Richard's The End of the Line

This is the last month that I'm going to be posting my stuff as part of the OWAC. After last months Mulligan I've made fair progress on the Dwarfs, another 11 Clansman, ignoring that there are 2 standards in there, and the Battle Wright, with his Champion Consort and his personal banner bearer.  I also made progress on the Stone Thrower proxy, until I realized that points are for the crew not the machine in WHFB3, only 30 not the 108 I was thinking it was. Some of these aren't quite done done, so this is what would have been, not what is.

So this months total would have been:
1x Dwarf Battle Wright Shield, Heavy Armour, for 197 points

1x Dwarf War Forger (Champion Consort)  Shield, Heavy Armour for 132 points

1x Dwarf Foe Smiter (BSB) Shield, Heavy Armour for 102 points

12x Dwarf Clansmen including Champion, Standard and Musician, Shield, Heavy Armour, Hand Weapon for 190 points

1x 6 Man Stone Thrower (proxy) (no crew yet) for 30 points.

Mulligan, Schmulligan

So December began with a plan, an easy one to reach the 200 points of necessary dwarfs. I had done 16 of the Clansmen for November so merely finishing that unit would get me past the 200. I had time off from the 22nd, what could go wrong?

I had assumed that I'd get about half the unit finished before Christmas and the remainder after that.

So here is a list of things not to do instead of painting 12 dwarfs, a musician and a standard bearer:

1) Reorganize your workspace completely, adding table space and redoing all the shelves. Necessary, and very useful, but took too long,

2) Decide that the dragon that you dropped in November needed to be fixed and put on a more stable base first. Necessary before any bits got lost, and the fact that a dragon stole time from the dwarfs is symbolic.

Can I claim him as an Emperor Dragon?

3) Change plans. Deciding that I was short of time and that the artillery might be a better investment points wise was a good idea, unfortunately I didn't check it's point value, only 108, not the closer to 200 that I had in mind when I started it. I also then decided the initial colour scheme was a bad one, needs redoing.

4) Decide that taking and processing 450 shots of miniatures and publishing them on the web won't take long. 

5) Curse the Republicans for changing the tax laws. Realize that charitable donations needed to sorted in 2017. Spend a day driving round to donate a recent dining room table and eight chairs being told that they only take perfect chairs without scratches. Doesn't anybody recover anything these days?

6) Get sick. Never recommended, but wasting two days basically lying around doing no painting didn't help.

7) Change plans twice more. Given that I needed at least 8 dwarfs to go with the "stone thrower" and I had 4 done, bar the shouting... decide to do the General for 197 points and cheat (in my mind) by claiming that as a month's work. I then spent too long deciding which guy would be the best General (front left) only realizing too late that I had already done him last month. Think that a female General would be fun (front centre), and would annoy a few people, but then having finished her, decide she was too plain to be the General, even with a  puritanical back story. Pick another model (front right) and do that, then realize that his shield boss had been cut off and it would take too long to fabricate another before dinner on New Years Eve.

At least I have a heads start of January, February and some of March.

Richard's Dwarf Host- November 208 Pts

After the OldHammer in Da Jerz event I had 8 mostly painted Dwarfs, and have since found the time to do another 8 for a total of 16 for 13x16 = 208 points. The plan for this unit is that it will only consist of 1980s vintage Perrys sculpted Dwarfs, ultimately Norse, but a bit of a mixture of Norse, Adventurers and Imperials for now.

The starting point is a large batch of painted dwarfs that I acquired over 15 years back, painted using a thinned paint over white with some washes and some black lining, a lot of pen work. Nice in their day, but now chipped, and hopelessly desaturated, time for a refresh. Here's three more waiting their turn for a facelift.

Lovejoy's (Richard) Orcs & Goblins

Hello, Lovejoy here (Richard C - Orcs & Goblins).

There will now follow an at times discursive (some might say tedious) recap of my gaming history, so feel free to skip down to The Army section if you can feel your insides going grey at the prospect.

I have a few names online I suppose, but Lovejoy is my gaming moniker. It was chosen because of my fondness for the be-mulleted 1980s BBC TV character, a loveable, leather-jacket-wearing antique trader, rogue and philanderer. Ian McShane played the role, and Lovejoy was often portrayed sprinting across a bored housewife's lawn stuffing his manhood into his stonewashed jeans as a suspicious husband's range rover swept up the gravel drive, or else Lovejoy was passing off a fake Edwardian commode as genuine. I suppose the Lovejoy name is pretty relevant for me, as it says a lot about my nostalgic attitude to life as I get older. Like myself, Lovejoy delighted in old stuff which not all could appreciate. Like me, he was a collector of sorts, or at least an appreciator of beautiful objects. Like myself, the character was terminally stuck in the past. For me, it seems that my favorite stuff in life, as in gaming was better in the old days. The good stuff is largely old and gone, and I am given to misty eyed reminiscence over the past. Retro telly, music, and games - especially games...yes, I am Lovejoy. But I digress. Let's get on with it.
