Kenneth's Knights FOR THE LADY!!!

To be honest, .... if it weren't for the lady who would we do it for?

This OWAC I will change my attention towards these honorable warriors. They've gathered too much dust locķed away in a dark box. Time for them to shine.

Although this might be a colorful army, where every knight in itself has its own heraldry, I will go for a more unified look based on the colors of Flanders (where I'm living). Black and yellow with a hint of white and red.

This season I chose only cavalry models because OWAC2 was a disaster when I tried to go full infantry.

What I choose to paint:

Brendan's First Army Update of Skaven

First up, I’m very excited to be part of the Old World Army Challenge.  I will admit that I was spying on everyone last year as I had two friends, James and Brennan, participating in the fun.  I also became very jealous as I watched their undead army and Slaan develop over the first half of the year.  So needless to say, I was hooked.  I wanted in.

Picking Skaven was easy for me as they were my first love in Warhammer.  Something about their character really appealed to me.  The huddled masses, the backstabbing internal politics, the cowardly leadership of the bunch was just too good.  Besides, they saved the world be killing Nagash, so they are certainly heroes in my mind.

I started collecting Skaven when I was 12 years old and eventually sold them off to fund and try out different armies.  Years later I collected them a second time and then true to form sold them off to fund a different army.  Now, I’m much older and just looking at the great 

models from my childhood hit me right in the feels. So I thought I would try to theme a 1000 point army. I would go with Clan Moulder, and take a bunch of rat creatures.


My current idea is the following:

Skaven Warlord (90)

Warplock Master (190)

Since it is clan Moulder, I figured Throt the Unclean would be a fitting warlord, while Ikit Claw was one of my favorite looking mages from years past. He will just serve as my Warplock Master

4 pack masters and 24 giant rats (100)

Clan rats should be the backbone of any army, but I felt that giant rats would be more fitting as a troop choice. I may finagle the points and try and pick up another unit of giant rats as they are super cheap, but look pretty good for my theme.

3 pack masters and 6 rat ogres (288)


I've always loved rat ogres and when I played as a kid could never afford a big unit of them. So why not now?!

20 clan rats with hand weapon and shields (180)

I have a mix of old and new here. I'm trying hard to find ten more metal Skaven at a reasonable price to replace the plastic ones. So they will be painted later in the competition to bide me some time.

1 warpfire thrower team (70)

We know where the real strength of any Skaven army lies...

1 rat swarm (50)

I would love two units of rat swarms as they add more character to clan Moulder, but they get more expensive in points if I don't have enough clanrats. So one unit will have to do.

Sybou's Daemons army - challenge 2020

Hello everyone,

here we are back for this year challenge. I progressed enough on my undeads army of 2019 and i'm planning to finish it for 2020, in parralel of my 2020's army: the daemons.

In the old days, daemons weren't really a by itself army, they were just part of the global chaos army but I had a lots of daemons, that I was willing to take care of them.

Rulewise, I migh meet some problems.

I tried to base my points army on the Lost And The Damned but as I was scrolling through the rules, i saw this:

Plaguebearer's points cost.

The plaguebearers cost 600 pts for 7. I was going to finish my Owac in 1 month...

So pointswise, i'll try to base myself on the V4 or V5, but I'll still need to find the data.

But the most important parts are miniatures and here they are:

A unit of 18 plaguebearers. I still to find a musician for them. They're a bunch of several eras. I will surely try to start with them.

6 swarms of nurglings. These little buggers are classics with fun sculpts. I tried to make some silly sceneries with them.

A beast of nurgle, a great banner and a chaos harpy/ spawn. These last one might be the only "slaaneshy" part of the army. I ll try to put a slaanesh chariot if i can find in time two slaanesh mounts.

Khorne's doggoes! Just 5 of them, ready to hunt wizards and warmachines.

19 bloodletters and a Khorne Herald. Dechala, here will be named Dechala the treacherous one. She betrayed Slaanesh and joined Khorne's rank.

Finally, a 18 horrors team led by a Herald. This guy is named The Exiled One. Originary from the Elemental plan, this Air Elemental did contestable acts which led the Elemental Crown to exile him to the Chaos Realm. Here, found by Tzeentch, he became a chaos champion.

That would be my army for this year. I'll add a Daemon Prince to lead them all and possibly a great unclean one and a Slaanesh chariot.

Jeff McC's Wood Elves - Intro

After 2 years of dark elves, it's time to turn back to the light, so I'll be doing wood elves this year.   The list comes in at 1067 points, to make sure I meet the 1000 point challenge.  If I were fielding this as a 1000 point army I'd leave out the beastmaster and wild cats to get me back under 1000.

So what are we looking at here?

Army general - Level 15 Hero with Spear, Shield and Light Armor riding an Eagle - 208 pts.

12 Wood Riders with Longbows and a standard - 338 pts.

14 Archers lead by a Level 10 hero with a Longbow - 154 and 91 pts. respectively.

6 Wardancers - 120 pts.

5 Glade Runners - 80 pts.

Beastmaster and 3 Wild Cats - 76 points

These elves will be reinforcements for the wood elf army I took to BOYL 2, so they'll have the same autumnal color palette, and I'll be trying very hard to match what I did before, since I ended up changing paint lines when I returned from the UK.

