Mustafa’s GSC and Nids. Total so far 1029 points (66 points)

I’m an idiot who doesn’t know how to read a calendar, so thought I had one more day to polish off a few last bits. Obviously not, so this month’s lot will be quite meagre. While it is 10 minis, it’s a bit weak in regards to points.

I think I just managed to squeeze this in (surely it’s still April somewhere on the planet!), so here’s what got done in April :)

We have 10 Termagants, and one of them has a strangleweb. That’s a whopping 66 points of fury!

As with the rest of the army, I wanted to see what could get done with juts washes and drybrushes. Mucky and desaturated is the style of choice for these lads.

AdamH's Tyranids - In the jungle, welcome to the jungle! [Wrap-up post]

Well, that’s it, another challenge is in the bag. I think like a lot of challengers I find that the work I get done during these six months are by far the most productive I am throughout the year, and in fact since joining the OWAC three years ago I have painted more models than the previous 25 years in the hobby.

Anyway, here is my ugly face and my even uglier kitchen (we have recently moved, it is getting re-modelled soon), both of which I have tried to offset by the inclusion of my fluffy painting companion:

So the thing I like most about this army is the cohesive nature of it all, I feel it really does look like a swarm and despite the various bright colours they all seem to work together:

I am also shocked with how many I managed to get done, out pacing my original goals and the overlord’s minimum requirements:

I still have plenty more Nids in the box awaiting painting, I may do them for a future OWAC as it would be nice to have a fuller force and be able to field all of the available units:

So what about next year I don’t hear you ask; well I haven’t 100% decided but I am leaning heavily towards a sexy group of demon ladies. However, I do have several other forces in dire need of painting: Chaos Dwarfs, 2nd Ed Necrons, more Skaven, more Brets, and of course more Nids. I think I will mull it over until the end of the year however will continue prepping all of the forces just in case one of them takes my fancy.

But until then my dear readers, I hope you have enjoyed this year’s challenge as much as I know all of us have. And Sam, I’m coming for you buddy! your puny Arnie rejects are going to be biomass soon enough!

AdamH's Tyranids - We are the people that can find whatever you may need (267 Points)

Well, this is it, here we are at the final hurdle. This month represents the final required month of painting to complete the challenge and is the last of the models from my opening post.

Rank and File Month#4

Unfortunately, there isn’t anything too exciting, we have more of what we have seen before only slightly differently armed.

I will start with the vanilla Termagants with no upgrades:

Next we have three more Warriors, two of which are armed with the standard swords, the other with a Barbed Strangler:

And here they are as a group:

This month’s Rank and File submission is as follows:

UNIT

EXTRAS

TOTAL

Tyranid Warrior Brood (55)

Barbed Strangler (24)

3

195

Termagant Brood (6)

I am starting to work on something that I hope will be a little special for next month. Any of you that have followed my previous challenge entries know that I like to go out with a bang and this year is no different!

Until then however, hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the challenge so far, I know I am 😊

AdamH's Tyranids - We've got fun and games (230 Points)

We are back again with more bright red, second edition alien gribblies!

Rank and File #2

So, this month was more of the same really, more termagants painted in the same style as last month's entry, however armed with different weapons, Spike Rifles:

Emboldened by my previous month's success I decided to add a few extra models on top of my original plans. I find that the most difficult thing I encounter when painting is settling on a scheme, once I have that down I can break the steps down into blocks and batch paint my way through units fairly easily. Therefore, adding models that follow my established scheme is pretty easy, thus I present to you the first of my surprise additions this month; a Biovore and three Spore Mines:

Finally, I have the first of what I consider "the advanced organisms" within the hive fleet. For certain models I plan to introduce blue as gradients over the parts of the model that I consider to be defining features. The first of these I painted this month:

As you can see the top half of the model here has that blue gradient, implying that the back claws/blades and the head (i.e., intelligence) are mutations or improvements that the lictor has over the rest of the swarm. Not sure if it really conveys that message as a model on its own but hopefully when you see some of the other models I use this technique it will make sense. I guess at worst case the blue breaks up the tide of red and makes for a slightly more interesting force to look at on the tabletop.

This month’s Rank and File submission is as follows:

Next month will be comprised entirely of new models (so no more Termagants for a while) including another new one not listed in my original target force.

There are some great forces coming together so far in the challenge with a crazy high standard of painting this year. Special shout out to Tom's Bad Moon Orks, he put out some amazing models this month so great job!

AdamH’s Tyranids – Welcome to the jungle! (350 pts)

After a bit of a shaky start where I struggled to find the theme I wanted to go with this army I managed to settle into a rhythm this month. Like a couple of other challengers, I too like to start with a good chunk of core units/squads to really get an idea of how the theme comes together over a group of models.

The minimum for a core month submission is ten models but my broods are all 12 models each, plus you can’t have those naughty termagants running around unsupervised so this month is a bumper crop of fifteen, three of which are large models so would probably count as two each!

Rank and File month #1

First up we have those mischievous Termagants, each armed with a Strangleweb:

Pretty basic 2nd edition scheme going on here, the red is a little more highlighted that comes across in the pictures. The bone carapace looks good on the smaller models but I am a little concerned about how it will look on something larger like the Hive Tyrant.

The green and purple used on the weapons will be carried throughout the force to help further unify them and make them seem like they are all created from the same biomass.

Finally the bases, I used aquarium plants that were trimmed and re-shaped with scissors to reduce the size. I have quite a few different colours but wanted to make sure it was predominantly green again to make the force feel unified.

Next up we have the Tyranid Warriors, one of which is armed with a Venom Cannon:

Same scheme as the Termagants but I tried to give a NMM or glass effect look to the Boneswords, not sure how well it turned out but it was the first time I have tried anything like it so I’m happy with what I ended up with. Some slightly larger plants on the bases this time along with some purple ones to try and tie that colour together.

So this month my Rank and File submission is:

UNIT

EXTRAS

#

TOTAL

Tyranid Warrior Brood (55)

Venom Cannon (33)

3

206

Termagant Brood (6)

Strangleweb (6)

12

144

                   TOTAL

350

Next month will be more Termagants and maybe something a little bigger, and sneakier… plus a new technique for me so wish me luck!

And as always, best of luck to the rest of the challengers, especially to Sam as he is painting Tyranid food. :)
