Nicolas' Chaos Army of Tzeentch - Rank and file Month #1

 Back in the game!

January was a packed month for me with the family... and I saw it coming! So in my head, I needed to start with an easy pick, and one that would let me get back a painting routine.

Here they are, my firt 1260 pts of flamers!

As you can imagine, they do not stack up too well in rank and file on 25mm, and actually this edition of the flamers was not meant to.

They were for me and opportunity to test my color combinations for the disks and the wyvern that will follow... Although I might have gone a bit to much "Toucan Sam Froot Loops" on them 😅.

And here are my 3 favorites zoomed in;

Nicolas' Chaos Army of Tzeentch

As I wrap up 2025, getting the house in order to receive family to celebrate the New Year, I realize shrimp cocktails and bacon rolled sausages are not the first things to come on my mind. Nope, my mind is racing over final touches to the composition of this year's OWAC challenge. You know, priorities!

So here they are, my chosen Tzeentch minions for this years challenge!

General - Hero on disk, leader of the Thrall Warband - 125pts

Heroe on disks - 125pts

Lord of Change - 0pts

1 Thrall warband - 200pts

1 unit of chaos warriors of Tzeentch on disks - 815pts

1 pink horror unit - 1260pts

1 blue horror unit - 0pts

1 flamers units - 1260pts

1 Tzeentch chaos spawn - 25pts

1 hydra - 200pts

I am back in the game with a theme I already visited 4 years ago. I had such a blast creating a full unit of 10 Tzeentch Flamers, which still to this day gives me that feeling of pride for building something I have not seen often.

My main influence for this new part of my Tzeentch cult follows the idea of creating a unit I have never seen before... that yet is possible to play in 3rd edition.  There is that old image of a group Tzeentch warriors on flying disks, which I used to find odd since I grew up with 4th edition, where disks were only meant for heros.

And that is how I convinced myself to build a full 10 warriors of Chaos on flying disks! Every other miniatures in this project are sort of... justifying this main unit.

Selection of miniatures was quite a process, I wanted to get miniatures that matched the disk right away with poses that made sence, plus having fighter types and not straight out sorcerers. These ones made it to the Thrall warband!

Finaly, special mention to the hydra, the Spectral Dragon II from Grenadier, which I plan to paint in the same fiery color scheme than the Flamers. I may even add some green stuff to change the dragon heads into Flamers... time will tell!

Chris' Chaos Army - Month 4 - More Chaos Warriors - 1554 points

It's been difficult month, and a similar unit to last month so has been a challenge to finish on time.  Another 20 chaos warriors, mostly metal and around half the of them the original Goodwin sculpts.  This time with a standard bearer that I have knocked over in every painting session.

Very pleased with how the entire force looks so far.  Next unit will be chaos cultists from the original regiments or renown range.

Byron's Command of Zargon's horde - Leader Month (614 Points)

Heed well the words of Mentor, Guardian of Loretome, and I will tell you of times past, of darker days when the Empire was saved against all hope. For I fear the darkness is about to return....

The fell legions of Zargon, Lord of Chaos, had swept all before them. At the sight of the black banner and massed hordes of Chaos, even the bravest warriors of the Empire had turned tail and fled, the land was laid waste and all men despaired.

This month I present the Black Banner of Zargon! (and other command models)

The black banner signals death and pillage
to the people of the Empire

The Champion and Standard Bearer on the left are 5th ed warhammer Chaos warriors. The warrior on the right is Slambo, the prototypical chaos warrior (traded to me by Quinton in exchange for sculpting services).

The Black Banner as it appears in
the official HeroQuest Sticker Album

Zargon's most prized minions, Chaos Warriors,
gather around his Black Banner

The rest of Zargon's command.

For the other command models, I based their standards on the Icons found in the HeroQuest Quest Book.

"WE SERVE ZARGON!"

The Standard Bearer is a skeleton from the game Dark World, a 90's HeroQuest knock off. I drilled a hole in his hand to give him a banner pole. I sculpted the skull at the top of the banner pole to match the evil shields on the dice.

Goblin standard bearer, Champion, and Wizard

These are Kev Adams goblins from black tree miniatures.

"Zargon! Zargon! Zargon!" They Chitter and squeak

"Zargon IZ Da BEST!"

