to clean up survivors. They should have no problems operating in skirmish order to cause problems for the other side. This unit gets me over my 20 elf minimum for crossbows.

These are all Marauder figs except one. I couldn’t find enough old round Marauder shields, so I used Gripping Beast Successor Shields instead. They are smaller but have the same general shape as the original Marauder shields, even with a small indentation on the inside that fits the Marauder shield stubs on the figs quite nicely.

John's Chaos Dwarf Warmachines (480pts)

Decided to make oldhammer Iron Daemon and Skullcracker based off of the old Tenderizer using the old empire steam tank.

Andrea's Wood Elves archers and the last wardancers (196pts)

Hi Guys,
here the last 196 pts planned for the challenge. Finally, my force is finished and this is very cool!

Well before the last post, with the description of the whole force, here's what  should be the core of any Wood Elf army (well... not really in this instance, actually): archers.

Therefore, I am glad to introduce Scarloc Hood and its Marry Elves!

Millsy's Empire: Steam Tank and Halberdiers (284 points)

G'day All,

I'm all done! With this submission of a Steam Tank (200 points) and 12 x Halberdiers (84 points) I've completed my force at a total of 1,035 points. Sweet!

So here we have my last two units, firstly an as-yet-to-be-named Steam Tank. I'm not a fan of the crew figure - there's something a little to steam-punky about him for my liking - so I've left him off and closed the hatch. It's a lovely little model and although a bit fiddly to get all lined up right it goes together well enough.

Anthony's centaurs join the fray (320 pts )

The thundering of hooves brought a smile to Morgoth's twisted visage. As powerful a sorceror as he was, Morgoth knew that the centaurs were only going to join the ranks of his beastmen followers if he was truly favored by the Blue Serpent. His smile was part satisfaction at the appearance of the centaurs, and equal part gratification that the Blue Serpent was ready to rise and claim the world as his own.

February Standings

Here's where we stand at the end of February. We already have 2 overachievers that have hit 1000 points. From the looks of it, a lot more will hit 1000 points at the end of March.

And since I have the time this week, I've also updated the Chart by Army distribution. I love MS Excel, can you tell?

Cheers, Jeff

Yosef's mercenary giant (250pts)

So as i continued the army, i felt it needed some punch, and what better to bring to a mercenary army than a mercenary Giant! So i had this little guy around that i got for 3$ on a joke bid on ebay, and  i decided to paint him, by far the cheapest miniature, and the only non-citadel/marauder one. But at the same point the most expensive one in points at 250!

Brennan's March Post or Robhob's Stikkas (216pts)

March! And the last batch?  This time I present the required goblin archers with two fanatics and a troll to fill out the 200 points for the month, but this will also bring me up to 1,000 points.

Below is a unit of goblin archers (stikkas) whom I have named after the boss, Robhob...  An old friend of Snailcrusher.  His regiment is a bit more of a militia force and that's kinda how I see goblins.  Militia that can deliver fanatics.  I don't expect much out of them on the field.

Blue: March Wood Elves...(214pts)

Hi all,

Well...after the unexpected Mulligan that I was forced to take last month due to an ill timed visit by the touch of Nurgle, I've decided to just crank through the figures I was working on for February and get them posted.

So here they are...First the Group Photo

Inching towards the finish line (February done)

Congratulations to all challengers for another month well done. I can see challengers have started to find their groove, and the challenge is really going along smoothly. This is great for me and the other Admin!

Two months left! Keep up the good work, keep your eyes on the prize, and best of luck in March!

JeffA's I painted the wrong Harpies (150pts)

For this month's entry I decided on Harpies. Now back when we first started this, and I chose Chaos, I included Harpies in my list. I had both the Chaos Harpies and Dark Elf Harpies in my basement. I liked the DE Harpies better. The Chaos ones look more like Gargoyles. Anyway, I decided to paint the DE Harpies for my Chaos warband since I had no plans to paint a DE army, also no figures other than the Harpies.

Then in February I got a really good deal on an unpainted Oldhammer DE army. All metal, I couldn't pass it up.  So I continued to paint the the Harpies but with an eye towards using them for both Chaos and Dark Elves. I will later paint the Gargoyle looking Harpies to replace the ones I painted this month.

So with all that out of the way, here are the girls I painted.

BulldogLopez and his Rock Hard Mulligan!!

Petrified by my cockatrice!!

Wuddup wuddup!! I got bored of painting rank and file troops this month and decided to use my mulligan month to paint up a monster. I've had this cockatrice laying around the leadpile for a few years and I decided it was time to get him painted!