I've put together a painting plan, to keep me steady at 200 a month without overloading any one month too badly.  I've numbered them months 1 - 5 but I'm not sure which order I'll actually do them in.

Glade Runners and Wardancers - 200 pts.

Month 3

Archer Hero, Beastmaster, 4 Wood riders - 208pts.

Month 4 

4 Wood Riders, Wild Cat, 8 Archers - 213 pts.

3 Wood Riders, Wood Rider Standard Bearer, 2 Wild Cats, 6 Archers - 238 pts.

Jesse's Undead Horde

This is my first year in the OWAC and my first time painting an army. I have painted a man o war fleet and a bloodbowl team before but that is the limit of my painting experience.

I had a number of possible projects (wood elves, chaos, empire or dwarfs) but undead seemed the easiest because you didn't have to paint skin tones.

My army is as follows:

Deathmage (level 15 liche & general)

23 Skeleton Warriors with standard, musician, light armour and shields

18 Skeleton Warriors with standard, musician, light armour, shields & spears

Stone Thrower with screaming skull ammunition

A couple of cheap magic items and this will be a 1500 point army!

Lissanne's Undead- It's a Dead Man's Party

'It's a Dead Man's Party, who could ask for more?'

After saying I would never do undead, here I am doing undead.  I am not much of a WF player, but I find myself with a bunch of Warhammer Quest, Zombies of Karr-keel, and gifts from friends that need painting, and lo and behold I have a undead army.  Throw in a couple of old figs (like that undead war rhino) that need re-painting, and it is a pretty good-looking army.  Oh, and did I mention I have hundreds of sprue skeletons given to me to do painting demos? (only 15 yrs old, but what the hey? Everything else is old or oldschool) I already primed the ones I will use in this force.

The main reason I chose undead was to FINALLY do my WQ Catacomb of Terror figurines after lo, many decades.  And I based everything on NPC's in our D&D game, because, double duty.  So the lich Dirge and her retinue will be the command. A lich 20, two level 15 undead heros, and a level 10 Necromancer.  These match the levels of the D&D NPC's they are patterned after.  Oh, there's a zombie in that set too, and I'm adding Dirge's undead dog courtesy of Karr-kell.

This will be a 3rd edition force, but I am not going to paint graveguard.  I already have a lot of Heroquest grave guard if I ever get the urge to field an 3rd edition undead WHF army.  They are seen here with the 60 skeletons I will be painting.  I can only have 30 spearmen, so I will only count the spear points for 30. But they all have shields, and each group of 20 has matching ones!

 I also have way too many mummies from Heroquest, etc.  So none of them either. But...

There will be an ethereal host of 3 Reaper Wraiths. This is my Zombie Helper.  Wraiths are not difficult to do a killer paint job on, and are worth 150 pts a pop.  Zombies of Karr-kell, which I love and want to do bang up jobs on, are more difficult, and worth, well, nothing much (4pts, I think)  So Zombie Helper.

I have an undead Grenadier rhino I have stripped (it was started) and will be calling a plague cart, as it is carrying people inside it.  I also have a half completed Grenadier skeletal dragon, but will strip and post that if I get to it.

 (that WQ chair will probably be carried on a Palanquin of Skeletons (removable) as befits a powerful lich)

AdamH’s decent into furry madness (i.e. this year I’m doing Skaven)…

Well well well, we find ourselves here again, or at least I do.

While I thoroughly enjoyed last year’s challenge, Bretonnians were never an army I felt particularly strongly about. To a certain extent I was mostly going through the motions as I painted them and after getting a few games in with them after the challenge ended I don’t find myself drawn to their play style either. So that is why when the challenge ended I started thinking about what I would like to tackle next year should I take part again.

My first thoughts were Chaos Dwarfs, I have a full army of the old big hat guys ready to paint, plus their background is interesting and the models are dripping with character. However honestly speaking their slow playstyle combine with ranged weapons isn’t really my cup of tea either. So while I would be excited to paint the models I would probably be less excited to get them on the table.

Which left me with the other army I have that needs painting, and also happens to be the army that got me into Warhammer in the first place; Skaven.

The trouble with this is while I love everything about the army, from the awesome models, variation of the units, unique background and the wacky playstyle their major downside (at least as far as the challenge is concerned) is the low point cost of the models. I am not a fast painter by any standards and the thought of doing between 10 and 20 models a month fills me with dread. That said I guess it wouldn’t be a ‘challenge’ if it wasn’t challenging so I am going to give it a try.

Onto the list, I'm going to be building this army for WFB 5th Edition with points taken from the Skaven Army book of the same edition. As per the challenge rules the army is planned to be at least 1000pts with magic items not included:

I have built the army to contain most of the units I like from the book, although to be honest I like them all so these are just the units I want to paint first I guess. I have tried to make the army well rounded with a bit of everything although it makes me sad I don’t have any Clan Moulder in there so that might change as I go through the challenge. I am slightly over the points I need for the challenge, mainly because I aim to paint each month (i.e. no mulligan) plus if I can, paint a few more than the required 200 points each month.

I have almost all of the models I need although there are a couple I am still hunting for (another Warpfire Thrower, a Gutter Runner and maybe a different Plague Priest model). Anyway onto the detailed pictures!
