Kenneth's knights FOR THE LADY! (204 Points)

Wow, February. The month in which we dedicate some extra attention to the ladies. Anď this OWAC is no different. I chose to only paint 2 models just to be sure to not burn my precious mulligan (I need that one next month).

First model is a damsel. A wizard on horseback which has been in my possession and even on the table ready to paint for way too long. So finally she's done. Every layer of paint revealed extra details. Never ever enter the battlefield without some magical support to keep your expensive knights alive.

Second model is a battle standard bearer represented by Repanse de Lyonesse. A model completely made of metal (Definately OWAC worthy) with lots of details. The banner itself was a nightmare. I'm a fan of using decals, but sticking them on a paper banner didn't work this time, so I had to redo it freehand. For an inexperienced hand I feel happy the way it turned out.

Up next will be 5 Grail Knights.

Kenneth's knights FOR THE LADY! (209 points)

The first month has passed and I'm still up and running. What started as an easy challenge turned out not so easy. I discovered that the horses and the banners takes more time than predicted. But now I know how to do it in a reasonable amount of time.

I started with three characters not only to practice and get the feel of painting cavalry but also January is is like a tarpit with still a lot of family obligations which absorb valuable painting time ;).

Next month will be two more characters. A BSB and a damsel because Februari is a typical mulligan month.

To be honest, .... if it weren't for the lady who would we do it for?

This OWAC I will change my attention towards these honorable warriors. They've gathered too much dust locķed away in a dark box. Time for them to shine.

Although this might be a colorful army, where every knight in itself has its own heraldry, I will go for a more unified look based on the colors of Flanders (where I'm living). Black and yellow with a hint of white and red.

This season I chose only cavalry models because OWAC2 was a disaster when I tried to go full infantry.

Ruerhl's January reinforcements (208 pts)

This months reinforcements contains 16 corsairs. 208 points in total. What first seemed to be an easy job turned out to be a race against the clock. From the start I pretended to have enough time until I realised there were only 6 days left. I feel like a noob making this mistake every time again. But I finished, so I'll probably do it again :) Painting infantry is time consuming but every army needs the numbers. I hope I can finish all the infantry, if not I might throw in some bolt throwers or characters.

Corsairs make a perfect addition to the warband of Lord Ruerhl. They fit in because of their ruthless attitude. Born to plunder, born to enslave, born to conquer. Just the kind of warriors to get the task done. The sight of seeing them disembark on your shores sends ripples of fear amongst the local residents (friend and foes alike). Where they appear malevolence follows in their wake.

Kenneth's Dark Elves (Lord Ruerhls reinforcements)

One year has already passed by and finally OWAC 2 has arrived and I'm part of the veteran squad. YEAH!

Enough bragging. This year I'm planning to enlarge Ruerhls host by another 1000 points (based on 4th edition) and all infantry. Finally some models that have been in my possession for far too long will receive the attention they deserve. A lot of models as you will see, so I hope to reach the finish and claim that second medal.

FINALLY! The soldiers were trained and ready for a serious fight now. After the first raid even more fighters joined the warband. More crossbowmen and warriors with shield proved their loyalty to Ruerhl.

With an arsenal of loyal soldiers to command he was ready for real conquest. His scouts were already reporting about a high elf town a few days away ....

Ruerhl's warhost 5 (225 points)

This time, during the shortest month of the year, I opted to paint just one model. A hydra. To be honest, painting something different than rank and file models, gave me the necessary motivation to continue this challenge.

I only recently aquired this model from e-bay that's why my original list was adapted. A Ral Partha model with some character and a way to field something that can suffer a beating (and survive to beat you back).

Next will be foottroopers again ;)

Kenneth's Ruerhl's warhost 4 (200 points)

While breaking up camp in search for some opportunities to hone the combat skills of his warhost, the pickets of the camp reported a dozen soldiers coming their way. Immediately, the witches prepped themselves for battle by praising Khaine and smearing themselves with blood.

When the soldiers came into view it was clear that they wore the colors of a local druchii house and posed no direct threat. Their weapons shouldered and quick marching toward Ruerhl's position in an organized military manner. At about 50 paces they halted.

"Identify yourself!", commanded Ruerhl.

"Lord Kaghath Deadarrow's city guard, my lord". "We are sent to prove Lord Kaghath's loyalty to the Witch King and Lord Ruerhl".

The name sounded familiar to Ruerhl but Druchii politics can be deadly if proven too weak, so he motioned the witches closer, ready to be sent at the inferior warriors.

"Prove your value, or else ..."

The elf that had spoken to Ruerhl commanded his detachment. "Guard formation!"

As a well oiled machine the warriors unshouldered their weapons. Some were armed with crossbows and some with spear and shield. Crossbows in front, spearmen in the back. Their shields protecting the whole detachment and spears protruding in front of them, preventing anyone to come too close.

Kenneth's Ruerhl's warhost 3 (229 points)

For more than 30 days Ruerhl waited until his scouts returned. During these days he studied the maps of the shorelines, looking for landing areas and easy prey. Those victims would never know what hit them and it would prove a good time to show how cruel he could be. Maybe he could find him some personal slaves too. Slaves are always good to improve your standing at the court of the Witchking.

Two days later a scout returned bringing with him a sorceror named Kurgot. "My Lord, word has gotten to me that you were in need of magical powers" Kurgot said. "Look no further and accept my aid. The dark arts that I possess are at your service".
"Prove that your words are true" demanded Ruerhl.
With a short incantation and a quick flick of his fingers Kurnot threw a lightning bolt from his hand, hitting and pulvirizing a nearby tree.
"Excellent. Join me and let's talk" asked Ruerhl. Knowing that a mighty sorceror is a fantastic ally. Better not upset him too soon.

Kenneth's Ruerhl's Warhost 2 (252 points)

So, 30 days to paint 7 models? Plenty of time ..... Ha!!! And then reality kicks in. I even warned you about being a slow painter :) And to make things even worse I found out the first days that color after color was dried up, so I had to get new ones. But it did work out and I managed to get things done before the deadline passed.

The general one cold one has a point value of 174 and the 6 scouts cost 78 points for a total of 252 points. Which is a bit above the 200 points limit but I'm all for painting units in one go.

I'm not really happy about the red tone on the clothes. I wanted it to be a little more purple-ish but the new pot of paint did not arrive yet at my house. You might notice the glossy varnish too. That's armypainter shade. I know, some of you don't like it, but it helps me to give some shading and to protect it during play.

Hello everyone, let me introduce myself.

I'm Kenneth Snelders, live near Antwerp in Belgium and hooked to Warhammer for almost 30 years now. 3th edition was in full motion back then and in my opinion that edition has miniatures with the most "character" (certainly compaired to 4th).

Dark Elves have been my first choice ever since, even through 5th and 6th were they were flimsy and way too expensive to field in battle. In 7th they were unbeatable and sometimes shoo-ed at at the local club. ;)

On the side I started collecting Brettonians, another army with flair, swung and panache ;) (probably my next project).
