Byron's Introduction - Hippy Wood Elves

Hey, friend,

I'd like to share with you my groovy band of wood elf friends. My plan is to paint up as many of these radical forest defenders over the next 6 months. To make them distinct I plan to sculpt flowers onto them. Additionally, plan to paint up their various standards with humorous war-like hippy slogans. Finally, I created a wood elf name generator on excel. I plan to use it to name the wood elves - at least the characters.

I think that I have a healthy supply of rank and file minis that I should be able to create an army that is compatible with 3rd and 4th edition Warhammer. I have an additional 16 spearmen and 20 monopose plastic archers that I can paint to make the army legal if that becomes an issue.

All of the wood elves in one place.

Here, you can see the wood elf shelf in context. It is between the last two OWAC Armies I painted.

Here you can see the many animals I have accumulated: Dogs, cats, and bears. The dogs are citadel but the cats and bears are a mix of old Ral Partha and Grenadier bears.

Elves for the baggage train. I got some grenadier wood elf musicians and converted them to seated positions. My goal is to reproduce the Olley dwarf pint pals and have then seated together on a log. The eagle rider will be put on a mat to look like he is doing yoga.

This is the treeman. I've taken the Durthu model and significantly modified his pose and neck to make him more like the old treemen miniatures from the time.

These are my elven lords. They are a combination of 4th edition glade riders and warhawk riders put on 80s citadel and grenadier horses with a variety of shields to match the 80s vibe.

Here is the general of my army, Scarlas Forestmane. He is a citadel elf general with lance atop a grenadier horse. I have already sculpted flowers for his hair. He will be among my the minis in my first month's post.

This character has been converted to be giving the peace sign as well as flowers in his hair. The name generator tells me he is BeaVandrel Lightglade

No oldhammer wood elf army would be complete without a warrior atop a great eagle.

These 10 archers will also comprise my first month. I have also green stuffed some flowers onto them. I have an additional 6 of the original scarloc archers.

handful of archers to use as glade runners or way watchers

Wardancers. I plan to convert 1 to a standard bearer and give some of them sashes and pennants to wave around since the group I have came missing some of the swords. Also the round bases will be removed. Squares are the only appropriate bases for warhammer.

I plan to convert the wizard on foot to ride an old grenadier unicorn.

Finally, I plan to challenge myself by only using the paints contained in this craft paint set as well as an old tube of craft silver paint.

  1. Only 8 colors! That's very brave, even for an elf 😁

  2. I still think your paint plan is insane (not because of the colours, but because of the likely poor quality of the paint) but I love the chaotic makeup of your army. My wood elf ranks look a bit uniform by comparison!

  3. The conversions on Durthu and the riders look really nice. Good luck for this owac.

Your conversions and greenstuff additions look great. I hope you can make those paints work

  5. That is a faaar out army! And I'm all in on using just the colours in the box - love that plan. Good luck with the realisation of this wonderful force!
