In the depths of the forest, where no man ever ever stepped in, was the Spring of Lawën. Only the oldest elves knew the legend that accompanied the place...
“When the great forest does not wake again with the rays of dawn, when spring does not bloom anymore at the King’s Glade, when the end comes to Athel Loren… The halls of the spring will be reopened, and the elven people of ancient times will dance to melodies of hunting"
Hi, my name is Mariano and from the first day I started to play Warhammer one of my dreams has been to have a fully painted Wood Elves army, and the dream goes on...
When I'm depressed, I look at this picture and it goes away... |
That was the start of all my participations on the OWAC. A new OWAC means for me another bunch on Wood elves in order to achieve my goal, to paint all wood elves in the Citadel Red Catalogue and Marauder. And once I finish this one, I´ll be really close to finish
All started the 11 of May of 2017. I decided to participate in a challenge with some friends. I even had to do a list of AoS to be on it!!
As yo can see, I´m a truly lover of nature. Link to the post: Introducing 'A Tale of 9 Warlords' - The 1,000 points Warhammer Age of Sigmar painting challenge! - volomir.com |
At that point I had no idea about "my decision" but I´m pretty much sure it was somewhere in my mind. I finish my painting list 6 months later and I was so happy with the result.

I continued painting some unis and characters, but with no goal the hype was decreasing...
Sometime later, on the 21 of December of 2020, after many posts of many painters (envy was really high) I wrote my first OWAC post. And the little seed that was on my mind bloomed (Wood elves joke) with the idea of painting all Wood Elves models,

6 months later, I have some characters and 5 infantry units. I was so happy with the result.
The Old World Army Challenge: Mariano Sánchez - Make the forest great again (1364 pts) |
On December 21, 2021, I was totally focus on finish my mission. For this OWAC I presented a fully cavalry army. Not the best idea, for sure, but I would have to paint them soon or later so...

And after so much pain (don´t want to paint a cavalry model ever but still have some of them to paint) at the end of the 6 months I added 6 cavalry units and three mounted characters, including my general on great stag, great horned horse for me.

What I expect for the future? first of all, to finish the OWAC successfully. Besides this, I want to continue painting wood elves the rest of the year to be sure that 2024 OWAC will be the last one painting the Wood Elves.
Talking about the future, still have to find some references. If you have some of the following references and you want to sell or trade them, I´m your man. Please, leave a message on this post and I will contact you. Have cash and some oldhammer stuff.
Right now, I´m able to play a Warhammer game with I fully painted army, but I would be nice to have more options to do the army list. So, this year, I´m going to add some treekin, Wildwood Rangers and, as if I don´t have a lot of work ahead, some miniatures from the 5th edition (sculpted by Gary Morley) as Scouts, Waywatchers (both of them have the Wood Elves vibe) and a General on a green dragon. Let's see them:
Painted treeman will be painted but not counted on the OWAC list |
What we have on the pic, following the Wood Elves army book for the fourth edition are:
- 1 x General (light armour + spear + shield + dragon): 612
- 9 x Glade Guards - AKA Wildwood Rangers (spears - aka axes+ standard bearer + musician + paladin): 159
- 10 x Waywatchers: 180
- 10 x Scouts: 160
- 6 x Treemen - AKA Treekin: 1680
Total amount: 1680
But this is not enough to fulfil the minimum requested by the OWAC rules, so I have on the bench, ready to be added, the following miniatures:
- 5 x Mounted characters
- 2 x Mages
- 10 x Wardancers
- 10 x Archers 160
- 4 x Glade guards AKA Eternal guards
What do you think, will I be able to finish them?
And last but not least, the well-deserve offering. You wanted something spooky, let me introduce you "G´knarl No hands". He was really close to be ascended as a demon prince, but Chaos gifts are fickle and now he is so desperate to find his hands...
Hurry up! Hide your hands on your pockets |
