I took full advantage of the time off at the start of the year to get as much done in my first month as possible. I have some travel planned for Feb, plus it being a bit shorter means I probably won’t get as much done as in Jan so I really wanted to put in a good show for that first month.
I started with the unit of spear wielding Forest Goblin troops. As mentioned in my intro I have a couple of extra ranks of most units so when I was done with the 15 I had earmarked as the core amount for the unit I carried on painting another ten for a total of 25. I haven’t decided what I am doing with the banners yet so they will likely remain with bare poles until the end of the challenge where I will do them altogether:
There were a couple of things I had to do with this unit I thought worth highlighting. The models I got hold of for this army didn’t have enough of the original shields to cover everything, and rather than spending hundreds on Ebay trying to track them down I just decided to 3d print them so the whole army would be consistent.
Also I didn’t have enough spear armed Goblins, but had extra sword armed ones, and a couple of extra Standard Bearers, so I converted them to be holding spears, heresy? Probably:
Next up I turned my attention to a smaller unit, some bow and arrow Forest Goblins, ten in total including a musician:
Finally I wanted to test out my paint schemes for the Spider Riders but not on those models, so thought I would quickly do the Spider Swarms to see if my plans would work. I think they look decent so I will give them a try with their bigger cousins in a couple of months' time. Keen to hear what people think about my rainbow of legs:
This month I managed to paint the following:
Whats not to like about a horde of goblins
ReplyDeleteThe amount of them I need to paint lol
DeleteAmazing colours!
ReplyDeleteThank you! An assault on your eyes is what I am going for :)
DeleteI'm not usually very excited by goblin armies (not even my own!) but these are brilliant. The basing is fantastic and your colours mean that the gobboes somehow blend in AND pop out simultaneously.
ReplyDeleteThe spiders are cute, which is not something I say very often as a committed arachnophobe!
I also identify as an arachnophobe, I am hoping to try and address this with this army because there are many more spiders to come!
DeleteThis forest looks a little bit fearsome ;) Vibrating colours plus really cool leaves creates unique army. I'm waiting for more!
ReplyDeleteThose spiders - I want to pet them, they couldn't be dangerous ;)!
Thank you, and I am very sure they are friendly. You should totally pet them...
DeleteI like the colour scheme you have used with the spider swarms and am sure that the spider riders would look great in the same scheme.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great looking force here, keep up the good work!
Thank you! I am hoping the spider scheme scales up well, I guess we will see soon.
DeleteWow! What a productive month for you! I love your vibrant colors and your bases. Very well done and we really get the sense that they are… Forest Goblins!
ReplyDeleteBosh! You smashed January and no mistake! Really impressive numbers and quality and consistency. The colour pallette for the Gobbos is both subtle and bright, and really evocative basing. Top stuff all round.
ReplyDeleteThe spiders look proper venomous. You'd really worry if you got bitten by one of those!
My favorite goblins !! I just love the bases you made, perfection !
ReplyDeleteFlipping fantastic! The basing and the colours, it looks incredible!
