Adrian's eldars - Iyanden is un-doomed (Wrap-up)

Wrap-up post!

Another OWAC, another troop removed from the pile of shame.

It was a fun project. From painting to create the scenes and write some stories accompanying the updates. It was less stressful than the orc and goblins except for some odd months. However, this time having a job a constrained schedule felt a lot in the planned "extras". Maybe in a future coming back to Iyanden I can add the terrain from the Tyranid invasion or some scattered details from the craftwold gardens.

Painting yellow may seems a bit tedious sometimes but the experience of years collecting eldars and the mix of models I selected made the task a much easier.

I enjoyed the pirates a lot with the mixture of armour colors, one of my favourite units of this challenge. Also I can finally claim my small achievement, completed the unit of eldar exodites after so long. Some of the eldar scouts and wood elf wardancers were purchased in blisters, and the cold ones were the ones from their very first release!

The Doom of the Eldar has not been my personal doom, I finished another OWAC! It has been so much pleasure to paint it as to show them to you all. Hope I get my hand in some units and can continue this project in a future OWAC.

Oh, remember the last year when I lost a goblin for the last set of pictures and found it after the recap post? I have made the same mistake with my wraithlord bright lance. I had it in my hand the other day!!

Lissanne's Eldar- Is that All there is?

Defense of the Maiden World Wrap up Post

Well, my fourth OWAC is in the books.  I can't say it gets any easier, but careful planning helps.  This time around I did more figures for my already huge Eldar army, choosing mostly the type of figures who I had done none of, and were languishing unpainted in the lead pile.  Now they join their friends and neighbors in the active fighting force.

Since I am poor at group photos, I will show recap photos.

Month 1:  Brown Recluse Squad- 10 Scouts/Rangers

Month 2: Brown Recluse Squad- 5 Scouts/Rangers, Black Widow Shrine- 4 Warp Spiders 1 Warp Spider Exarch

Month 3: Black Widow Shrine- 4 Warp Spiders 1 Warp Spider Exarch, Fire Wasp shrine - 4 Fire Dragons led by Warp Spider Exarch

(I may have the same warp spider squad twice in the photos, but there are two squads.  Can't tell, LOL!)

Month 4:  Dragonfly squadron-4 Exodites and Exodite Champion

Month 5: Worldsinger Yavanna

Month 6:  Space Pirates and Tempest!

These are nearly all things I have wanted to paint for a few years or a few decades (mostly a few decades), but keep putting off!  The only thing I had painted before was Fire Dragons.  I have LOTS of Fire Dragons, I like Fire Dragons.  But Hooray for OWAC and new forces!

What will I do next OWAC?  Hmmmm....I have a potential army already put to the side, but half the time my actual army choice has been a happy surprise, so I will leave the final choice for the future.
And as always, thanks to our benevolent overlord, and thanks to the other competitors for urging everyone onward! If that's all there is, let's keep dancing! On to the next OWAC!

Adrian's Eldars - The Wild Hunt (202 points)

Wild Card month

The dire avenger exarch watched the holomap with the last line of defense surrounding the webway portal and the entrance to the halls fo the House Delgari.

-We've lost contact with several corsair crews. Hopefully the will be with the other warrios that had withdraw. The line is ready for the last stand...

Suddenly he pointed to the flank

-However, we have reports that several swarms are trying to break through differnt points. The troops are mustering near the portal as you ordered. But we need to counterattack if we want to redirect the swarms to the center point. What shall we do now?

The farseer didn't speak, he simply turned to the webway portal.

In a blast of light, a new reinforcement moved from the webway. A group of warriors in bright clothes riding dragons.

-My name is Calsaar Firebreath, and we're the heirs of Haranshemash. We come to pay our debt in blood and wrath to our allies.

The farseer pointed to the map and commanded.

-The swarm must be herd to our trap there.

The exarch added.

-We could to assist your warriors if needed.

But Calsaar simply checked the equipment of his men and draw the sword.

-You won't have to break formation exarch. We will break the tide and crush those who dare to get to the flanks. The storm rides after us.

The exiled dragon knights charged across the plains between the webway portal and the forests. Farseer Ylshor saw the dragon knights riding towards the swarm and remarked a simple "Indeed" while moving the runes in the air. A psychic storm started to take shape behind the wild riders...

----------

This unit has seated in pieces waaaay to much. The wild card month was the perfect opportunity for the wildest riders.

