Lissanne's Rainbow Warriors- Wildcard month! (724 pts) Tarkus!

Bet you weren't expecting a scratchbuilt baneblade this month!  Actually, this has been sitting around unpainted and in need of repair for decades. It is from the Baneblade pattern in that old White Dwarf.  I originally built it as a salvage vehicle/stage for my harlequins in 2nd edition, but the game went to 3rd before I could finish. Here are a couple mandatory progress pics of it after I repaired and primed it, first white then blue.

Since I won't play any Emperor loving troops, because he's a sexist dick,  there it sat.  Until I picked it up & dusted it off for my Rainbow Warriors. I decided to be somewhat faithful to my Harlequins, so the Tarkus paint job,  if I can ever use it as Harlequin salvage it will still fit!   And this falls under allied forces for the Rainbow Warriors, the Baneblade Tarkus!  And of course the turrets are fully mobile.

The Tarkus on one side is from the official alternate art used in the original ad copy BTW.  The other is from the Gatefold album cover.   I actually wanted to put more scenes from Tarkus on this and originally did, but it looked busy and muddy, so I did armor and rainbows instead.  I ended up painting that top turret 3 times, LOL!  I painted 2 different versions of Eruption, which is just too dark, so more rainbows!.

Also this month I did the last terminator I need for that Space Hulk list, Spitfire with a flamer, and a chainfist companion Purple Dart to fill out another squad for my 12 squad challenge.  Next month I will go down the actual list and show the finished terminators!   I actually have everything for the series of Space Hulk games now, and a few more besides!

Baneblade 634 pts  Tarkus with Party Cannon!
2 terminators  42 pts each    84 pts
flamer 6 pts

total 724pts

Also, a great sendoff for Pride Month, going out in style!

Lissanne's Rainbow Warriors- Rank & File #4 (460 pts) I can drive my very own Tank!

Well, my gallery show in April probably put a halt to me doing the proposed land raider during this OWAC (not to mention banners), so please accept this humble deodorant grav tank in its place as my Oldschool offering of the month. I had this lovely translucent deodorant container sitting about for years- I coated the inside blue and it looks killer, like it was airbrushed.  Here is the Grav tank Azure Sky.

I got through 7 of the terminators from the Space Hulk list, and sort of burnt out. But here are 7 more Wonderbolters.  I will do the last necessary terminator in Wild Card month (already started actually) and the big extravagance, and who knows what else?  Time will tell.  I tend to paint till the last week on Wild Card.month

Zipp Storm and Misty Fly

Fire Streak and Sun Chaser,  with the assault cannons

Star Hunter, Ribbon Sweet and Silver Zoom

So I switched to a squad of space marines I will need for the 12 squad challenge I am doing elsewhere. I got through 7, but for the other 3 I have to order more sisters heads, and they won't get here in time.  These are Stratus' Skyrangers, but the Stratus figure will have to come after this OWAC.

Sky Stinger, Angel Wings, Pink Pony, Sunburst

Mountain Haze, Sunbeam, Wildfire (with the Flamer)

And I retouched and rebased 3 of my previously done Rainbow Warriors, but they don't count for points

High Winds, Mane Moon, Cloud Kicker

So, this month:

7 Wonderbolters terminators 42 pt each  294pts
Extra weapons- flamer, chainfist, 2 assault cannons- 55pts
7 Stratus Skyrangers space marines- 15 pts each  105 pts
    Flamer- 6 pts
3 retouched/based older terminators 0 pts
Grav tank  0 pts (because it's not in 3rd edition,it's just cool)

Total 460 pts

The obligatory I found these marines picture prepainted.

And all of this month's figures!

And I found out my army does function as it's supposed to... off the tabletop.  I met my friend's child for the first time, visiting my house along with my friend.   He has now chosen to be a young man, and just finished his first year of college.   He saw my Rainbow Warriors, and excitedly said "Are those Gay Space Marines?".  I answered, " Yes, they are!"  then, "Would you like to learn to play Warhammer?"  "Yes" he said.  He will return to college in the fall,  and the ranks of 40K players grows.

