Lissanne's Rainbow Warriors- Wrap Up! The Rainbow's End

So my 5th OWAC comes to an end, with an unbroken string of victories and no mulligans!  My goal was to complete all the figures necessary for a series of Space Hulk games using Rainbow Warriors, while doing a 2nd legion army full of equality and eco friendly pony loving marines! Rainbows are fun!  Rainbows are hard....I didn't get all the vehicles done I had intended, like another rhino, a land raider and a bike squad, but I am happy with all I did get done!

So here is that Space Hulk list and pics of the finished models!
One Captain with Power Sword and Storm Bolter
Two Sargents with Storm Bolters and Power Swords

One Lieutenent with Storm bolter and Power fist
One Sargent with Storm bolter and Power fist

Chaplain with Storm Bolter and Crozius
Librarian with Storm Bolter and Force Axe
Techmarine with Storm Bolter and Photon (Missile) Launcher
Techmarine with Storm Bolter and Auspex

Two Termies with Heavy Flamers and Power Fists

Two Termies with Assault Cannons and Power Fists

One with Chainfist and Storm Bolter (I have 2, oh well)

One with Lightning Claws, and one with a Thunder Hammer and Force Shield (who was done previously)

And 7 standard terminators with storm bolter and power fist, and the other Sargent (front left) that ended up in the group shot.  There are actually 8 standards here, but what the hey!  More is good.

And those things not on the list

Terminator Hero Rainbow Dash

The two dreadnoughts Cadence and Cascade

Drop Pod Chrysalis

Skyrangers (7) and Grav Tank Azure Sky

QT Mark Crusaders (10) and Rhino Celestia

And the Baneblade Tarkus

Since I am doing a 12 squad challenge elsewhere, I have the Skyrangers to finish and another 10 person squad of marines.  I painted up a fancy space marine the other week who turned out to be a Primaris, so I think the final squad will be all Primaris.  No one is around in the fluff to stop Cawl from doing it, LOL!  So it isn't really the Rainbow's end, after all.

This was probably the hardest OWAC for me since the first (cavalry...) but I'm happy to have gotten it done!  An endless line of intricate models all mostly alike is difficult and mind numbing, as it turns out.  But I can finish the last models (for the other challenge) more slowly..  And I have painted so much this month- only one Rainbow Warrior!

So Congratulations to all the finishers, be you a novice or repeat offender.  It never gets easier!

Lissanne's Rainbow Warriors- Wildcard month! (724 pts) Tarkus!

Bet you weren't expecting a scratchbuilt baneblade this month!  Actually, this has been sitting around unpainted and in need of repair for decades. It is from the Baneblade pattern in that old White Dwarf.  I originally built it as a salvage vehicle/stage for my harlequins in 2nd edition, but the game went to 3rd before I could finish. Here are a couple mandatory progress pics of it after I repaired and primed it, first white then blue.

Since I won't play any Emperor loving troops, because he's a sexist dick,  there it sat.  Until I picked it up & dusted it off for my Rainbow Warriors. I decided to be somewhat faithful to my Harlequins, so the Tarkus paint job,  if I can ever use it as Harlequin salvage it will still fit!   And this falls under allied forces for the Rainbow Warriors, the Baneblade Tarkus!  And of course the turrets are fully mobile.

The Tarkus on one side is from the official alternate art used in the original ad copy BTW.  The other is from the Gatefold album cover.   I actually wanted to put more scenes from Tarkus on this and originally did, but it looked busy and muddy, so I did armor and rainbows instead.  I ended up painting that top turret 3 times, LOL!  I painted 2 different versions of Eruption, which is just too dark, so more rainbows!.

Also this month I did the last terminator I need for that Space Hulk list, Spitfire with a flamer, and a chainfist companion Purple Dart to fill out another squad for my 12 squad challenge.  Next month I will go down the actual list and show the finished terminators!   I actually have everything for the series of Space Hulk games now, and a few more besides!

Baneblade 634 pts  Tarkus with Party Cannon!
2 terminators  42 pts each    84 pts
flamer 6 pts

total 724pts

Also, a great sendoff for Pride Month, going out in style!

