Adrian's eldars - Iyanden is un-doomed (Wrap-up)

Wrap-up post!

Another OWAC, another troop removed from the pile of shame.

It was a fun project. From painting to create the scenes and write some stories accompanying the updates. It was less stressful than the orc and goblins except for some odd months. However, this time having a job a constrained schedule felt a lot in the planned "extras". Maybe in a future coming back to Iyanden I can add the terrain from the Tyranid invasion or some scattered details from the craftwold gardens.

Painting yellow may seems a bit tedious sometimes but the experience of years collecting eldars and the mix of models I selected made the task a much easier.

I enjoyed the pirates a lot with the mixture of armour colors, one of my favourite units of this challenge. Also I can finally claim my small achievement, completed the unit of eldar exodites after so long. Some of the eldar scouts and wood elf wardancers were purchased in blisters, and the cold ones were the ones from their very first release!

The Doom of the Eldar has not been my personal doom, I finished another OWAC! It has been so much pleasure to paint it as to show them to you all. Hope I get my hand in some units and can continue this project in a future OWAC.

Oh, remember the last year when I lost a goblin for the last set of pictures and found it after the recap post? I have made the same mistake with my wraithlord bright lance. I had it in my hand the other day!!

See you in the next challenge.

Lissanne's Eldar- Is that All there is?

Defense of the Maiden World Wrap up Post

Well, my fourth OWAC is in the books.  I can't say it gets any easier, but careful planning helps.  This time around I did more figures for my already huge Eldar army, choosing mostly the type of figures who I had done none of, and were languishing unpainted in the lead pile.  Now they join their friends and neighbors in the active fighting force.

Since I am poor at group photos, I will show recap photos.

Month 1:  Brown Recluse Squad- 10 Scouts/Rangers

Month 2: Brown Recluse Squad- 5 Scouts/Rangers, Black Widow Shrine- 4 Warp Spiders 1 Warp Spider Exarch

Month 3: Black Widow Shrine- 4 Warp Spiders 1 Warp Spider Exarch, Fire Wasp shrine - 4 Fire Dragons led by Warp Spider Exarch

(I may have the same warp spider squad twice in the photos, but there are two squads.  Can't tell, LOL!)

Month 4:  Dragonfly squadron-4 Exodites and Exodite Champion

Month 5: Worldsinger Yavanna

Month 6:  Space Pirates and Tempest!

These are nearly all things I have wanted to paint for a few years or a few decades (mostly a few decades), but keep putting off!  The only thing I had painted before was Fire Dragons.  I have LOTS of Fire Dragons, I like Fire Dragons.  But Hooray for OWAC and new forces!

What will I do next OWAC?  Hmmmm....I have a potential army already put to the side, but half the time my actual army choice has been a happy surprise, so I will leave the final choice for the future.
And as always, thanks to our benevolent overlord, and thanks to the other competitors for urging everyone onward! If that's all there is, let's keep dancing! On to the next OWAC!

Adrian's Eldars - The Witch and the Dragon (445 points)

Rank and File month #3

The deepest parts of the Forest saw skirmishes erupting here and there. The swarm was advancing and the eldar line could not wistand the numbers much longer. Pockets of resistance from the guardians and shrines of aspect warriors tried to maintain safe routes for the incoming withdraw.

But the tide shall be halted or else the Eldar could not get to the rearguard.

Among the oldest trees, some of them seen the ancient soils of the Inner Planets of the Eldar Empire, everything came to an unnerve silence.
When the swarm was crossing the deepest forest, the unnatural scream came from all directions.

-Lets burn them.

Hundreds of melta bombs annihilated the first wave of biomorphs and the scouting creatures ahead of the main horde. From the flames came the witches screaming and slicing the monsters like butter. And then the dragons came covering them with flaming rays, disintegrating any tyranid than could get beyond the dance of swords of the Howling Banshees.

----------

Third month ready. I have been experimenting with heavy glazing and seesh, for a moment I thought I would get the Mulligan. However, at the last minute I saw Lissanne incredible fire dragons and I could not falther now that Team Eldar is posting such awesome pics.

First and foremost, the banshees

7x Howling Banshees - 189 points

1x Exarch - 69 points

I wanted the armour resemble the second iteration of Jain Zar from the Eavy Metal team in the 3rd ed. Eldar Codex. That pearly grey was awesome.

Harder than I thought and took more time that I originally intended, but I am more than pleased with the result.

The swords and the axe follow the traditional red for energy weapons with a bit of nmm spice added to the mix.

4x Fire Dragons - 112 points

1x Exarch - 75 points

These boys are hot. At this point you'll want to see another take to the fire dragons, but no! there is plenty more orange in the Team Eldar pots. Non-orange dragons for another owac, sorry.

I forgot to draw the aspect rune in the helmets but I had little time left this month. Maybe I will add them at some point.

Lastly, the moment of truth, this month we reduce the quota to only 381 gemstones painted.

Lissanne's Eldar - I bring you Hellfire! (376 pts)

Defense of the Maiden World part 3
(rank and file #3)

This will have probably been the hardest month of the challenge for me, 10 Aspect Warriors with two of them being that difficult Warp Spider exarch.  But I made it through!

First up, another squad from the Black Widow shrine of Warp Spiders. 4 Warp Spiders led by one of those Warp Spider Exarchs.

And a squad of 4 Fire Dragons of the Fire Wasps shrine led by the other Warp Spider Exarch.  Hooray for 2nd edition!  Any exarch can lead any unit of Aspect Warriors!

