Benjamin's 🐐KORAG OF THE PITS - Rank and File Part I (496 pts)

The sacred shrine of BOLOBYLE burns bright...

So where did January go? It's still 2005 right? Damn.

I must confess straight out that in an uncharacteristic show of personal efficiency I'd got all of this painted within a week or so of the new year - but just sat on it all as I wanted to get a mini-comic drawn to go with it. But alas, its not quite ready yet, so the fan-fiction will have to wait for a future month!

Korag's Pit Fighters

Well anyway - here they all are!

As mentioned last month. The hairy horde will grow incrementally each month as Korag, our heroic intrepid Beastman evolves from an illustrious Pit Fighter to a despoiling Conqueror.

Painting these guys was a BIG learning curve. Feedback from the OWAC group has been super helpful (verdigris really unlocked quite a bit on the metal!)

The colour logic was fairly straightforward, and made it quite easy to paint towards the end (hopefully the 100+ models still to paint will be equally fun!) Spending a bit of time visualising some options on test models really paid off - especially as I discovered how much more you can get from the Ral Partha and Midlam Olley beastmen if you just swap their heads around.

Bob Olley Beastmen - each the price of a meal deal or less!

Korag of the Pits...

Korag is the palest of the gang, just to make him stand out.

He's 100% Olley bits - cool points to anyone who can guess all of them. There was quite a bit of additional sculpting however just to ruin that prior statement.

I've got a huge soft spot for the Talisman range, and the Gladiator figure was a big inspiration...

Actually no, I don't need a hug.

The Rank and File...

I know some of you square base purists are holding back vomit - but rotating circular bases really do come into their own with all these big elbows.

The Pit Fighters comprise of all my non-spear wielding Tzaangors. I reasoned they'd be a bit more athletic and ornate looking (the Pestigors do look like they need a little love in comparison). I'd originally planned to convert a champion, but the guy with the massive hat kept out staging him - so he won out in the end...

The standard bearer you can find at Midlam Miniatures (along with many other great Olley Beastmen). The musician was another Bolley Bash - making particular use of a Ral Partha Chaos drummer. The feet took a while to sort - only to get hidden behind some tufts.

Points...

I feel like I'm cheating by including two characters this month. But if all goes to plan there'll be plenty to spare.

Anyway - Warhammer maths time, using 3rd Edition Armies Book.

Thanks go to ZHU and his thread on the oldhammer forum for the fonts

Where does Murfang put his horns? Does he just tuck them in?

It should be about 496.

Anyway - that's enough or now! A massive pile of Pestigors and Minotaurs next month...

Maybe a comic too? We'll see.

  5. Awesome work - really love the dark colour scheme and the verdigris really adds to their ornate armour and shields. I know the Chaos Drummer mini well having painted it in the last OWAC - cracking conversion! Oh - and illustrations too - amazing!

  7. Very stylish indeed! Love the muted palette - greenish metal and verdigris in particular. Impressive efficiency - well done painting 24 beasts in just over a week! The unit cards really add to the general oldhammer feel. Great job!

  9. What a month. The ebastmen look positively brayte! The vergiris looks fab. But a week to paint all of them? Nuts! I think it takes me a week of looking at them just to clean a space to paint 😂