Lissanne's Rainbow Warriors- Rank & File #4 (460 pts) I can drive my very own Tank!

Well, my gallery show in April probably put a halt to me doing the proposed land raider during this OWAC (not to mention banners), so please accept this humble deodorant grav tank in its place as my Oldschool offering of the month. I had this lovely translucent deodorant container sitting about for years- I coated the inside blue and it looks killer, like it was airbrushed.  Here is the Grav tank Azure Sky.

I got through 7 of the terminators from the Space Hulk list, and sort of burnt out. But here are 7 more Wonderbolters.  I will do the last necessary terminator in Wild Card month (already started actually) and the big extravagance, and who knows what else?  Time will tell.  I tend to paint till the last week on Wild Card.month

Zipp Storm and Misty Fly

Fire Streak and Sun Chaser,  with the assault cannons

Star Hunter, Ribbon Sweet and Silver Zoom

So I switched to a squad of space marines I will need for the 12 squad challenge I am doing elsewhere. I got through 7, but for the other 3 I have to order more sisters heads, and they won't get here in time.  These are Stratus' Skyrangers, but the Stratus figure will have to come after this OWAC.

Sky Stinger, Angel Wings, Pink Pony, Sunburst

Mountain Haze, Sunbeam, Wildfire (with the Flamer)

And I retouched and rebased 3 of my previously done Rainbow Warriors, but they don't count for points

High Winds, Mane Moon, Cloud Kicker

So, this month:

7 Wonderbolters terminators 42 pt each  294pts
Extra weapons- flamer, chainfist, 2 assault cannons- 55pts
7 Stratus Skyrangers space marines- 15 pts each  105 pts
    Flamer- 6 pts
3 retouched/based older terminators 0 pts
Grav tank  0 pts (because it's not in 3rd edition,it's just cool)

Total 460 pts

The obligatory I found these marines picture prepainted.

And all of this month's figures!

And I found out my army does function as it's supposed to... off the tabletop.  I met my friend's child for the first time, visiting my house along with my friend.   He has now chosen to be a young man, and just finished his first year of college.   He saw my Rainbow Warriors, and excitedly said "Are those Gay Space Marines?".  I answered, " Yes, they are!"  then, "Would you like to learn to play Warhammer?"  "Yes" he said.  He will return to college in the fall,  and the ranks of 40K players grows.

Lissanne's Rainbow Warriors- Three is the Magic Number (200 pts) Leader month

This month, I decided to do my command figures, in order to get some sort of buffer back.  THEN I got a great opportunity to have a solo gallery show in a widely seen gallery.  The condition being it is open when I sit there.  Fortunately, despite a heavy workload, my plans didn't completely fall apart.  And as there can't be really extravagant basing either, since these are for Space Hulk, that helped too.

In my initial blog post, I pointed out I am working from a very specific list of terminators for a series of Space Hulk games.  In the list, there are 2 different command figures, a Librarian and a Chaplain., These figures don't pair to make a command squad in 3rd, but I decided to do them both in my command month. In addition, I decided to do a (non-list) Hero, Rainbow Dash.  Gotta have Rainbow Dash!

Years ago, dissatisfied with the tiny terminators,  I sculpted my own body for my Khorne terminators.  Terminators were supposed to be midway between Marines and Dreadnoughts, and the wearer sits inside them.  So large.   I used doggie juggernaut heads for Khorne, and they look wonderful and scary. So scary, that when I fielded them, even the Space Wolves found something else to do on the far side of the board.  Ah well...

But I have a few bodies I cast still laying about. So, proud hero Rainbow Dash.  I had a spare pair of Exarch wings I bought off the bits man many moons ago, perfect for this!  Add a unicorn head, and a bolter I cast from an unreleased metal giant bolter I got from GW, & here is my scratchbuilt offering of the month.

More Rainbow Dash

The chaplain and the librarian are conversions so they have sister heads and weapons proper to that aforementioned Space Hulk list.  Also, I was given a bunch of weird paints for Xmas, one was called Mirror Black. So I decided to try for a mirror black chaplain.  I like to use my presents!
So,Aspect of Luna unicorn of Death-Chaplain Midnight Strike.

