Undead! Bulldoggy Style

Another OWAC in the books!

Oh yeah baby! It's over!!! Now... I always swore I would NEVER, EVER, ever, ever, ever do an Undead army. Why? It never stops. NEVER. I actually started this army in December of 2018 and then bailed out of OWAC 2, and the only reason I started it was because I needed some undead for my Dark Elf sorcerers to summon. Do you see what happens when you mess around with necromancy? Do you want to? Come on in and feast your eyes on FEEEAAAARR!!!

So here is what I completed for OWAC 3... Skeleton Warriors, Archers, a Zombie regiment, Death Riders, and an Undead Chariot. I still have 15 more zombies that have to be painted. As far as painting goes I tried to cheat as much as possible to get units painted up and ready for the tabletop as quickly as possible. The zombies were painted almost exclusively using Citadel Contrast paints and utilized the airbrush extensively.

And now.. here we see the entire army assembled in it's heinous undead glory!! The whole army is a mix of models from different manufacturers which gives it a really unique character. There are a couple models that i'm not a huge fan of and may replace, but overall I'm very happy.

The army is built around a solid core of skeletons and zombies. Two regiments of Skeleton Warriors, one regiment of Grim Reapers, and a (half-finished) zombie regiment.

The main infantry force is supported by a corpse cart in the form of a skeleton on a throne palanquin and undead heroes. As you can see... there are plenty of skeletons to go around. I'm really glad I got an opportunity to paint my Evil Ash model that I picked up as part of a group commission a few years ago.

I'm very happy with how the zombies turned out. Contrast paint works perfectly with all these wonderful Kev Adams sculpts.

What's an army with it's fearless leaders? NOTHING! Check out this spooky Liche boi on his classic Ral Partha zombie dragon!! FUCKING. AWESOME. I love both the rider and dragon models and could barely contain my excitement when I decided to pair them together. I'm happy and I may have slept with this model on my night stand... maybe. (I did)

AAARRGH!! Awesome Marauder Necromancer. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.

awesome.

Next up are a couple Screaming Skull Catapults and archers to support the infantry advance. The archer models are Ral Partha and Warmonger. I'm not a huge fan of the Warmonger archers, but they get the job done. I may just end up buying another pack of the monopose Ral Partha archers to replace the Warmonger ones.

Finally the cavalry! Sixteen Death Riders, a chariot and three Carrion to outflank and roll up my enemies while the skeleton infantry bogs them down. I really had fun painting up the Carrion and their creepy little riders.

I want to thank Iannick once again for running this challenge! This is the second one I've completed and now have two fantastic armies to show for it! Next year I may end up expanding my Dark Elf army from OWAC I.

Also... I totally forgot to do an Armies Pose photo. I took all of these dudes out of the display case and then realized my error after I had put them back up.... and i'm not taking these out again unless i'm taking them to a game. So.... instead your get a photo dump. ENJOY!

UNTIL NEXT YEAR YA FUCKERS! STAY SAFE!

Bulldoglopez's Zombie Dragon (945 pts)

I had a Liche that I had to scratch

HOLY SHIT ITS OVER!!! Time to take my legion of undead out and bone the Old World!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

For my final submission I put a Liche on a Zombie Dragon. Yeah.... TERRIFYING! I spent a little bit more time painting the Liche. This figure is one of my all time favorite undead miniatures and it was nice to spend a little more time picking out the detail on the sleeves and the crown.

The Dragon itself was a pretty quick paint job as well - just a couple passes with the airbrush, a wash, and some drybrushing and then I picked out the details.  I added some tufts of grass and a broken shield bit to the base and pinned the Liche in place.

Lvl 20 Liche (Dust Lord) - 345 Points
Dragon 4 with Dessication Breath - 600 Points

Bulldoglopez's May Bonepile (332 points)

ALMOST THERE!!!

Yeah buddy!! HERE. WE. GO!!! Almost at the end!!

This month I finished up even more boneheads to the horde of the undead. I completed 7 Grim Reapers and 5 more Skeleton Archers... nothing special about the paint scheme, just a bunch of airbrushing and drybrushing.

This month was special because I got my proxy Plague Cart done. The model is The Skeleton King on War Throne from Warmonger miniatures (the archers and grim reapers are also Warmonger) It is such a cool model that I couldn't resist finding a reason to include it in my Undead Army. It's also a quick and dirty paint scheme, but I did apply a few extra highlights because it is more of a centerpiece model (but not THE centerpiece... that is on the way)

I also put together a skeleton chariot with a slightly modified driver. I took a plastic flame from some modern GW kit to create the flaming skull and made a whip out of the wires from an old power cable I had laying around. I only stuck the driver to the chariot because I haven't decided who else will be riding in the chariot but it will most likely be a Liche or some other such scary guy.

7x Grim Reapers ... 84 pts
5x Skeleton Archers ... 60 pts
Skeleton Chariot ... 88 pts
Plague Cart ... 100 pts

Bulldoglopez's Zombies! (200 points)

THEY LIVE AGAIN!!

