Well that's it! Thanks to Iannick and the OWAC, I've finally painted some of my puff and stash Marauder dwarfs (and of course, bought some new models to maintain the pile of shame at the same level...).
I can't remember exactly when the idea occured to me that mercenary dwarves from the Grey Mountains could be seen as soldiers of the Old Swiss Confederacy, but flipping several illustrated chronicles (the Tschachtlanchronik, the Chronicon Helvetiae, Part I, Part II and Part III, and the Luzerner Schillling) convinced me that I could limit my palette to primary colors and paint a whole army with them.
The halberdiers of the Frostpeak hold have been processed using Berne's colors, replacing the original bear by a boar:
The pikemen of the BlackHorns clan have been painted using the colors of the Canton of Uri:
The crossbowmen of the FrostBeards clan wear the colors of the Canton of Zurich:
And finally, each bodyguard of the paymaster defends the interests and the colors of his own clan:
Speaking of the paymaster, this model turned my planning upside down, as I spent one full month to build the cart to carry the paychest of the Company.
And here is the final results after 6 months: a small force of 45 models (including the mule!) and a little more than 1000 points.
Once again, I've enjoyed the trip, and savored every entry of my fellow challengers.
See you next year hopefully! Can't tell with what, but definitely something from the Warhammer Armies book!
Lovely army, as always! Clever selfie too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lissanne. Yup. More convenient than a mask :)
DeleteAnother OWAC, another beautiful army! I really dig your process of creating heavily historically inspired forces. And those flafs are just gorgeous. Top stuff.
ReplyDeleteThanks Iannick. These historical references really helped here.
DeleteSuper, magnifique peinture et beaucoup de caractère, comme toujours 👍👍👍
ReplyDeleteMerci Venom ! Ca fait finalement assez peu de figurines, je suis content, les couleurs pètent.
DeleteEach dwarf is very well painted. :) if I painted each of my elves that well I don’t think I could have finished the challenge
ReplyDeleteEasy. Wake up early, paint the evenings and the week-ends, and refuse any possible distraction :)
DeleteSo massively impressive that I find myself at a loss for words. BRAVO!
ReplyDeleteMerci Chris
DeleteBeautiful as always, and the skin tones on each model is superb. Wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Glad you like them, even if I think I should have pushed the red tones a little bit more on the nose and the cheeks.
DeleteJust lovely work! Everything looks great, and very flavorful for my lizardmen to snack on :)
ReplyDeleteAh! Not in a lizard dream :)
DeleteA beautiful one indeed ! Remind me some good Rackham's vibes ;)
ReplyDeleteYup. Probably the bases :=p
DeleteExcellent work! Love the historical tie in for the colors.
ReplyDeleteThanks! These historical references helped a lot.
DeleteGod, these are so beautiful. Outstanding work.
ReplyDeleteReally liking the whole medieval Swiss vid.
ReplyDeleteEvery mini a work of art, beautiful work !
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, guys!
ReplyDeleteJust an outstanding, breathtaking force. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderfully realised project and a stunning army. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteStunning.
ReplyDeleteThe historical reference and how you have gone about creating a theme for your army is very inspiring. It was a pleasure watching this all come together.
Congrats!
Thanks! Finding a theme to paint an army (and stick to it) is part of the pleasure of army painting :o)

DeleteBeautiful painting, as always. I especially like the pike-dwarfs.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful army as always. The simple banners and the colours of each canton are beautiful, and the mixing in the paymaster retinue make those hammerers models look awesome. Better than the usual single colour in my opinion. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThanks Adrian!
DeleteReally a thing of beauty and the historical references really add to the enjoyment and lend the army a real identity and character. Always a pleasure to see your work and these were a real treat!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful army and masterful painting! A combination of amazing painting, lovely models and historical references makes for a perfect mix! You made each model into a tiny work of art. I really enjoyed your monthly updates and they rekindled my love for the dwarfs. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI've loved watching this force develop each month and the insights into how you built the army have been inspirational.
