Copper Oracle | 7 Leader and extras (769 points)

'Some have called us the Damned because of the strength of our swords, but we stand in the Emperors Light and can do no wrong'

Lieutenant-Commander Thrace at the Desolation of Eden IV

For the final month I had several pieces left over as well as the Leader, the bulk of these were  figures I had as part of his command squad, the Librarian, a marine as Standard bearer, and another Chaplain. I had two more techmarines which I had picked up as broken lots, repaired one with a spare Power fist (for repairing big things with a big knock!) and another with a repaired wrench. One of the techmarines had unsuccessfully been part of the last two months sets so was well overdue paint!
There was also my last Dreadnought which I had been saving as his base was a bit more detailed with a dead marine.

The last batch was a medical team which i had managed to put together from various bits and thought would make a nice counter to the all black Police unit.

Lieutenant- Commander Thrace
Kneepad is decorated with half  a red open mouth and three stars of a Lieutenant Commander.
The red open mouth  has echoes of the World Eater icon and is the badge of the 8th Company, the 'Fire Eaters'

Personal heraldry with the half a red open mouth and half the Chapter icon on reversed background

Librarian Haze

Painting up the Medical unit also gave me an opportunity to go back over the first medic as I was not happy with the white and black ink look so effectively painted up 3.5

The last of my Dreadnoughts

Standing on the corpse of a Mantis Legion marine who the Fire Hawks fought against in the Badab War

Lieutenant Bec

This was originally one of my veteran squad from last month but I have repainted his leg and shoulder as personal heraldry and promoted him to lieutenant as one is needed as a compulsory army choice choice. His place in the ranks will be filled with my pre challenge test piece.

Chaplain Goloc
repained Blood Angel Chapain

The Scratch built Rogue Trader Grav Tank is an iconic piece, and even given cannon status with a Horus Heresy art piece. I had been gathering all original pieces, from the medical spoon to the zoid parts and was just looking for the right deodorant stick when one was created and released by a 3D print designer (Mr Big Tong) so I jumped ahead of the search and printed one.

Original Grav Tank

Horus Heresy Emperors Children Grav Tank

Fire Hawks Grav Tank, Lance of Zhoros

The victim of a childhood 'Conversion' with a drill (for battle wounds!) I repaired him with some Green stuff to take the role of Standard bearer

Bionic restoration and banner pole (not perfect but the join will be hidden by the standard thankfully)

Paper banners are very Rogue Trader so sketched and painted...

In a final night session I was able to finish the last two Techmarines but not the Rhino but the challenge is done!

  3. These are so great that I won't take it personally that you used my chapter as basing material.

    1. Thank you! Using the Mantis Legion was actually a nod as they are another favourite of mine and will probably make up a force of them at some point!

  4. Awesome finale. All the little freehand detailing is wonderful - this month I'm particularly fond of the star on Lieutenant Bec!

  5. A very productive end to the challenge! I really love the bold colour scheme of the Fire Hawks, and I can't help wondering if those medics need just a touch of red on them? Maybe just one elbow pad, or 1/3 of the studs on the shoulder pad? Just a suggestion, and offered with great respect as this is one of my favourite armies of the whole challenge :)

    1. Thank you! It some point I plan on going over the troops and adding a bit of weathering and some more detailing so will take on your suggestion then, I had thought of a adding a Fire Hawks panel similar to what I have done with my Techmarines