I've painted a lot of Fire Dragons in my life and I think these came out the best yet- they are certainly my favorites!  I thought the Warp spiders had a lot of gems, these have 47 +18 gems more on the sides of the helmet each!

So....

Black Widow shrine
4  Warp Spiders 164 pts
Warp Spider Exarch 50 pts

Fire Wasps
4 Fire Dragons   112 pts
Warp Spider Exarch 50 pts

total 376 pts

That is all the reinforcements coming throught the gate- Next up, more native forces- the Exodites!

And here is the obligatory midway picture with all I have done so far- 15 scouts, 11 Warp Spiders and 4 Fire Dragons.

Brendan's Super Hot Eldar (305 points)

Brendan's Fire Dragons to Warm Up January (305 points)

Rank and File month #1

I started this month off painting some fire dragons.  All I can say is that orange is really hard to paint!  I even thought I was being smart by base coating them all gray before I began.  Nope, still too dark.  After many light applications I was able to build up to a color that at least resembles orange-ish!

I then realized that I was out of yellow paint as I was planning on making the helmets that color.  Apparently nothing with this unit was going to plan.  I substituted gold instead and I think that it came out looking pretty good.  A happy accident if you will.

All the poses are pretty similar with this batch of ten, but they were still fun to paint.  I really enjoyed the exarch of the bunch as well and he is certainly ready to socially distance with that 6' fire pike.

This completes my first *troops* selection for the challenge.  9 Fire Dragons clock in at 252 points and an exarch is 50 points for a grand total of 302 points.  Wow those guys are pricey.  I'm happy to be part of #TeamEldar for this year's challenge!

Lissanne's Eldar 2nd edition- Defense of the Maiden World- Intro Post

This time I am getting to do my favorite- Eldar!  2nd edition, doing some troop types I have wanted to do for a loooong time!  The theme is Defense of the Maiden World, with the Craftworld reinforcements coming through a warp gate.

Reinforcements:

 The Black Widow Shrine
2 squads of 5 warp spiders with exarch                     428

The Fire Wasps Shrine
4 fire dragons lead by warp spider exarch               162

Native forces:

15 Eldar scouts                                                   345

5 exodite knights                                                180

40 figs in total                                                    1115

plus leader farseer (plus surprise)            1        200       1315 pts

Extra maybe 5 harleys on 2nd edition jetboards depending on time.  Before and after photos for farseer plus and anything not here will be posted later.

I have never done scouts, exodites OR Warp Spiders!  I added the Fire Dragons due to squad size/restrictions, I was just intending to do new units.  And I am planning to do a classic webway portal for the extra month.

My Overlord offering is a painting of the winning general as a prize, so later!  Awaiting the starting gun!

Adrian's Doom of the Eldar - Introduction

The darkest hour of Iyanden is approaching… our enemy is unavoidable. The high command is planning the defence of the craftworld.

[The exarch rised the eyes from the holomap]

What will happen if the enemy tries to cut-off the main lines to the webway portal. We must secure a path for the reinforcements, if our allies come to help us...

[Farseer Kelmon pointed to the south west dome in the map]

The easiest point to defend will be at the entrance to the halls of the House Delgari, in the Forest of Sorrows. There, farseer Ylshor will deploy his troops in layers. The fleet will assist us and force a tyranid landing far from the city, at the glades and the other side of the Forest.

If the swarm override the troops near the glades, the shrines and the ghost warriors will come to halt their advance and give us time to regroup near the city.

The battle will be difficult, but our troops are prepared. They shall not falther, no matter how numberless are their foes. We will resist.

Hi again.

This is my second OWAC and I am glad to participate again in this exciting challenge. After last year orc horde I will try something different in this edition.

First of all, I will include a short story for the different units and advance both the paiting and a little piece of lore for my force in each round.

The second and more importan, bright colours for everyone! From the grim and dark tones of my orc army to bright and saturated colours of Iyanden. I am more used to the latter, so not a big deal in that regard.

Now, the upcoming units:

Holding the first defence line, a unit of 10x Guardian with lasguns (110 points) and a Plasma gun in a grav platform (59 points). Amazing and underrated sculpts, now that I have the entire unit.

A fierce unit of 9x Dire Avengers (198 points) and their Exarch with power sword (56 points)

When the enemy is up and close, they will be met by a unit of 7x Howling Banshees (189 points) and their Exarch (69 points).

If any bug is left, they will be roasted by 4x Fire Dragons (112 points) and an Exarch with the Firepike (75 points).

Fear not their behemoths, the heroine Kelrye piloting a mighty (temporarily headless) eldar wraith dreadnought (190 points) is watching.

A bit of spoilers ahead, the call for help does reach to their allies, and a unit of 9x pirates (135 points) commanded by the veteran captain Avele Swifteye (31 point) will show up.

For the wildcard month, the wildest allies emerge from the webway portal to help the defenders: a unit of 4x Exiled Dragon knights (152 points) commanded by Exiled veteran lord Calsaar Firebreath (50 points).

The army is commanded by farseer Ylshor (170 points)

But he’s not alone, because the Phoenix Lord Maugan Ra (179 points) himself and his retinue of 3x Dark Reapers (268 points) and an Exarch (90 points) came to the rescue in the direst moments of the battle.

The army has a total of 2074 points, which seems huge but in the end they are 59 miniatures. Much lesser than last year orc army which was barely 1000 points!. Will see if it is too much to handle or I can get everything in time!

Last, but not least, my offering to our beloved Overlord (this year finished in time! hurrah!)

The poor Eoan Fireheart who is about to be nomed...

See you in the first month. Adrian’s out.
