Rank & File #2
Here I come with another month, but prepare to be struck not with a hurricane, but with Striking Scorpions. Yes, I know I'm not supposed to use an opening picture other than my models, but I just can't help myself...
Continuing with squads this month I moved on to a unit that has been the bane of my imperial guard's existence. Striking scorpions. Sadly I have always had to face them in their ugly black undercoat, but now when I give them back to my friend they can crush me in their new green paint job!
These guys took a long time to paint and I forgot how much edge highlighting there are on these models. I think a lot more than the Fire Dragons I did last month. Still, I am very pleased with how they came out.
There were three different poses which was a bit refreshing from the fairly mono poses of the Fire Dragons. You could even dare say these models are certainly "striking a pose."
The squad leader was fun to paint too. I thought about painting the claw hand a different color but opted to keep it green.
Overall I am happy with the way they turn out. Hopefully I won't cry too much when the models I painted have turned on me to kill my precious guardsmen.
Unit of ten Striking Scorpions including Exarch: 260
Like the green, very dark and sinister, well done sir
ReplyDeleteDude. Nice work on the helmets. It’s kinda like a shield. They need to stand out.
ReplyDeleteYas! The helmets are great - are they airbrushed? Great job all round!
ReplyDeleteYes they are airrushed!
DeleteThese are great! Go Team Eldar!
ReplyDeleteGo team Eldar!
DeleteThe green and bone is a classic combo. Fantastic painting.
ReplyDeleteNice. Always better to be defeated by a stylish opponents, good luck with your guard. ;)
ReplyDeleteTeam Eldar!
Go team Eldar!
DeleteBases, faces, blades. Perfection. I especially like how you draw the whole colour scheme down to the base, that's very underrated that is. I don't think an "arty" paint job is complete without it.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteLovely unit. Any chance to have on next posts a group pic to see how the army grows up?
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'll try and remind myself to dig them all out for a group pick!
DeleteThanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteCool unit, love 'em in that dark green tone.
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me that I should look for my scorpion exarch and paint it, after twenty years infiltrated elsewhere in its black primer camo
Striking Scorpions were always my favourite Aspect Warriors and luckily I've never had to face them on the field of battle! I hadn't realised they'd updated the classic Jes Goodwin sculpts so interesting to see the "newer" miniatures. You've done a great job with those greens - I'm not sure I'd want to return them to their previous owner if I were you!
