Oh boy! The wheels really came off this month!
Holy Cow!
Ooops
February was always going to be a grind. I'd gone in hoping to paint both a horde of Pestigors AND a unit of Minotaurs. In the storyline (the much anticipated comic...) they both show up together. But ALAS - it was not to be - and the Pestigors just need a bit more attention.
Sorry guys - maybe next month...
What went wrong?
Well I think the horde was just too much. Painting 24 models was a breeze in January - but upping that to 48 (and yes I was doing them as one big block) totally broke me. And by broke I mean sent me straight to procrastination land. And when you're procrastinating to get away from painting Warhammer figures you know you're really in deep.
Excuses.
So enough of all that. What DID get painted?
The Pit King's Despoilers
12 hairy beasts. Hairy, and still wet with varnish.
Paint-wise it was very much a rinse and repeat from last month - however I'd not made any note of what paints I was using - so there was a little dabbling and detective work to figure it all out.
The miniatures are former Olley's Armies Minotaurs, that you can now acquire very affordably from
FORLORN HOPE GAMES. As with many Olley Sculpts - I find the poses to be a little flat. Literally. I don't know if this is an economy of the casting process, but with a little love, attention - and a dremel - you can soon sort that all out.
Thank goodness there was only TWELVE of them.
I wanted the champion to mimic the Korag Conversion planned for the final month - so I repurposed a little banner top from an Olley Essex Dwarf (total gold mine of miniatures). It was really nice FINALLY painting him as I've been itching to do so since November.
His right arm is actually substantially longer than his left one. Can you tell?
For those who want to know - the standard bearer borrowed some bits from an Orc Banner (from Ral Partha) - and a cocktail stick (from M&S).
Shortly before receiving some banana fingers.
Points...
So yet again I'm heavily propping up the bottom line with a hefty character, and giving everyone a bit of armour and equipment - but then I did fail to paint an additional 36 beastmen, so I've got to make it up somehow.
The head maths brought it in to be about 688pts
Officially it's 24 centaurs next month - and the Pestigors just for fun if that's allowed.
Don't ask about the comic.
Oh, their nice, we like them - a lot.
ReplyDeleteYou did a lot of good work, even without the comic!
ReplyDeleteWow!!! I love them!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your doodles with the unit stats. Very characterful. :)
ReplyDeleteYou set a huge goal, but what you've got done is plenty, and they look great.
ReplyDeleteVery nice work, I love the variety in fur tones!
ReplyDeleteOne of my 'most watched' for this year - keep up the good work dude !
ReplyDeleteCommiserations on the Beastmen but loving those Minotaurs!
ReplyDeleteWow! You're setting yourself some tough targets in a month. Luckily, when you 'fail', you still manage to deliver a cracking unit!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the centaurs next month! If you finish round off the Pestigors, you'll already have a massive army!
Any noth where you turn out a unit of Bob Olley Minotaurs is a bloody good month! I really appreciate all your work on this project. Keep going with it all, it will really pay off! :D
ReplyDeleteYeah, no fails here - they look cracking! And well above the required minimum, so you're still knocking it out the park AAANNNDD you're set up with a head start for next month. Nice work!
