Merijn's Chaos Dwarf host (529 points)

Leader month!

I read once that the 4th and 5th edition intended it to be a game of mighty heroes, powerful wizards, and titanic monsters, with the armies just playing the role of their retinue. And boy did the model line support that. Herohammer has some of the coolest, most characterful hero miniatures in the history of warhammer.

And those monsters! They might not be big by today's standards but back then there weren't that many large models in an army so a monster really was the centerpiece of your horde. And what a lineup of monsters, noble griffons, vicious wyverns, towering dragons. But one of my favorites was the exotic lammasu. It's crazy looks aside, who doesn't love a monster that is likely smarter than its rider?

Conveniently, chaos dwarfs are allowed to bring a sorcerer lord as their general and the lamassu provides a bit of much-needed mobility to the army.

This massive points sink brings my point total up to 924 points.

Quin’s Lizardmen of the Black Marsh - The Holy Ruler (292 Points)

 <Leader Month>

Ioth Ssissith

The brood king looks down from his throne of gold and velvet upon the throng of lizards amassed before him on this day,

“I want to tell you 'bout Chaos Waste radio and the big beat

Comes out of the Lustrian swamps

Cool and slow with plenty of precision

With a back beat narrow and hard to master. Some call it heavenly in its brilliance

Others, mean and rueful of the Western dream.

I love the friends I have gathered together on this thin raft

We have constructed pyramids in honor of our escaping

This is the land where the Pharaoh died.”

With the inspiring words of the brood king resonating in the earholes of every lizard they marched triumphantly on, carving their path of destruction, led by the Holy Ruler of Umbraxakar’s army, Ioth Ssissith.

This month I decided to take a break from my rank & file and work on a larger model. The mount for my general is another Tom Meier sculpt from Ral Partha. I was able to clip the rider up a bit to make his pose work, and I think it turned out well! Since I’ve got quite a bit of this month remaining I’m planning on using my “free” time to convert some extra lizards into musicians & standard bearers.

Point Values:

Jeff Allen's Kossars (342 Points)

I am never painting this many figures again. What was I thinking?

For March I decided to paint Kossars. I had 2 units worth so I thought I'd get them done all at once. I got them done but I really hated it the last few days. 30 figures including the Boyar and a Bear as unit filler and flavor. But they are done!

So officially for the challenge, this is a unit of "Greatswords" with 2 Archer detachments, to keep it legal for the 4th edition rules. Thematically it works for Middenheim, at least to me. As I think there would be Kislev influences in the Middenheim culture. I see Middenheim and Kislev working together to fend off the endless attacks from the Chaos wastes to the north. So here are the pics:

Here's the first unit. My big problem with these guys was the standard. I suck at free hand work. So I spent about 2 days trying to figure out how to print a custom decal. I had the Testors Decal kit already, but didn't know how to use it.

The 2nd unit of Kossars. I hit the standard with Testors Dullcote, but the decal is still a little shiny. I might go back and paint over it.

This guy I found on Facebook. He is the Coach of Kislev inspired Blood Bowl team. I love him as a Boyar.

Here are the lads pretending to be Empire troops.

Here are all the troops I've painted for OWAC3 together. I got a little carried away with the back drop and created a whole little rustic village scene.

So my point totals:

17 Kossars(GreatSwords)....153
4 Command figs...................36
11 Archer Detachments........88
1 Boyar(Hero)......................65

Total......................................342

That was a long month for many reasons. Looking forward to a better April, for everyone.

Next up, the iconic Winged Hussars!

Cheers, Xin/Jeff

Mike's March Reinforcements (200pts)

Well March came roaring in from the doldrums of February and it's disappointing mulligan. I'd like to say I dove right in and worked right from the start to finish up this month, but I'd be lying if I did. real life and a general hobby malaise settled in and I didn't get much progress until there was a week left in the month. By the end I got the Pestigor unit and the plague cart finished for the submission.

Pestigor unit contains two of my favorite sculpts, the minotaur and the two headed snake handed mutant, plus some older Runequest Broo and come in at 100pts with light armor and 2 handed weapons. Sadly these are the about last of my unpainted beastmen, and they've been pretty hard to find to add to my collection lately.

And lastly the Plague Cart of Nurgle, an item that no self respecting warband of the plague god would pass up in their list.

I didn't realize until I dug him out of the box that he was missing his undead ox and instead had the mount for another undead model, which works for now. That saying, if anyone has an extra skeletal bovine that needs a home then let me know. The rider was the worst art for me, originally he was attempted as bluish specter. Which I messed up so horrible that I started again with a easier gray robe. All and all I think it came out well. Now to start planning next months project...
