Iannick's Stag's Spida Rida (170pts)

Spiders so large they appear to be wearing the pelts of small mammals.

Excuse my language, but FUCK YEAH! Here's my last unit of Gobbos for the first edition of the OWAC, 10 Spider Riders!

I really worked overtime to get these guys done in time, and I really mean that! Due to work commitment, I couldn't start on these until two weeks ago to the day, which means that I painted 20 figures in 14 days. That's probably my record. They are not as nice as my last few units, they lack some details and highlights, and I had to cut some corners, but I was expecting worse! Now looking at the pictures I'm satisfied with them.

Kenneth's Ruerhl's warhost 6 (175 points)

FINALLY! The soldiers were trained and ready for a serious fight now. After the first raid even more fighters joined the warband. More crossbowmen and warriors with shield proved their loyalty to Ruerhl.

With an arsenal of loyal soldiers to command he was ready for real conquest. His scouts were already reporting about a high elf town a few days away ....

Final Countdown!

We interrupt the normal blog posting to remind everyone that the end of the challenge is in sight...yes, it's the FINAL COUNTDOWN!!

Carry on...and Glory awaits!

Jeff's Dark Elves - April (0 Points)

Out with a whimper instead of a bang, I fear.  I'm using my mulligan this month.  Long story short, (and without putting too many personal details on the internet) real life happened, emergency surgery was involved, and everyone is fine now; but I've not put paint on a miniature all month.

Mustafa's Grozhart The Slaughterer and the Slaughter-mongers (197pts)

They don’t come much more psychotic than good old Grozzy.

Sean's Bretonnians - Knights and L'Ordonnance (201pts)

Hi All,

Well the army is done! There were definitely many points along the way where I didn't think I was going to make it, but now I have a 1000 point Bretonnian army I didn't have before.

Here is the output for April.

Qrab's Chaos Dwarf Über Allies (352 points)

Here we are in the final month of the painting challenge and I find myself unable to stop. In my last blog post I alluded to working on something short and explosive and the models I painted this month fit that description. For April I finished a small Chaos Ally Contingent consisting of five more classic Oldhammer models that came out to 352 points.
  • Chaos Sorcerer Contingent Commander (240 points)
  • Chaos Dwarf Mortar team (42 points)
  • Chaos Dwarf Bazuka team (70 points)
The gang's all here.

Anthony's April Allies (239 pts)

Word was spreading in the Old World of plunder and death of apocalyptic proportions. Survivors of former cities now sought refuge within the capitals of the Empire and spoke of hordes of savages bearing the heraldry of the Blue Serpent. Meanwhile, Morgoth's hordes only grew larger as followers of the chaos gods were drawn to the strength of his army and the potential to wreak havoc on the kingdoms of men. Packs of beasts of all shapes and sizes were drawn to the din of battle ...

Blue's April Elves

Well here we are!  The last month of the Old World Army Challenge.

This post will show the final models that I painted for my thousand point force...including my general...but I will do a separate wrap up post with army shots etc a little closer to the end of the month.

This month saw the smallest number of models for the points because this group includes my general and two other mounted models.

Here is the Points Break Down!

2x Lord's Bowmen     30pts
1x Warrior Kinband   11pts
1x Wardancer             23pts
2x Wood Riders         52pts.
1x General (lvl. 10)   98pts
TOTAL                      214pts

Here is the Group picture...

Here is also your first look at the Shield design I've chosen.

...and here are the individual photos of different troop types.

One. Last. Month.

March is done!! Only April stands between you and eternal glory!

Soon, you shall be referred to as veterans of The OWAC, and one day your children will get to hear your tales of hope and courage, despair and missed deadlines, as you faced 6 months of grueling painting but survived to tell the tale.

Knock this out of the park, glory awaits!!!

Iannick,
Your benevolent overlord

Ed's regrettably throwing in the towel (or maybe not after all)

Hi everyone. I regret to inform you that unfortunately I will have to call time on my old world army challenge.

I'd have to say my work being increasingly busy has played the biggest part in this decision; I have been working every day recently and have been too drained to pick up a smaller paint brush in the evenings.

