Andrea's Wrap-up : Wood Elves Hunting Party, out of the wood

So, guys... OWACers,

here we are at the end of the journey! And I am proud and happy to see the Wood Elves warband assembled and fully painted.

Well, just to recap, here the army composition based on the 4th ed. army book:

Wood Elf General on steed, with lance .......................................(165 pts)

Mage Champion on unicorn ........................................................(211 pts)

10 Glade Guards, including standard bearer and champion ......(138 pts)

8 Archers, including standard bearer and champion .................(136 pts)

8 Wardancer ................................................................................(160 pts)

6 Dryads .......................................................................................(210 pts)

                                                                                        Total ...............1020 pts

The Wood Elves army has a special meaning for me: it was the first army I made for WHFB, back in the '97 or so, and it include the very first minis I ever painted about 25 years ago! So, it was a pleasure to paint (maybe for the third or fourth time) a Wood Elves warband.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to add some extras in the last challenge month, even tough I have a certain amount of 5th ed. wood elves still in waiting on the shelves (oh, well... yes... the famous elves on the shelves...).

Ok, then, let's start the show! First, the whole family picture:

The general and the mage on unicorn lead the raid out of the wood:

Sons of elven families serve in the army as Glade Guards:

A handful of archers emerges from the wood for an hit'n'run attack, led by a renown champion:

Deadly Wardancers dance the story of ancients while fighting:

From the mist of the deep wood, vengeful creatures emerge:

I chose a classical oldhammer color scheme, with bright and warm colors like those photos in the old 3rd ed. books. This also matches the image I always had of the fantasy world. Painting was done on a black-white priming, a sort of zenithal priming with the white sprayed from a single direction. Results are not always those expected, but I am completely satisfied by this method.

Well, the only think that is lacking is a battle to fight! For the moment I have no one still playing WHFB (no more...) in my gaming club, but one never know. Moreover, children are growing and it seems they like the stuff... let's see what happens!

For the moment here is my happy-face, oldhammerish picture:

I would like to thank all OWACers and the organizers for all this wonderful time. I learned a lot following mate challengers suggestions and inspiration; I really enjoyed such great company and it was a pleasure to see all those great models and army! I am proud for being part of all this and I am looking for the next challenge. Once OWACer, for ever OWACer!

Thank you all, ciao
Andrea