The musician is from Ruglud's armored orcs. I chose him because his armor matched the chaos warriors. The Standard is an 80's GW orc who closely matched the heroquest sculpts (at least his face does). And, the Champion is a catapult crew from the 90's.

And, finally, I present 2 Chaos Sorcerers or Warlocks. (or Balor, the Witch King, or Sir Ragnar depending on the needs of the quest). I included images that I used for their inspiration below. The left one comes from the HeroQuest sticker album. And, the Right one comes from the HeroQuest DM screen - he's hard to see, but he's on the left flap sorta crouching under the umbra of Zargon's cape.

This month I was unable to start painting Zargon himself due to a supply chain issue around printing minis for his tiny HeroQuest game. That being said I completed the following minis:

Chaos Warrior Battle Standard         191 pts
Chaos Champion                                91 pts
Chaos Warrior                                    24 pts
Orc Standard Bearer and Musician    34 pts
Orc Champion                                    36pts
Skeleton Standard bearer                   20 pts
Goblin Standard Bearer                       6 pts
Goblin Champion                                16 pts
Goblin Shaman                                    28 pts
Chaos Sorcerer x2                              168 pts
Total                                                   614 pts

Next month is the final month, the wild card month. A opportunity for my loyalty and devotion to our beloved leader, Zargon, to truly shine.

Jaakko and Slargash - Rank & File #4

Slargash was humming with satisfaction - his troops were on the march. The thumping sound of steel boots and hooves brought terror to the hearts of peasants unlucky enough to cross their path. Last weeks had proven to be beyond his wildest expectations as he had seen his forces grow with creatures he hadn't even known to roam these parts of the Northen Wastes. The gorgon sent by those nice still, still, still unnamed Dark Elves was a particular surprise. He was eager to send them all to battle... but no, he was not to take part. He had been teased to be Slargash the White for too long. Next time he'll command his forces on the battlefield he will be coloured in full and they will call him Slargash the Defiler, Slargash the Great, Slargash of Many Colours!

And hello from me too! It has been a very pleasant month. I really enjoyed painting these models even though I didn't finish everything I intended. I claimed I will paint the army standard this month but there's nothing to worry, I have started the banner and will finish it sooner or later. And the above story is also true, those Dark Elves really sent the gorgon and the painted part of this Chaos army will march to its first battle tomorrow!

Here is my month:

I finished 16 Chaos Warriors including a standard, a gorgon (aka a medusa, not a steel bull) and two trolls.

This month in points:

- 16 warriors with standard: 1258 points

- Gorgon: 110 points

- 2 trolls: 130 points

Total so far 3137 points, 72 models

Until next month - Slargash has to keep waiting as I have other plans for May!

Byron's "The Sticker Album of Zargon" - Rank and File Month (496.5 points)

I failed to meet my goal for this month. I had planned to do all the miniatures for Quest 10. Work and childcare (and preparing for an event at a warhammer convention coming up in May) were the main culprits gobbling up my time. So I have settled for only painting 19 mini this month.

So, for this month, I'd like to share some of the inspiration for my project - the official Heroquest Sticker Album.

You can check out the Sticker Album here at Ye Olde Inn. I spent weeks trying to cook up a good color scheme for the army. The other contender was Purple with bright neon yellow or Purple with Orange. I wanted colors that say Chaos, but not a particular chaos god. Zargon has too much ego, I think, to worship something other than himself.

During this process I stumbled across the sticker album. And the colors really popped in a way that the game box didn't.

That being said, I'd like to share pics of my minis to show how they compare to the sticker album.

Here we can see a chaos warriors in maroon and a sorta gold or beige edge. On the right are my chaos warriors in marron and khaki.

Orcs and Goblins in maroon.

Typically skeletons tend to be lighter or white, but I saw the brown and green skeletons and figured I should branch out a bit and decided to try a drab color.

I didn't paint any fimir this month, but I wanted so show the maroon harnesses worn by the fimir in the sticker album.

Moving right along, here are pics other other minis I painted this month...

I was missing this gargoyle's head and wings.
So I had to....improvise

In total this is 19 models:
Chaos Warriors x 5 = 130 pts
Mummies x5 = 225 pts
Skeletons x 6 = 60 pts
Orc = 8.5 pts
Goblin = 3 pts
Total 496.5 pts

On an additional note, I finished my work on the Zargon Armylist. Check it out.

Finally, pics of the whole army together

In theory, next month will be the general month....