Secondly, my final installment has been looking doubtful as a) I haven't even managed to buy all the figures for my dwarf unit and b) I haven't even decided on which figures to use for my cavalry, let alone buy them.

Finally, I have to admit that I'm feeling pretty burnt out with painting Empire right now. I think the unit of halberdiers last month brought that on. I didn't want this project to end up rushed and a chore.

It's a real shame I've had to come to this decision when the end is in sight. I must look at the positives on the other hand. I had planned on starting a Border Princes army last year anyway and had it not been for the challenge I confess wouldn't have got as far with it as I have done, I know what I'm like and I'd have probably painted half of what you've seen before taking a break from it and tackling something else.

The challenge is indeed just that. It takes commitment and a lot of focus and I've been mightily impressed at the efforts of you guys! It's been a massive success and you all deserve the praise you get.

I wish you all the luck to get yourselves over the finishing line. You can do it!

Note from the Challenge Overlord : After discussing with Ed, I decided to let him stay in the challenge, even though he's used his mulligan already. So close to the end, and Ed have produced such brilliant work, I felt it would be a shame for him to drop out at this point. I suggested that he stay in, and he accepted. Consequently, Ed will produce one last entry for us in April, and obviously be allowed to post his wrap-up post, with his completed army.

Kober's Expeditionary Force - Here comes the King (494pts)

Kober's Expeditionary Force - Added points 494.   Warriors with spears and shields  (240 points ),  Dwarf Wizard (0 points)  doesn't count since I had previously painted him.  Dwarf King  lvl 20 ( 254 points )

King Kober the magnificent leads his expeditionary force to rid his hops fields of the Green skin scum.    The Almighty King is supported  by two shield bearers so he can have a clear view of the battle field and meet any Orc eye to eye.

King Kober has enlisted the services of his trusted advisor and wizard Carl the beer bug crusher (lvl 20) .  Carl has researched the ancient rule of  frost for this adventure.

The morale  of King Kober's troops is at an all time high.   Having Bugmans brew in a frosted mug has been a big hit.

King Kober

Jeff Allen's Chaos Warriors (240pts)

I finally finished my Chaos Warriors. These guys I started back in December, but had to take my mulligan that month. When I did my Jan and February submissions I went with Dragon Ogres and Harpies. The OWAC is almost over and so time to get back to these guys.

Tom's Stinkfoot's war altar and other creeps (214pts)

Ever since the first time I got my hands on a copy of The Lost and the Damned I've been obsessed with the Plague Chalice. It's a tiny image on one page but it has stuck with me all these years. I pieced this together from bass wood for the wagon, green stuff tentacles, the chalice is a doll house trophy minus the handles. Ole Bessie the two headed cow is from armor cast. This is 110 points. The altar guards come next month

Whitehorn's having a bad time

I made a start on some zombies at the beginning of the month.

Then my girlfriend declared the house we wanted to move to was ours for the taking.

So I spent some time sorting stuff from our current home, selling stuff, planning.

I got ill, but soldiered on.

Then we split up.

Now the month is over.

And I hope April treats me better.

BulldogLopez paints some Cold Ones! (215pts)

Big Stupid Lizards!

That's right people! Stinky dumb lizards ridden by Dark Elf nobles. Freaking. Awesome.

There really isn't much else to say about these. They were fun to paint and they will be joining another five I had previously painted up years ago.

Next up are 4 more cold one riders with the army standard and general. The next submission wasn't in my original list but i'm over 1000 points either way and I figured a general and standard would be a great way to finish up the challenge.

5 Helldrakes: Light Armor, Shield, Hand Weapon, Lance ....... 215 points

From SeanS - March is for Mulligan

Well,

Best laid plans and all. I could give you some sob story, or tell you that the one figure I painted is worth 200 points, but instead I'll just take a mulligan and try to get these knights and artillery painted up.

I thought I could wrap things up with the day off yesterday and a quick track meet this morning, but I had to stay all day to cover for someone and frankly I'm tired after 9 hours out in the sun.