Shine like Rainbows- Lissanne's 2nd legion Rainbow Warriors Rank and File #1 (462 pts)

Here come the Wonderbolters!

Surprise!
Last month I started out with a goal of doing the 24 Rainbow Warrior terminators needed to play an old series of Space Hulk games.  I have a few done, but it is a very specific list, and needs a lot of conversion.  And in addition do some normal marines and vehicles to bring it in line with OWAC rules.
But in the intervening month my mission statement has expanded.  Turns out I will be combining this challenge with a year long challenge to do 12 units for an single army (any era).  So I am starting with the space hulk units and old school marines plus whatever I can dig up.  And vehicles.  Lots of vehicles.  Whodda thunk it?  A legit Rainbow Warriors army instead of one just for Space Hulk.  And so it grows.

This month I decided to do 10 of the terminators when the OWAC is fresh, which should take pressure off the rest of the challenge.  I usually do a lot in January for that reason.  What was I thinking?  These are big complex models, even though I cherry picked the rank and file (storm bolter/power fist), avoided faces and most of the specials and conversions for this month. With blog and photography included, I just made it.  Whew!

But I have 2 Space Hulk squads now, a standard one to play with, and a less standard squad to start to fill that list.
These Second Legion  Rainbow Warriors are independent thinkers with a lot of personal iconography variations, heavy on wings, lightning bolts and stars (please don't call them cutie marks!).  As the marine is sitting in the suit, they come in big and bigger, with a corresponding amount of detail!  These are the Wonderbolters, and have MLP Wonderbolt names and a Pony theme will be running through this army.  And the personality and the personal icons of their namesake pony.  Not to mention that the Wonderbolt icon and Rainbow Warrior icon are identical!  Space Hulk terminators usually are deployed in squads of 5, 1 leader, 1 special, and 3 bolter & powerfist termies, who we will call normal.   Here are the 2 space hulk squads.

Whiplash and Fast Clip

Whiplash- lieutenant otherwise normal.
Fast Clip- normal Fast Clip & Whiplash always been in the same squad since they became marines.

Short Fuse and Starburst

Starburst- normal, great shot
Short Fuse-normal with legendary short temper

Crescent Moon the techmarine

Crescent Moon-Techmarine with bolter and auspex in the traditional (pale) red (Okay, it's pink)
Got tiny servo arms for the auspex too!

Since the list of scenarios call for 2 different Techmarines, and I don't know of any Terminator techmarines except for Iron Fathers and Warsmiths, I converted.  I will be converting the other one too.

Squad 2

Firefly

Firefly sargent with the beaky helmet and power sword leading

Fleetfoot, Rapid Fire and Cloud Chaser

Rapid Fire- normal opinionated timid novice, always been smallish
Fleetfoot- normal, first and fastest
Cloud Chaser-normal,  a nimble marine, quick to the rescue

Blaze

Blaze the Highly Decorated with Flamer hot temper too

Even though I avoided a lot of specialists, of which there are many on this list, it was still a rather hellish month.  These are big complicated figs, the list is very specific, and the appropriate models are often not available.  So a lot of conversions are necessary, and those take time.

And there are a lot of rainbows on the back.

And how do I keep track of the names?

points
10 Terminators- 42 pts each
Servo arm and Auspex +32 pts
Flamer +10 pts
total 462 pts

So... my new bright idea- the Vehicle of the month club, I love scratch building vehicles, so in each Rank and file month there will be a new vehicle or two + whatever figs I get done.  I'm not worried about points, and I will probably get a squad done anyway,  but the vehicle every month obeys the letter of the OWAC rules, and will allow me take my time and do a nice job with my special termies.  Which is the whole point of this challenge to me.
