As promised last time, this third month was dedicated to thunderers.
The dwarfs of the Red Claw clan are not fond of the fancy clothes worn in the Empire, and rather stick to leather gambesons and chainmails, the top of the fantasy being a coloured feather. Their attachment to the traditions and their native hold is symbolized by the mascot they bring to every battlefield: a fierce mountain bear, which also appears on the coats of arms of the clan.
Appenzell banner (1499) |
My
initial plan was to paint the standing bear of the Canton of Appenzell,
but it didn't fit with the format of the banner. I've used instead the
walking bear of the Canton of Bern as a reference. Below the original
and the painted copy:
From a slightly different angle:
The
musician is the other model slightly converted for this unit, by
replacing the original sword by a handgun.
The other dwarfs are MM10, MM15 or MM16 Marauder Miniatures, plus Cyril the bear from the old Citadel Dwarf King's Court set.
Second rank:
First rank:
And the full clan:
10 thunderers, with standard bearer and musician, make a total of 156 points. See you next month with a second unit of thunderers!
These are soooooo beautiful! You have outdone yourself! And Cyril
ReplyDeleteThanks Lissanne. Yes, the bear is a great miniature, once you've figured out where the chain ends and where the fur starts 🔍
DeleteThose are really really good, well done sir
ReplyDeleteOutstanding paintwork and you have added some real character to the unit with the bear and standard
ReplyDeleteThanks! Though I have to admit the bear was not part of the initial plans. But after the hobbits, and the jester, I've realised that these models brought a welcome variation, both in the painting job and in the resulting regiments.
DeleteA glorious unit - the skin you paint is magical, may they destroy the enemy with righteous black powder!
ReplyDelete... and the quality of their soft skin 😜
DeleteLovely stuff!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot everyone!
ReplyDeleteWonderful as usual. And I'd hate to be the guy who'd also used that bear in his army, that'd be terrible...
ReplyDelete😁😁😁
DeleteExcellent work - the inclusion of the bear mascot is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Despite the age of the model, it's still a pleasant miniature to paint, and also a very welcome break in the dwarf monotony.
DeleteEvery model a work of art as always dude.
ReplyDeleteGreat bear figure & standard, and I like the mix of figures. As always your painting is inspirational!