So should be smooth sailing to finish the lot for April and hopefully have some more terrain to take a bitchin army shot.

Thanks if you read more than the title.

Nathan's second last month of Slann (276pts)

Amazing what a deadline can do. I'm not able to paint anything during the last week of March due to some family commitments - that had me thinking that I might need to use my mulligan this month. But I thought that it was worth a try getting enough figures painted and in the end I got over 200 points done pretty easily. A lizardman hero that is worth 120 points on his own helps of course - overall the figures I completed are:

- Lvl 10 Lizardman hero 120 points
- 2 venom tribes 24 points
- 3 spawn bands 30 points
- 2 warrior priests, 1 with a standard 36 points
- 3 lizardmen 66 points

Grand total of 276 points. I'm a decent way through a few other figures which I will make April pretty easy too. The also ensures I have the minimum numbers of troops for a 3000 point army which is what I'm ultimately building toward. Anyway enough blabbing from me - here they are:

Rochie's Mulligan Post

Really wasn't planning on taking a mulligan at all during this challenge, but this month has seen me more ill than I've ever been, swollen joints have me crippled.

So, unfortunately I have to call this month a fail and hope the test results come back in time for treatment to start so that I can finish strong next month, so until then well done to all my fellow participants and here's to the grand finale!

Mike's Waagh Grogguzzler (224pts)

Here it is now the last day of March and the snow has ended and now its the blessed season of priming before humidity starts is upon us. Well more likely rain, wind, dampness will pervade everything for April. But I digress and the end of the challenge is tantalizingly close now and I am fighting the urge to paint everything but the challenge army after playing a very bloody 4th edition game with my chaos last week. But through perseverance I finished this months unit of Orc Boar Boyz! I went with a unit of 5 armed with spears and Gork'sWar Banner.

I really love the character of the models, but boy do they not fit easily on the mounts. I snapped the foot off one just trying to gently bend the foot out, causing me to glue it until I figure out how to pin it on properly. But I am pleased generally how they came out, though I dread the thought of the other 25 plus boar boyz I have waiting for the future. Next month the plan is to finish up with characters and possibly some goblin wolf riders!

Iannick's Kleznot's Forest Goblin Mob (and fanatics) (231.5pts)

Here is the first part of my rather large March entry, at least in figure count, a mob of 30 Forest Goblins infantry!

The unit is made-up entirely of classic early 90s Citadel forest goblins, sculpted by gobbo master Kev Adams. The unit, equipped with two handed weapons, is worth a whopping 141.5 points (and that's including the Big Boss)!

Dave's Cold-As-Ice Executioners (160pts)

What a shock to think the challenge is nearly over! It's still cold here in Naggaroth, I mean Ontario!, but the last snows of the season seem to have come and gone. I spent February and March on my penultimate submission and the last full regiment in the army. Vakath's Executioners served under the Dark Elf commander when he was still a prized son of Har Ganeth. While he will never see the baleful walls of the revered City of Executioners again, Vakath retains some satisfaction in his black heart that he can still carry out his depraved murders with these hardened slayers forming the core of his Shock Cadre.

A picture is worth 1000 words --- Ben's March Mulligan

I haven't done a damn thing all month. Not one single thing associated with the challenge or the hobby in general. In case you don't recognize the pic above....

Relax Mulligan.

Arjen's Plaagrotter's warband is complete with Phlem and the Metal Heads.

The final push of this challenge, the mandatory part at least, is a unit of thugs with shields and a chaos warrior (total points: 200). I still have to decide whether I use my "mulligan-month" to do extra figures of clean up the units from the last 5 months.

Phlem the Chaos Warrior; as I was painting a unit with a lot of exposed flesh; why not paint this guys armor a nice flesh color? If it makes people slightly nauseous or uncomfortable looking at him then pappa Nurgle is happy. His sword is the infamous Puss-blade. He collected around him a unit of mostly deviant percussionists and axe shredders; the Metal heads.

Phlem, center front, his companions from L->R are; Pissboy, Arnie, Phlem, Obelix and Jack.