It is a shame that the exiled dragons never had miniatures, neither they got love in more recent editions. A running gag in some novels or fluff, but nothing more. They're an interesting part of the eldar lore. First, imagining a society of eldars that had rejected most of the traditions and became something like the space amish...but with a more advanced technology than humans.

Heck, according to the old Titanicus they even have knights and titans...

And the second reason, because dinosaurs. Who can resist to a Dino-Riders army.

So here we go

4x Exiled knights - 152 points

For this unit I took inspiration from Moebius amazing illustrations, with pastel and bright colours. That would add something interesting and different to the usual wood elves in space vibe that you'll expect from the eldar exodites. That's before watching the amazing pastel exodite riders from Lyssane! Truely amazing and inspiring as always. So I went for the original idea of the pastel colours which I do not usually paint.

The dinosaur skins are also different to the usual lizard-like greens or brown/yellow. The inspiration came from a child book I was working with a friend of mine who made the illustration. While the anatomy was right the editors wanted that the colours where... something more radical. I loved some designs and tried to replicate a particular skin into the dark elf cold ones.

Fun to paint in this kind of colours as I usually work with a more saturated or darker palettes.

1x Exiled knight veteran - 50 points

It was pretty fun to convert and paint, so who knows. Probably I will expand the exiled dragons in the future.

This unit lacks a lot of gemstones in comparison to the previous months but I think that 72 gemstones will please the public.

Lissanne's Eldar- Everybody Walk the Dinosaur (182 pts)

Defense of the Maiden World part 4
(rank and file #4)

Introducing the Dragonfly squadron!  Five exodite knights including a champion!

I had these Tamiya velociraptors sitting around for decades, intending all the time to use them for exodites, and so I pulled a bunch of random old eldar figures at the beginning of this challenge to be their riders.  But I still needed laser lances. When I went to look for laser lances in my horde,  I found I had a lot of Shining Spear riders laying about, which were so perfect for exodite knights I switched the riders.  This cost me a week of painting time, but I think it was well worth it.  At one point in the past, I had been looking for a squad of jet bikes for another challenge and the Shining Spear jetbikes 3 to a box were the best bargain!  I had wanted them for harlequins so the Shining Spears figures were shelved.

However, they have no butts, like most citadel riders.  I chose not to do saddles, so they needed butts.   Sculpting eldar butts over the years is probably the one thing I have sculpted the most.  I keep posing the seated eldar so they look more active, especially my harlequins, who are often doing stunts on their bikes..  So sculpting 5 more eldar butts was not much of a problem.

The purple knight has an especially fancy butt.

And I wanted a banner for this unit, but I didn't want the banner to have craftworld symbols, so used something resembling a Haraiguchi, a Shinto wand of blessing. which I have done previously for exodite guardian types.  I think they make cool banners.
Here is the banner bearer, the green knight.

Of course, the champion is the pink knight, with fancy armor and a power sword.

And the remaining two knights, the blue knight and the yellow knight.  Shining spears happily had obviously female knights, although I consider all these knights female.  They also had different torsos in each box.  Go figure!  I consider most of my eldar female, anyway,  but it's nice to get some support from the castings.

So:
4 Exodites 36pts each
1 Exodite Champion 38pts
182pts total

Next month is my Leader month!   The leader plus is taking a bath at the moment, so more next time!

This time I am getting to do my favorite- Eldar!  2nd edition, doing some troop types I have wanted to do for a loooong time!  The theme is Defense of the Maiden World, with the Craftworld reinforcements coming through a warp gate.

Reinforcements:

 The Black Widow Shrine
2 squads of 5 warp spiders with exarch                     428

The Fire Wasps Shrine
4 fire dragons lead by warp spider exarch               162

Native forces:

15 Eldar scouts                                                   345

5 exodite knights                                                180

40 figs in total                                                    1115

plus leader farseer (plus surprise)            1        200       1315 pts

Extra maybe 5 harleys on 2nd edition jetboards depending on time.  Before and after photos for farseer plus and anything not here will be posted later.

I have never done scouts, exodites OR Warp Spiders!  I added the Fire Dragons due to squad size/restrictions, I was just intending to do new units.  And I am planning to do a classic webway portal for the extra month.

My Overlord offering is a painting of the winning general as a prize, so later!  Awaiting the starting gun!
