Ben F's Epic Orks Rank and File month 3 - Kult of Speed

I've painted a fun mixture of infantry, bikes, vehicles and skimmers this month, partly themed around the Ork's Kult of Speed, but mainly themed around not quite having the right number of models for complete NetEpic army cards.

The Spleenrippas I seem to remember being released in about the third White Dwarf I ever bought and were a joy to paint - highlighting rivets has never been so satisfying.

The buggies are the plastics which are fine on their own, but a bit small and undefined compared to the other stuff.  The metal wartracks are, I think, older; I'll count them as warbuggies in my Kult of Speed, having melted a few of the plastic ones by using the wrong kind of paint stripper.  The Nobz bikes and Deffkoptas are from Vanguard and a slightly larger scale but all mixed together they seem fine.  Being bigger will help differentiate the Nobz from the normal plastic bikes I already have, which I can now use as bikeboyz.  On checking my NetEpic army book, I find that Coptas come in squadrons of 5, so I'll either take an unofficial squadron of 4 for 100 pts instead of 125, or save them for games of Epic Armageddon.

The Mekboyz are also Vanguard.  The detail on them is fantastic - I guess they were designed on computer and the moulds made from 3d prints or something, as surely no human hand could have designed the teeny-tiny spanner glyphs on their helmets at that scale.  I could use them as a Mekboy Special Card, but I mainly got them to use them as the last couple of Nobz stands in the Warboss Special Card detachment after an administrative error led to me putting all the Meganobz onto four bases last month.

So I now have completed the following:

Company:
Kult of Speed (5 Nobz Warbikes, 2 x 5 Warbuggies) - 400 pts

Support:
Evil Sunz Nobz Warbikes
 - 200 pts
Evil Sunz Spleenrippa Squadron -
125 pts
Copta Squadron - (4 Deffkoptas) -
100 pts

Together with the 1,350 points of Snakebites and the Warboss, that comes to a total since January of 2,425 points to add to my existing Epic Bad Moons, Goffs, Evil Sunz and Kult of Speed.  It will mean I could split my existing Kult of Speed in two; but only once I've added a Blood Axe and Deathskulls clan to complete the set and let me start to double up. One of every clan - that would be cool...

With that in mind, I was tempted to swap from my original plan, of painting the remaining traktor kannons , doomdiver magna kannon and shokk attack gunz in Bad Moons colours to support that clan, to painting them as Deathskulls, and painting up a Deathskulls Clan (15 Boyz, 4 Nobz) to go with them. The instinctive behaviour of Deathskulls (instinctive behaviour kicks in if the Nobz die or wander off) is to go sit on an objective on Advance Fire orders, which would be okay. However, a dig through my pile of opportunity reveals dozens of boyz, a smattering of grots, but only 5 Nobz models.  But then I had a cunning plan.  Combining a Nob and a bunch of 'Eavy Weapons boyz might make for convincing Deathskullz Nobz stands.  That would leave the Blood Axes.  I've got plenty of Rhinos and Land Raiders that would look great mixed up with battlewagon bits.  And I once got gifted some models that I think are meant to be proxy epic Terminators.  They don't, to my mind, look quite right as Terminators - but they could make quite fun Blood Axe Meganobz. Let's see if I can make it work.

  3. Yesss! Who doesn't love a Kult of Speed? I always think the tiny ones seem to go even faster than the 40K ones too :D

Loving the ideas for Deathskulls and Blood Axes :)
