Mariano´s Wood Elves - Leaders (267 pts)

LEADER MONTH

The five Heroes

I have to admit that heroes have really save the month. My initial plan was to have last month of the challenge for the them, a full month just for them ,so this month should have been the month of the command groups. Then, at the middle of the month, I realised that only 3 spearman (pending for the last month) were finished and the rest were miniatures in diferents painting states. So I take a big breath I and moved to the heroes, with no idea if two weeks were enough for them... but I did it!

So what have I done this month...?

1 Hero N5 (48) Two handed weapon (2) + Long bow (3) + Light armour (2)

I have tried to respect the color scheme of their own units as much as possible but couldn´t be possible in all of them, probably the fault is mine...

Lets see the heroes:

Who is him??? Probably a young Skarloc before he left Athel Lore to go around the Old World. A great leader for one of the archers unit.

This miniature arrived a couple on month ago so no pics of him in the first post. Bu as soon as I saw it, I was sure it seems a better archers leader that the selected one. So I did the change. I´m pretty happy the  painting result in this one.

Well, during the challenge this heroe has been promoted from archers leader to warrior kinbands leader, so good for him. Got some mixed feelings with this one. I think a yellow cloack and the strip of the trouser on lime green and dark green have would work better with his unit. Anyway, I saw it once it was finished and with the lack of time... White hair and the black painting on the sword was mandatory due to the specific miniature , everybody knows why, right?

The leader of the "Eternal Guard" unit. On this one I took the risk of modify a little bit the golden armour nmm used on the unit, pinting it little bit lighter to focus the view on it, as if the armour is newest, better, magical...

With the movements on the leaders position this heroe finish with no unit to command but it was ready to be painted so added him to the monthly list. Maybe I can add him a unit of falconers on the future. On this one I didn't have to follow a unit color scheme so I had more freedom to paint it...

That´s all. Hope you liked them..

PD: If I'm lucky, I expect to add an extra painting work for the last post

Wildcard Month

May.
The month of extreme tiredness, and little time to paint. But, as ever, I had a few models which I had 'saved' just in case and once again this has saved my bacon! A surprise trip away at the end of the month accounts for the lack of finished-ness about this post, so apologies for that as it is literally the witching hour right now!

Please also excuse some of the photos. My phone irreversibly died a week or so ago, and the new one is not as I would have liked it to be.

Anyhow - this month sees the Big Gunz coming out. First up, one of my favourites: the...

Squig Catapult
(Painted way back in February!)

Smasha Gun

I chickened out of the iconic dags on the wheel rim... Time was tight this month!

Splatter Kannon

Dread!
(Painted way, whaaay, back in January)

And what's a month without an obligatory runtherd? I had already painted this sculpt for the Middlehammer Legacy Project (check it out here: link), but I seem to have fallen for these guys and I must paint them!

Runtherd

And, naturally, some runts for him to herd!

That kinda wraps this month up for me I'm afraid, but I do have some room for an unpointed extra!

Runtbot Controller

I thought this guy could go in the squig hard to control the little runtbot...he's notable for some impressive eyebrow hairs.

Well.. that's it for May, I'm afraid.
June will definitely see the addition of crew for the Big Gunz, and maybe an ork or two as I wrap up with a Rank and File month number 4...  😃

Take it easy!

Filippo's Ultramarine - Boxes! (235 points)

Rank & File #3

"Ok brain, focus. What are we gonna do in May? I know we are both tired of power armours, so we need to switch to scouts and.."
"Boxes!"
"What are you talking about?"
"BOXES!"
"There are no boxes in 40k.."
"I WANT BOXES! MORE BOXES!"

This is an extract of what happened in my mind at the end of April.

The reason was an almost burnout caused by the night painting and probably a bottle of Diplomatico (that came in a nice cylindrical box, maybe that what the brain was talking about..)

I could not tolerate another power armour, but my list was full of infantry and the alternative was even worse.

I checked all the stuff I collect for the OWAC and decided that I should swap a squad of Devastators for a vehicle.

I had a brand new rhino still on its sprue that a friend sold me for a couple of beers, I asked our mighty Overlord for the authorization and voilà! May was done!

Box #1 - Tracked Box

A nice transport for my tactical squad! The only difference to the original are the decals, that came from a modern kit.

It's incredible how I hated this model back in the day, and how much I love it now. I'm so happy I could  build it with the original hand rails, a decoration that usually lasted a game or two, before disintegrating.

The only problem was.. I ended it in a couple of days, and called the work done in the first week of May.

It felt like cheating, something must be added, but what?

I take a look at the stuff on the shelves, and remembered that, when it was December and I was still thinking optimistically at my plans, I wanted to do two things for my wild card month.

The first one is a present from by my dear friend Davide Giurissini, a really talented guy from Trieste who loves creating buildings and terrains: an old school imperial bunker!

As Andrea Lucchetti told me "it's look like it came straight from a 90's White Dwarf article!"

Box #2 - Concrete box, front view

Box #2 - Concrete box, rear view

Box #2 - Concrete box, front view with friends

The second one is a Dreadnought, or "Sarcofagus" as was translated in the Italian version back in the third edition.

Box #3 - Angry walking box

Dreadnought are amazing!

"Ok, so your super soldier was badly injured in battle and could not fight anymore? Not a problem, just bury him in that 20 tons armoured coffin and let him fight for another thousand years!"

This model weights more than my entire plastic army of Salamanders for the current edition!!

The banner is printed and a couple of decals are different from the originals, but I'm quite happy with the result.

That's all for May, 235 points, considering the smoke launchers.

What will happen in June? We'll see.. now, where my bottle of rhum?