OHHHHH SNAP!! It's Zombie time!! I've had these zombies laying around for what seems like forever and decided this month would be their moment in the sun. Nothing out there beats a horde of Kev Adams zombies. NOTHING!! Except maybe some fire.. and make some S3 weapons wielded by pretty average troops BUT WHO CARES!!! They are AWESOME!

So..... here they are in all their contrast paint glory!! Ooooooh but what's there?? Check out their leader!!! He thinks you're a little goody two shoes...

Hail to the king, baby

Yeah... that's right baby.. it's Evil Ash!!

The zombies are a mix of classic Kev Adams zombies and Zombies of Kar-Keel from our friends at Upstream Game House. These were super fun to paint and took contrast paint like champs. Evil Ash is from a Bob Olley fan sculpt group from a few years back. Kav Adams and Bob Olley miniatures in the same regiment?? Madness you say? YUP.

And to round out the 200 points, 5 more skeleton archers. Pretty BARE BONES but they get the job done.

Lopez's Death Riders (200 points)

I'm Literally The Worst

I don't know what's wrong with me. I had plenty of time to paint these and I literally waited until the last minute. It's not like I didn't have the time to paint this month.... I got plenty of stuff done.... maybe i'm just a glutton for punishment.

Anyways. Not much to talk about this month, I just powered through a unit of Death Riders. I feel like you've really got to focus and speed and economy when painting Undead. THERE'S SO MANY!!

Maybe next month I'll paint a character mini.

Lopez's Skeleton Warriors! (283 points)

These are the tales of the skeleton warriors!!

Awwwwww snikety snacks son!! I got some bony bastards all done for the first month -  off to a strong start with a solid 283 points. Skeletons are really easy to paint and I can knock out a bunch of skeletons in a weekend, which is great because January ended up being a super busy real-life month

I was really focused on painting as many skeletons as quickly as possible so I pulled out all the best gadgets. Most of the heavy lifting is done by airbrush and a wash. One quick drybrush and then all that was left was to pick out details.

This intro screams ADHD

Next month..... DEATH RIDERS!!!

Back From The Dead - Bulldoglopez rises from the field of bones

Dem Bones Dem Bones...

Hello my kind fellows!! I'm back after a shameful exit from OWAC II. What can I say other than i'm a lazy undisciplined paper bag full of cold amphibian ca-ca?

BUT NOT TODAY SATAN!!

I'm bringing in the roaring 20's with an army of UNDEAD HORRORS!!! MWUHAHAHAHA!!

I started this army last year and decided the OWAC would be a great opportunity to expand the existing army into a real horde. Some of these will be added to existing regiments while some are whole units unto themselves. I am really excited about the Warmonger Miniatures Undead King on War Throne that will serve as a "counts-as" Plague Cart

Here's what is on the table...

8 Death Riders ......................................................................................... 200 pts
24 Skeleton Warriors w/ level 5 Undead Hero......................................... 283 pts
10 Skeleton Archers.................................................................................. 120 pts
7 Grim Reapers (to add to an existing unit).............................................. 84 pts
1 Plague Cart............................................................................................. 100 pts
Lvl 15 Liche ............................................................................................. 235 pts
Lvl 20 Undead Hero on Undead Horse .................................................... 115 pts
                                                                                                           total: 1137 points
Stretch Goal....... ZOMBIE DRAGON!!!

I really hope I can knock out enough stuff to get to the Zombie Dragon. It's a great piece that is a real classic undead figure.

Thanks for reading! Happy New Year!!

Lopez Bowing Out

Throw me on the pile of bones!

Hey guys. I've made the decision to bow out of the OWAC this year. I know I could probably buy another month by taking a mulligan, but it would only delay the inevitable.

Unfortunately my heart just isn't in the OWAC this year. I thought I would be really fired up about painting a small Chaos force and take the time to individualize every model, but as it turns out Chaos just doesn't do it for me - at least not right now.

I want to leave the challenge in a way that is respectful to all the other participants because the OWAC really is a challenge and don't want to put forth a half hearted effort while everyone else is really dedicated.

Please do not become discouraged because of me leaving this years challenge, I am still very fired up about getting some round base stuff done. Please stick with the challenge, completing it last year was a very fun and rewarding experience.

I'll be rooting from the sidelines for each and every one of you to complete this challenge!

Peace and chicken grease!

Note from the Admin, AKA The Benevolent Overlord, AKA Iannick : thank you for the note, we will miss you. See you hopefully next year!

Bulldog Lopez's Dead 'Ard Chaos Warriors (296 pts)

Burn The Old World!

Well here we go again! This time around I chose a much smaller force to paint, not because i'm lazy but because I'm extremely lazy. But really folks, I already had a small band of Chaos Warriors painted up but they were all black and I thought it the regiment looked super boring, so I stripped them and started over. One thing I want to do with this force is take my time with each figure and really try and make each one stand out as an individual. It makes for a small force, but it's the Chaos Warband we deserve.