Tom's Chaos Troll, Pestigor and Slambo (259pts)

First up I have 4 more Pestigor with a level 5 hero. That comes out to 126 points with light armor and a halberd for the hero

Blue's Shame...Unplanned Mulligan...

Well, time to face the reality that I'm taking my Mulligan this month.

Go ahead....heap on the shame...I can take it...

The month started off very promising and I got a ton of work started on a whole bunch of figures.  But as crunch time approached my house was visited by Papa Nurgle and I've spent the last week either taking care of sick family members or being sick myself.  It couldn't have happened at a worse time for my painting.  everything is 95% done...but I just couldn't get the last few layers applied or the bases done in time...

Sigh...

Here is where I left things...

...Close but no cigar.

Next month should be a breeze though...:)

Cheers,

Blue

Kober's Dwarfs - Its Hammer time: Dwarf clansmen (220pts)

Hammer time:   Dwarf warriors .   Points - 220

The core of any Dwarf  army is its Clansmen.

This unit's equipment includes 20 Warriors with light armor (mail armor) , shield, and hand weapon.
A mix of axe and hammers.

The unit also has an eagle theme:  denoted by the shields , banner pole, and helm crest.

Dave's February Mulligan

As mentioned in my previous post, my plan from the beginning was to use February as a mulligan month to get a head start on March, which will have be the month I paint the largest unit in my army. You will see by the end of March that this regiment is really not that big at all, in comparison to a lot of the other armies on this blog, but I am a very slow painter indeed and thought it best to be as cautious as possible with my March deadline.

I have actually run into an odd problem with my plans for the final two months of painting. Neither March nor April will quite add up to 200 points! This is simply because I had a few higher-point units in the earlier months and this left too few points for the end of the competition. I may end up painting some "extra" models for March and April that aren't really in the army to try and meet the 200 point threshold, including perhaps the alternate Sorceress that I was thinking of using. We will see... it will be a little surprise treat for the final months.

Now, I had every intention to show you this month a lovely work in progress picture of the entire force so far. That is, until I unpacked the models from our recent move... yes, you guessed it, approximately a third of them have been damaged from the move to the new apartment! Tragedy strikes! Luckily, no real irreparable harm was done, but to put them in order again will take a few days of gluing and painting touch ups here and there. The Dark Elves will ride again!

Ross: Less of a shambles

I've had a good and bad start to the year. Good in the sense that things are generally going well, but bad that I had to mulligan in January because I've been so busy working.

I managed to do some painting as part of my work, but it was for my own miniatures. Notably, these little guys.
But they're not Undead!

These are:

5 Death riders with lances, light armour : 135 points

Bens High Elves---Tonight's the Knight (180pts)

The post for this month will be short and sweet. I painted 4 Silver Helm knights that come in at 45 points each for a grand total of 180 points. I'm on the fence regarding the shields, originally I liked the dark purple now I'm not so sure. The transfers are from some old Eldar transfer sheet I had lying around and match the banner I painted last month for a different unit. I think these might be some of my favorite Citadel minis and painting them was a real treat compared to slogging through 16 rank and file guys.

As always, thanks for looking and I'm planning on filling this unit out next month with a wizard, the army standard and my general.

Blake's Dwarfs - And the Thunder Rolls...(234pts)

Ok, working on the pikemen (warriors) and the Goblobber and these guys. These guys got done first, and I am just not happy with the Goblobber, so working on it some more.

So here is a unit of thunderers, mainly blue and red, with the matching colors from the crossbowmen unit. I tried to fit some stripes in there, and used an old banner I had though I added some paint to it as well.

Thunderers - 13 points a model x 16 painted (+ standard and musician for 26 more) = 234 points

Here they are

Mike's Waagh Grogguzzler

I thought I could get by without using it...... but I did. The shame, the defeat, the not so silent judgment of my peers. I choose to use the mulligan.......

Well I took the mulligan, such a short month and I really didn't get motivated to get much done other than a goblin shaman, which wasn't in my list or 200pts (though I suppose I could have loaded him up with war gear...) But hey that's what a mulligan is for, making up for doing nothing important. I sometimes suffer, as I'm sure we all do the urge to paint anything that isn't what I should be painting. Like that big box of chaos with its siren call or the dwarves in cabinets. But now thanks to the mulligan I can relax for a few hours then prepare to paint my one of my least favorite model types to paint, cavalry!
