Filippo's Krieg and Renegades Army - Rank and File III

April was skipped, but actually there was a lot of painting done but nothing fully completed.

This means that there is quite a lot in May to be seen, and I'm pretty proud of the result.

First, I forgot in March to take a picturee of the Krieg's Engineers. The Hades Breeching Drill was already painted

Death from below!

For the Traitors forces, I completed the rest of the Khorne's 1000 points. Three Dreadnoughts (I forgot to paint one for the first squad), One Dreadclaw and eight Berzerk units.

Tiny skulls for the small throne of Khrone!

Renegades! Two units of 12 stands plus the commander.. Wait, something is missing..

I kinda had a breakdown when working on the second unit. At this point I painted about 140 infantry strips, without considering the artillery and the rest. I could not even look at them.

I painted six stands, so I could use them as an upgrade for the main unit and then started looking for something else to add

I can still feel the pain..

The project sure was lacking some old GW models. While digging in the pile of shame, a nice unit of ten Leman Russes was suddenly popped out. Score!

Vrooom Vrooom!

Uhhh! Hydras! Two, could be used as upgrade for the other Core Formation (a third will appear later)

Flyers won't stand a chance

But the hardest part was definitely the board. This 180cmx60cm and almost all the models will be used for a special demo table during ModenaPlay in just a couple of days!

In June I'll complete the rest of the infantry stands (argh!) and add some other units, I've almost complete the initial project

JohnR's Month 5 - Rank and File (573.5 points)

This month I wanted to finish off the minis that had made up the initial forces of the Axis of Evil, as presented waaay back at the beginning of OWAC V, and I’m happy to report mission accomplished. (Mostly*).

First up: wolf riders. The wolfboys are the eyes and ears of the Axis of Evil and their leader Zogrog takes his duties very seriously. He spends his days shouting and strutting about, drilling his troops to peak efficiency. Which for goblins means about as disciplined as a bunch of semi-feral five year olds.

Secondly: leadbelcher, very kindly donated to me, mint in box, about 10 years ago by my old friend Matt P. Matt, if you’re reading this, I finally got it painted buddy!

Aksys might be insane but even he can see that giving an organ gun to the most argumentative and chaotic group in a multi ethnic army is probably a bad idea. So in one of his more lucid moments Aksys introduced the goblins to the concept of civilised discourse and debate, in the hope that it would prevent them simply clubbing each other over the head at the first sign of disagreement.

Unfortunately, being goblins, the loudest and most obnoxious gobbo (who had an opinion about everything and never knew when to shut up) assumed that he was winning the debate by simply drowning out all opposition with an endless torrent of verbal diarrhoea, delivered at maximum volume.

At least, until his mates remembered they could just club the ignorant gobshite over the head.

Debate over :D

Finally: the splendid Drew Day Williams cloud giant.

Known affectionately as ‘Tiny’ by the gobbos he just turned up at camp one day and began following the Axis of Evil on their raids. Everyone assumed that he was attracted by the mushroom beer the goblins were brewing and the cages of human prisoners available for lunch but in truth he’s avoiding his giant, nagging wife and just glad to be out of the house.

Bonus stuff: Zombies

Probably the most terrible, garbage unit in all of 3rd edition but as an evil sorcerer I want Aksys to be able to cast demonic and necromantic magic and that means being able to summon stuff. Besides I like the idea that these unfortunate wretches are the victims of raids carried out by the Axis of Evil and / or the remains of Axsys' depraved experiments.

Life in the Old World folks: nasty, brutish and short. And sometimes followed by a bout of unlife where you get to nom the brains of your nearest and dearest.

This month's total:

11 Wolf Riders: standard and musician, spears, light armour and shields     169 points
Level 15 Goblin hero: Wolf mount, spear, light armour and shield                 52 points
Hen-pecked Giant:                                                                                          250 points
Lead Belcher:                                                                                                 102.5 points
20 zombies:                                                                                                    Free (and overpriced at that!)

*So yeah I finished most of the above with time to spare so I dutifully pulled the remaining skaven out of the leadpile.

I spent a couple of days staring at them on my paint station then stuffed them back in the 'to do' pile and painted the zombies instead lol. I don't know why, but I just couldn't motivate myself to paint those rats! Maybe next month :)

Adrian's dwarves - May rank & file month got slayed (141 points]

Rank & File Month

Instead of troubleshooting, we called the troublemaking department.

It is not a proper dwarf brawl until the orange angry naked guys appear.

Oli: Do you think that this is the right direction?

Plissken: I cn assure you that I already smell those orcs, we're near them.

Oli: We shouldn't have gotten into that fight with the giants, maybe the main orc army has reached the mine! Or they're fighting and overnumbering our lord Kazador retinue!

Plissken: tsssh, then we're now on an infiltration mission to save the presid.. I mean, the King.

...

Look. Orcs.

Oli:We must kill them silently before they make any nois..

AAAAIIiiieeeh! ORCS! ORCS!

ONE IS MINE!

*extremely loud drum noises* I'LL SMASH YOUR 'EAD!

BRING IT ON!

OOOOOORRRCsssssaaAAAAAARGH!!!

Plissken: Fine, probably all the valley knows we're here!

Snorri: Don't worry, they're just ahead! We've caught them by their backs! TROLLS! Plenty for FOR EVERYONE, GUYS! KILL 'EM ALL!

I imagine that most of the time the slayers are something like the Gutbuster brigade from Forgotten Realms. Tragical and suicidal warriors ruled by their death-oath, yet silly and unruly, as you can't really take too seriously a bunch of orange haired kamikazes.

This month updated comes with

Snorri and his troll slayers (x10 Slayers) - 141 points

I do not claim the points of the leader as Giant Slayer because I didn't paint it in the month leader, so basically he's just a cool dude.

As I said in the intro iirc, this special slayer came without the dragon head, but Drew's unused troll heads from my orc and goblin army came to the rescue and are a pretty good substitute.

To my surprise it fits the 20mm base with the troll head. So I am quite happy with the result.

The unit overall was pretty fun to paint, with lots of options for tatoos, body painting, details in the clothes, etc.

Berserk tatoo!

Svend D. "Snake" Plissken, of the special slayer forces of Karak Azul

I liked the idea of different races or skins for my dwarfs but too often there's nothing but small tonal changes like in WoW, and few to none real cultural changes. This slayer came from the very south karaks of the Old World, even farther than Karak Azul.

Not only I played with skin variation but also changes in the tattoos. The southerner has a slightly more central african "dwarf-ish" tattoo than the others (sadly I didn't check my photographs because the half angry face in his belly is hardly seen in the lot).

Whereas the most pale skinned dwarf has a traditionally viking-looking tattoo and freckles.

Again, didn't check that I had no good picture of him, the guy with the spiked ball, with the macro lens as I had to make the photos on the go. I can blame my assistant for not pointing out the quality of some pictures during the session.

Always blame the assistant.

Now, for the last batch of miniatures and the recap!

Until next month

Adrian’s out.