As for Mirror Black, read shiny shiny black.  And stinky.---meaning I turned out to be allergic to the paint.  So it took more time than I would have liked.  It looks nice, but I won't be using that paint again.

Lastly, Aspect of Celestia unicorn of Life-Librarian Dawn Wings.  I had decided to do this one in a NMchrome last year, as I have done 2d chrome many a time and wanted the practice on 3d objects.

Well, I should have looked more closely at the figure, as not only is it heavily converted to fit my army list, but less than half of the fig is armor, and a lot of that is in shadow.  Still, I like the way it came out.

So....
Rainbow Dash hero
Chaplain Midnight Strike
Librarian Dawn Wings

Since they are individual command figures rather than a command squad, I'll just take the 200 pts for leader month and call it done.

Not sure if I will do my 4th Rank and File or Wild Card extravagance next month.  I have 3 terminators already done for R&F, but the rest of April is busy.  We will see.

Lissanne's Rainbow Warriors- Cadence and Cascade (322pts) Rank and file month #3

Nothing says old school 40K like scratchbuilt vehicles! This month I have a Drop Pod for my vehicle, the Chrysalis, and its occupants, which are a pair of Dreadnoughts and the 2nd techmarine!  I found these Dreads I didn't know I had in my stash, and felt the urge to paint them!  I admit, I got distracted from the terminators which I intended to do this month.  What's new?
Drop pods are legit vehicles in 3rd, but worth 0 pts.  Here is the Chrysalis.  I used an old official pattern, believe it or not!

I started getting into this duality theme, dark and light, befitting the 2nd legion.  Represented by the light and dark unicorns of love and death. I'm going to carry it through the whole army now.

The Dreads are named Cadence and Cascade, I was trying for a lighter and darker blue, but really light blue looked awful.  Cadence is the lighter, with the light horse crest.  Instead of banners on the Dreadnoughts, I tried a knight's crest, these being unicorn heads (of course).  They fit with the dark/light theme too!

Cadence

 Cascade

In 3rd, only one Dread is supposed to be in a pod, and the techmarine should really belong to the other group of Terminators I had to do, but I thought this was a nice grouping, even though each dread alone is a squad, and the techmarine belongs to neither.  March turned out to be a bit more busy than I thought, and I have promised an extravagance to the Overlord for my Wildcard month, so Rank and File these are since they can be.  They are elite troops in 3rd, so it's all good!

...and Pink Jade

The Techmarine is named Pink Jade, to fit with the song (Cadence and Cascade, and Jade).  This is the tech that is listed to have a Proton launcher, but since that doesn't exist so they got a missile launcher.   I also wanted to try a terminator with a horse head.  My Khorne termies have dog juggernaut heads, so....  I like the way it looks and will probably give a horse head to my hero next month.

So, the points
Chrysalis- Drop pod 0 pts
Cadence  Dreadnought 75pts + multimelta 40 pts  115 total
Cascade- Dreadnought 75pts + multimelta 40 pts  115 total
Pink Jade- techmarine 42pts and servo arm 30pts and missile launcher 20 pts  92 pts total

322 pt total

I think I will be doing my Leaders next month, I've been picking at them and it's a great way to get my big buffer back while not rushing!  I need a nice big buffer.  In May should be the remaining terminators and another larger scratchbuilt vehicle, and I have BIG surprise for my Wildcard month in June.  And there are always extras! (which since I am doing a 12 squad challenge elsewhere are not really extras.)  I plan to have 10 termies and 10 more marines stuck in there somewhere.  I really have to get back to that space hulk terminator list, the original point of this challenge!

For forms sake, here is the beginning to my May vehicle, and other starting shots for this month. since I didn't post them in the opening blog.

Dreadnought and techmarine

Drop pod

And the May Vehicle start

I am NOT making the mistake of assembling this one before I do paintings on the sides of this one (like I did with the rhino)
Onward to Leader Month!
