Björn Grendel's Unberogenes. Mounted nobles. Month four, rank and file.

The Nobles chargind into battle.

Worst part of this challenge Is the blog part. Is very time consuming since i have to use my phone, also, as Always, my pics are overexposed. Its very difficult without proper equipment...
But here we are again.

This time I focused on the wealthy ones. The nobles, among the Unberogenes, who can afford to own horses, iron armor and better weapons; rich in jewels and arrogance. Lots of arrogance.

I spent a lot of time deciding how to make this unit, how to make it cohesive but at the same time unique. At first I thought of using the theme of a single color that would tie them together again, or maybe a single common heraldry.
But then I decided to go wild and, in pure oldhammer style, I painted them individually, ranging as much as possible.
I obviously drew inspiration from some Norse or Irish designs, I inserted some obligatory oldschool checkers and then I dedicated myself to some more complex paintings. I remembered that we are in an era before the Empire and plausibly before the invention of heraldry. Things will soon change for the Unberogenes but for now fantasy is the master.

Karl of Steel and Hope. He sports a shield with a knot because the craftman misunderstood his name.

Ubbe Turgeisson. Daddy's boy, a spoiled brat and capricious beyond all limits. But his speed with the sword keeps everyone's mouths shut.

He bought this fur. He actually killed a leopard but he preferred to buy a new pelt rather than tan one himself.

Fianna Ulverdottir. Once a fierce Shieldmaiden but now calls herself a Shieldwidow. She carries her husband's weapons into battle, in honor of the only man who has ever defeated her.

This model is supposed to represent a male warrior, but i notice thinner and more feminine features in the face, especially in the chin and eyes. bangs and earrings increase this feeling so i decided to add some makeup and create a different character. i like her a lot

Bjorn Bjornsson, the Bear killer. Dont call him by his nickname without enough proofs.

He sports a Bear paw on his shields. Obviously.

Jago the Savage. He carries a shield with his bride's name, Aria, with blue eyes, red hairs and golden skin, one of the most beautyful women of the Tribe

Joup. Son of Japetus, sporting a mammoth at dawn. He Just bought his shield from shieldmaker but now he wants to ride a real One!

Jeop Is Joup's Brother. He painted his shields by himself, a Mountain Lion in Honor of his first hunt. Jeop Is a talented painter but he still prefers to fight!

Oden the twice hanged, banner bearer. He was actually hanged only once but a cool name is very important and young people respect him too much to criticize him.

His shields has the markings of an orc he killed once... Every warrior of the Tribe knows the tale.

The Bear was repainted over the captured banner of a fallen enemy Clan

Jurgen Windcaller. Because of reasons.
(Yes THAT reason)

He his the only to ride into battle without any protection. The Gods gifted him with visions of his death, by the hand of his son. So jurgen has no armor nor sons (yet).

Unit leader. Thurgeis Dwarfborn. Sporting a crane in honor of his Human mother and a big red beard in honor of his Dwarf father.

Group shot. I almost regret not to have used round bases....

And there we are. Individual nobles, individual names, individual colors, what am i missing? Oh. Yes. Those models, pointwise, count as:

10 mounted chaos thugs: hand weapon, heavy armor, shield  200pt

(command grup cost not included)

Still trying to improve my photo tecnique.. next month i think i will go freecard... Lets see what happens..

In the meantime, stay true, stay oldschool, and keep painting, Brothers!

Byron's Hippie Wood Elves - Leader Month (166 points)

This month was a relatively Low-Effort Month. I just painted up 4 minis and 4 banners (and almost finished 2 more cavalry).

Here's a pic of all the banners together.

First is a banner for my archers regiment (26 pts). It has a slogan "Save the Krakens" as a fantasy interpretation of the old "Save the Whales" environmentalist slogan from the 70s.

Here I have done my best to paint a Kraken based on the Man O' War miniature.

Next we have the army battle standard (98 pts). This is a freehand homage to the sun banner included in Warhammer armies. This is my favorite banner of the group.

On the back I have painted some lyrics to a Beatles song that is a bit on the nose.

The front of this banner is painted as a homage to the original Wood Stock poster.

And the back is a minor alteration on the Woodstock posters, here it is Woadstock, because they are celtic-y wood elves.

The wardancers' banner  (42 pts) has a quote attributed to Emma Goldman. Y'know because they dance and hippies are semi-revolutionary movement... and dancing would be important to them...

The other side of the banner features a freehand stylized picture of two dancing elves silhouetted by a fire in the woods.

Finally, my tribute: a marauder Dark Elf Assassin painted in a color scheme that I think will generally match my secret Santa. Not to get him in the mail this weekend.

Jaakko and Slargash - Leader month

As the final stroke of the ritual marked the completion of their arduous quest, Slargash gazed upon his reflection and smiled. But as Slargash surveyed his radiant army, a solemn question echoed in the depths of his mind. The camaraderie that had formed during their six-month odyssey made him think. The trials they had overcome together, the shared moments of triumph and exhaustion, had woven a tapestry of connection that transcended the boundaries of war and chaos.

With a heavy heart, Slargash looked upon the varied species that had found acceptance within their ranks. Men twisted by mutations, hounds, trolls, giants, beastmen, and even exiled knights stood shoulder to shoulder, bound by a common cause. Their differences, once reasons for conflict, now forged the foundation of an unbreakable bond.

The battles they had fought and the victories they had achieved seemed different now. The screams and destruction still brought Slargash a sinister joy, but he had a distressing feeling that they were fighting for a purpose beyond the confines of traditional notions of good and evil.

As the sun set upon the battlefield, casting an ethereal glow upon the now painted horde, Slargash turned to the Mad Spell twins and whispered. His voice was laced with uncertainty and almost broke when the words came out: "Are we the good guys?"

And so the last month of the challenge passed and it seems that I made it! I'm glad that I had the courage to take part in the challenge. I feel that I have learned a lot in the process, both as a painter and collector, but more than anything, I have learned that six months is a long time. At the moment I'm glad to not have deadlines and might let the brushes rest for a while.

Initially I pledged to paint Slargash and the Mad Spell twins during the leader month. Then I stumbled into the Chaos Brothers and a discipline master for the trolls and decided to add them into the mix. As some banners and a musician were delayed for other reasons this band of nine miniatures was formed.

This month in points:

- Slargash the Defiler, lvl 20 sorcerer: 240 pts

- Quel'lequeck Mad Spell x2, lvl 10 sorcerers: 170 pts

- Chaos Champion on a Chaos Steed: 157 pts

- Chaos Champion: 125 pts

- The troll discipline master, Chaos Warrior: 70 pts

- Banner for Marauders: 70 pts

- Army standard bearer with Chaos warrior stats and a musician for Chaos Warriors: 280 pts

OWAC VI total 5452 points, 101 models

Slargash of Many Colours

Jaek, a close relative of Draken Doom, on a Chaos Steed stolen from Aureola Rococo elves

Helwud, often mistaken for Draken Doom

I hope that my trolls will be less useless with a discipline master

A banner captured from the marauding orc army that is yet to materialise

"Chaos is inside me"

The bells! The bells! A musician for the unit of Chaos Warriors

Until next month!
