Nathan’s Ogres

Well another year and another challenge. After significant procrastination and uncertainty I finally decided to paint up an ogre mercenary contingent for this years challenge. In the end what clinched that for me was a couple of points none of my other options (wood elves and orcs) had:

  1. Painting ogres will enable me to finish off all the ogre figures I have collected since I got back into oldhammer in the early 2000s (yep it is that long ago);
  2. I have a really eclectic group of figures which will be fun to paint. Sculptors like Jes Goodwin and Aly Morrison are well known and I have a few of their figures in my list. But I also have a number of figures from the hands of Bob Olley and Nick Lund which I’m really looking forward to painting; and
  3. The small number of figures required (each ogre being worth 2 foot troops) should be manageable. With that in mind I’m adding in some old blood bowl ogres that Bob and Jes did for fun. Finish those and I have an old school ogre team for blood bowl!
Anyway here they are:

Nick Lund ogres

Aly Morrison ogres

Bob Olley ogres

Jes Goodwin ogres

And last but not least here is my offering for our benevolent overlord - a Bob Olley ogre that was done for the Fantasy Warlord game (Folio works minis) around 1991:

I'll include a weapon for this guy but won't attach it; nor will I do the base. That way one could base him up and add a weapon as an ogre or ogryn. Or add a standard as I have done with the other one I had :).

  1. Bonus variety points, the standard bearer on the right of the Jes Goodwin ogres is by Gary Morley.

    Looking forward to seeing the Nick Lund ogres painted, they're not figures you see every day.

    1. I didn’t think the banner bearing ogre was a Jes figure. I quite like him TBH - fits in with the marauder ogres I have painted over the years.

  2. Bringing the big boys out to play...very nice.

  3. Such a cool project!! You WILL have a lot of fun.

    That offering is one of my fav, great paintjob and I definitely think I'm adding a banner, he's ginna fit right in my (bannerless) unit of Ogres.