I didn't really aim to paint each of the Warriors up aligned to any particular Chaos power, but there are a few that either have iconography sculpted onto the figures or they just scream out to be painted up for a specific Chaos god.

First up is this red guy. He's probably supposed to be a Khorne figure, but I didn't go into it with that in mind. I just though he would look cool in red.

Next up is this dark green fella. The paint scheme reminds me of some super old school Chaos Warrior art. I painted his widdle feets purple because I though it looked weird.

Third one up is this scary dude in all black armor. I really enjoyed building up the highlight on this figure and got to have some fun with the exotic fur patter on his crest and boots. There are some weird ass animals up in the wastes, buddy.

Finally  this eerie, shiny green guy. Some of you remember I used lots of colored metallics on my Dark Elf army last year. Something about this dude reminded me of that 90's cartoon "Visionaries" and I thought the metallic green really gave him a great otherworldly feel.

Well, that's it. Just the four! I really enjoyed spending more time painting these than I would have if I had to knock out 15 or 20 a month. I think once all 15 Chaos Warriors are painted and ranked up together, they are going to be very striking on the table.

4x Chaos Warriors. Heavy Armor, Shield, Hand Weapon ........ 296 points

Thanks for looking!

BulldogLopez's Deadly Chaos Baddies

Howdy

I'm painting a Dead 'Ard force of Chaos Warriors. Yeah yeah, its low model count whatever. It's Chaos, people, deal with it. It's pretty straight forward. Fifteen Chaos Warriors led by a Champion. The force will not be aligned to any specific Chaos power, although some individual models will obviously be specific to a god. The idea is to like.... make them chaotic... or whatever.

SO! Here's muh list:

Total: 1495pts

Chaos Champion
Double Handed Weapon, Heavy Armor .......... 135 pts

5x Chaos Warriors
Hand Weapon, Heavy Armor, Shield ............... 370 pts

5x Chaos Warriors
Hand Weapon, Heavy Armor, Shield ............... 370 pts

5x Chaos Warriors
Hand Weapon, Heavy Armor, Shield ............... 370 pts

AND.... a bonus unit

GIANT!! ........................................................... 250 pts

My plan is to paint one unit a month and still have one month free for a mulligan (erm another bonus unit - your boy don't fucking mulligan)

Cool. Thats my list. let's party.

Lopez' Wrap-up : My Dark Elf Army Will Destroy You

Let's Get Ready to Rumble!!

Who wants to get a game in? Let's do this!

After all the blood, sweat, and tears we've finally come to the end. I have to say the last few months really were a challenge, but I'm really happy I toughed it out to the end with over 1000 points of shiny evil elves. I really want to thank Iannick and all the admins who were the driving force behind the challenge. If not for their efforts, most of this stuff would still be sitting around collecting dust. Hats off to all the participants who stuck it out to the end. Hopefully we can meet up and slaughter each others forces. Before the showcase pics, lets start off with a little video I love.

Lopez' Dreadful Dark Elves!! (365pts)

Finally Finished

Well... we made it. What a trip!

My final submission is four Helldrakes and my general, a level 20 Dark Elf Hero on Cold One. This isn't my recap post so i'll just stick to a brief write up on the unit and save the drama for the big reveal. Here they are!

BulldogLopez paints some Cold Ones! (215pts)

Big Stupid Lizards!

That's right people! Stinky dumb lizards ridden by Dark Elf nobles. Freaking. Awesome.

There really isn't much else to say about these. They were fun to paint and they will be joining another five I had previously painted up years ago.

Next up are 4 more cold one riders with the army standard and general. The next submission wasn't in my original list but i'm over 1000 points either way and I figured a general and standard would be a great way to finish up the challenge.

5 Helldrakes: Light Armor, Shield, Hand Weapon, Lance ....... 215 points

Lopez's Fishkiller's Holiday Elves (232pts)

DONE!!

Yeah!! Take that Santa! And work! And family obligations! And EXCUSES!!

My shit is painted. I really really really learned to hate Bob Naismith Dark Elves this month. I can't wait to go back to my pile of Marauder Dark Elves.

Lopez's Rhervekh's Reavers

Landing on the shores of the Great Ocean from the frozen land of Naggaroth, Rhervekh leads his band of warriors. Rhervekh heralds the arrival of a marauding horde of sadistic Dark Elves. His task is to scout out the Old World for landing sites and villages to raid. He is merciless and cruel, an ideal Lieutenant for any Dark Elf General.

Chris Lopez's Dark Elf Army

My Dark Elf army is the greatest force for evil in the southwestern Virginia region.

When I was invited to participate in this challenge I thought it would be a great way to finally finish up my Marauder Dark Elf army. I already have a force of about 1500 points painted up, but have been dragging my feet on getting the rest of the army finished up.
