Having reviewed my efforts whilst taking these pictures I'm coming round to the idea that my struggles with getting them finished - was me, rather than the army choice, my mojo just simply evaporated in the last couple of months, and the only thing that got me there was sheer bloody grit (obviously, that's the Scot/northerner in me). So on with the show - a few close-ups of individuals and units to show off all my shaky brush work and casting lines I didn't file away.
First up, a general shot of the army without my face looming over it.
Ashigaru, hopefully, when it comes to actually playing with these chaps they'll provide a steady stream of bowfire.
One of my Samurai units - to slice and dice
A second Asigaru unit - you can never have enough bows
A second unit of samurai to hold the other flank.
Finally, a photo of the army with my army pose!
Oh, and if you look very carefully, you might even find a ninga, good luck.
Next year for the tenth BOYL, these boys and girls will be playing the part of the rescue party of a big game, played over the course of the weekend, I've been planning for a number of years. So, if you're going to be there and want to play the part of a chaos wizard (wishing to commune with his god), a hard bitten Imperial captain (hoping to survive, until he retires), an ogre mercenary (looking for work), a gang of giants (looking for trouble), a family of trolls (on a camping trip), a band of wolf riders (escorting the wizard and his entourage), a clan of barbarians (bent on revenge) or an army of black orcs (playing the part of the local heavies), the choice is yours and if, the wizard makes the appropriate sacrifice there might even be a demon horde (next years OWAC), let me know? All will be catered for, with individual missions and targets over the course of the weekend!
My challenge for next year a Chaos undivided lesser demon horde, who could show up in the game, if, the rescue party doesn't do their job! All inspired by previous entries, see you all next year.
It looks great! Super colourful and kuddos for not giving up! Looking forward to next year's daemons!
ReplyDeleteThanks, the remainder of the nippons are going back into the to do box and will be left there for a considerable time! As for the demons - easy, I've already started on the other stuff (not shown) and am already piling my way through it all.
DeleteWell done on completing such a big, brightly coloured force. These are exactly the sort of highly detailed and un-uniform minis which really don't suit my painting style, and you've painted unit after unit of them. Hats off for that :)
ReplyDeleteAnd you've already prepped next years army???
Big thank you, much appreciated.
DeleteBoth your force and you look great! Shoulda put your mug at the top! Nihon-Go!
ReplyDeleteThanks, much inspred by what I saw others doing, including yourself.
DeleteVery nice army! Your example has me thinking I need to expand my Samurai mercenaries with a few more units!
ReplyDeleteSmall batches is the best way to go abd take regular breaks. good luck
DeleteSweet jibbers crabs, all in they're formidable and amazing. The colours! Must feel proper ploughing on through The Grind and completing an army a couple of years in the making - congratulations!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, I didn't realize what I'd done until I looked back!
DeleteYou really did show grit and determination on this one, and it bloody well paid off! I love the fact that you are painting these for a massive BOYL game - it sounds absolutely epic! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, I really did surprise myself. The big game has been a long time coming and has developed into something far bigger than my initial idea, especially as one force of Black Orcs has over three hundred figures in nine units!
DeleteExcellent work as always Paul, looking forward to seeing you at BOYL and what you do with all those daemons :)
ReplyDeleteSee you there, as for the demons they've sat in boxes for way too long.
ReplyDeleteTerrific job Paul! Each figure has so much character and the work you've put in was well worth it! They look stunning :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, but are we looking at the same army or am I being too critical of my own work? All I see are the wonky line work, the botchy colours and the popping eyes and the heavy varnish :o ;o :o? IT's me, it's me
DeleteThis is a great achievement, and I'm glad to see you made it through the challenge. Know it's tough when you're just not feeling a project. It's a great looking army, and so rarely seen.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words
