ChrisH' Chaos Dwarfs - Complete Army - 3002 points

Another army challenge completed, 127 miniatures painted and 3002 points based on 3rd edition.

The overall army looks great and I'm very pleased with them.  I had several older units painted in about 1980s and always wanted to add more.

Here is the completed army

Here is the whole army together, old and new!  Additions are another 20 warriors, more artillery and two war engines.  I still have a juggernaut on the painting table and a pre-slotta hobgoblin contingent, no projects are ever finished, just abandoned.....

ChrisH' Chaos Dwarf Army - June 370 points

The last unit is twenty warriors are finally complete, with hand weapons, heavy armour and shields at a totals of 370 points including a level 10 champion for 3rd edition.  The lighting is not great this evening and has affected the picture quality.  Very please with how they turned out and glad to see them complete.

Chris' Chaos Dwarfs - Month 5 - Boar Centaurs and More Artillery - 494 points

I've suffered the usual enthusiasm dip near the end of the project but at the time of writing (23rd May) I'm well into the final unit.  I also have the possible addition of a chaos dwarf juggernaut if I get the time.  This months units are two ass cannons (I have a love/hate relationship with these minis and debated adding them to the army - they are silly).  The boar centaurs are great and were not available as a unit at the time that 3rd Ed came out.

The army so far is looking great, only one more unit to add, happy painting folks.

Chris' Chaos Dwarf Army - Various artillery (922 points)

Always a short month and very little time paint (thanks work!).  Most of the artillery is complete this month, including 4 swivel guns, 4 mortars and 2 bazukas.  All upgraded to heavy armour.  I like a grim dark look for the chaos dwarfs but they have come out a little darker than anticipated, although they look better on the table than in the pictures.  Crossbows for next month.

Really enjoyed painted them so far......

ChrisH' Chaos Dwarf Army - Month 1 (280 points)

Very pleased with how these turned out.  They fit in well with the originals I first painted back in the 80's. My biggest challenge was to replicate the re-basing I did about 5 years ago.  Plenty of grim darkness, which suites chaos dwarfs.  20 models with Arquebus, hand weapons and heavy armour.  They don't have an entry in the 3rd edition army book but points would be 14 each totalling 280.  Probably artillery next month - still a few days to decide......

Chris' Empire Army - Month 6 Wild Card! - 12 Flagellants and Baggage Camp (158 points)

Last official unit completed - 12 flagellants, suffering in the cause of emperor and a diorama style baggage camp - not given a points value but improves the character of the army no end.

Flagellants....

And the baggage Camp.....

The entire army is 2699 points and 174 miniatures excluding the camp which probably brings it to around 200 miniatures.

Fastest army I've painted so the motivation of the challenge has been great and made me to think about better painting techniques including GW contrast and AP speed paints.

Note : the Overlord grants you 50 extra points for this especially impressive baggage camp

Chris' Empire Army - Month 5 - General and Lieutenant (402 points)

It been an easier month the with the character models painted.  Including Klaus, Count Palantine Von Reikland Lvl 25 hero, riding Hippogriff and Paschalis von Eichschatten - Lvl 10 hero, riding barded warhorse.

These two guys bring me to a total of 2591 points so far.  I have also started work on the baggage camp - pictures next month along with my last unit of flagellants

Chris H - Reikland Army Units 2, 3 & 4 (1177 points)

 Rank and File Month 2

It's been a busy month, I wanted to take the biggest unit next and pleased I was able to complete them and still leave time for a further two units of Helblitzen and Reiksguard.  100 miniatures in total - 1177 points.  Never to be repeated!

60 Ersatzsolder armed with pikes and breastplates lead by Burgomeister Reinhard (Lvl 20), with Siffridus the Sword (Lvl 10) champion, standard bearer and musician - 709 points

Also completed are the second unit of Helblitzen - 20 men with Halbards and breastplates also, standard bearer & musician - 198 points

Finally in February are the Reiksguard themselves, 20 +2 elites in heavy armour, shields, two handed swords and and standard, lead by Locotenant Volkmar (lvl 10) - 270 points.

Month 2 - all units....

And all units months 1 and 2 together during a muster on the banks of the Reik....

I finished month 1's unit on Jan 16th so had time to get ahead.  but was worried that the unit of pikes would defeat me so wanted to have plenty of time at it.  The painting technique is a zenithal highlight with a dry brush white that also works as an undercoat for the black armour, making it very quick...

ChrisH's OWAC Introduction Post - 3rd Edition Empire Army

This is my first OWAC army, I’ve had a Perry sculpted Empire Army in mind for a few years and built it with the current foundry models and a few older models from late 80’s early 90’s.  It’s almost a 3rd edition list with a few minor tweaks.

My interest is mainly in 3rd edition oldhammer but I have played modern(ish) 40k, LoTR and ancient/medieval wargames.  For 3rd edition, I have large painted High Elf, Wood Elf, Dark Elf, Orc & Goblin and Chaos armies and have just finished a Norse Army.  I am more of a painter than a gamer but happy to do both.  I have a large painted Elf army which I recently finished after 30+ years painting.

I am a big fan of pre-slotta GW and have painted one of the original Dwarfs as my OWAC offering.

The Empire army colour scheme is inspired by the Osprey men at arms Burgundian Army book – there is a tournament picture where all the characters are in white, and I want to pair it with black armour (no pressure).  A lot of 16th century armour was black and as the empire background has an early 16th century feel it seems to make sense.

I can paint fast when in the zone so am not particularly concerned about the large pike unit.  To add more pressure it will be my first army using airbrush, zenithal highlighting and contrast paints.

My preference it to have a theme underpinning a new army.  In this case it’s the Grand tournament army of Klaus, Count Palantine Von Reikland.  He has an eye for smart uniforms in matching Reikland colours Red, White and Black.  History will tell if he is any use as a general.  This matches with the Burgundian theme as the Burgundians looked great but their performance on the field was generally poor!

Klaus can call on the Temple knights from the Orders of the Blazing Sun and the Order of the Black Rose of which he is the Grand Marshall.  He also has a local contingent of Reiksgard.  The temple of Sigmar provides him a contingent of flagellants and the remainder of the troops are from his own estates.

The army composition is as follows

Klaus, Count Palantine Von Reikland riding Hippogriff, 334 points

10 Knights of the Blazing Sun , 390 points

10 Knights of the Black Rose, 310 points

20 Reiksguard, 220 points

10 Hackbutschutzen (Handgunners), 80 points

60 Ersatsolder lead by Burgomeister Reinhard standard and musician, 709 points

20 Helblitzen, 180 points

20 Helblitzen, 180 points

12 Flagellants, 108 points
