This post will be short and sweet as there isn't a lot to say. Originally I had planned on painting 24 skeletons of the Nightmare Legion and while I managed to get the troopers painted the hero. musician and standard bearer didn't make it in time. Still its a start and I have learned a lot this month about these type of challenges. In the end I managed to get 22 troopers painted for a total of 308 points.
I haven't added static grass to the bases as I am undecided whether to use my regular mix or attempt something deader to give the impression of grass dying as the undead cross it. I will mess around with a few styles during February so will do these bases with the next batch.
I also need to improve my photo set up as my graded background is too small for the units and my game table is currently covered in work stuff. I will be more organised in February!
Others will disagree no doubt, but I like normal basing, so nice green tufts for example, with undeads. I find it contrasts nicely with the decaying corpse.
ReplyDeleteGreat productivity for month #1!
Thanks Iannick. It was great being in the OWAC and that is the most minis I have painted in a year I would say. I'll have to ponder the basing a bit more I think.
DeleteOo, these fellas been in the ground a while! Nice weathering on the shields, and a strong output 💪
ReplyDeleteExactly the look o was going for thanks 😊
DeleteReally nice! These guys evoke memories of the skeletons in the Jason and the Argonauts films (the proper one's, not any shoddy modern versions). I really like the mixed nature of colours and shields, lends itself to the random assembly of warriors of old. I agree with the Overlord regarding bases, A few tufts of green will help the models 'pop' further.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I am slowly painting a viking army so thought I'd match the undead to it with the shields. Never know when they might need allies/enemies.
DeleteLovely work John - those shields are great and the battle damage is executed perfectly. Gotta say I like the idea of the grass withering as they pass - those kind of narrative touches really do it for me! Now off to ebay for me - the Nightmare Legion are my favourite skeleton warriors that I still don't yet own XD
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve. I can't take all the credit for the shields, they are Little Big Men Studios transfers, all I did was make sure I chose a suitable election 🙂. I'm really split about the bases, I think I'll have to do a couple of test pieces and open it to the public.
ReplyDeleteWhile these are somewhat before my time I *really* like them: a proper, move-as-one unit mass of bodies with the historical style of different shields and so on providing visual spice. Makes me want to hunt out a bunch and add them to my SAGA not-zombie army...
ReplyDeleteI went and looked and now I know Gripping Beast do archers now. I may be lost...
DeleteNice work on some classic models. I've never seen them with shield like that - they really look good!
