Oueff!.OWAC, what a ride!
Here's those xenos orks out in all their glory, plus myself in obligatory Bryan Ansell pose - tucked in sleeves and all. Missing moustache and mullet though...
And a far more orkish pose:
Ah, that's better - da boyz in all der gloree!
And this is where it all started:
You can see that I definitely showed a lack of fortitude with sticking to my planned list! I neglected to paint a vast amount of ork boys, almost half the cyboars and a few bikers. I did add quite a few more gretchin, freebooters, tanks and squigs though...
My pictures are all taken on my decidedly less than top notch smartphone, as I thought it would be unfair to inflict the task of photographing them onto my professional friend. He worked so hard on them last year!
As a heads up, there's bits of fluff and cat hair abound sooo, sorry about that...
Anyway...
My boss, with the bigboss and a backup of heavy weaponry.
Three meks and a painboy. Gretchin also in attendance.
Freebooters! Please excuse the far left model - it's the mek from the pic above, doing that thing that the kids did at school for their school photo 🏃...
Biker boyz! These were soul destroying to paint, although they do look much better in the hand than they do in photographs which I'm quite pleased about. I really like how the Nobz bike came out in the end :)
Cyboar boyz. I feel I could've painted a few more of these - I quite liked painting the boars. I think I just mentally drew a line under five models and struggled to press on...
Buggies and a skorcha. These took a while to get going, but once I was amongst it I found myself looking forward to painting them.
Runtherd and assisting grots. I love this unit! My favourite figure is the lil' guy holding the spanner - back row, first from the right.
Squigs! What's an ork army without a few squigs eh? My favourite is the yellow boi, front middle.
Gretchin. I really tried to paint all the sculpts I had. I went and brought ones I didn't have especially (many thanks to the Oldhammer FB sellers). In the end, I've two left on the painting table, and three gretchin assistants in the unpainted pile. They'll have to wait until next year or something.
It's quite hard to pick a favourite, but I'm going to go for the peg leg guy in the bottom pic. Notable mention goes to the two carrying stuff, hunched over on their backs - I enjoyed painting them!
I think I have four more to find to complete the hobby bingo, but they seem to be as rare as hens teeth so I'm not holding out much luck.
Here's a catalogue bingo sheet, so nearly filled in! You can see the WIP in two of them there at time of posting...
And a nice shot of all the little runts from both OWAC's with their herders
Big Gunz! I pushed myself on these to actually get paint on them. I'm super pleased that they're done. (The Hop Splatt will be towed by my wartrakk from last year)
So, with regard to painting I didn't really change anything from last year. Maybe apart from the basing. I think last year I added tufts of grass and barbed wire, whereas this year I didn't - the skulls were enough to add a bit of interest. I also probably painted a bit more 'sparsely' this year. I could've added a lot more detail to certain things (the robot/boom wagon are easy examples), but I feel they mix in well and the overall look is not diminished. I am close to using up a whole tub of the turquoise contrast paint, which I've not done before (used a whole contrast tub, that is). And I'm scraping the barrel of the blue/green/red and yellow which is nice :)
Here's a nice pic of ALL the boyz when I went and had an introductory 1000point game last month at my FLGS. Although it's mildly distressing how many of those models are just for fun - no in game effect at all....unless played under RT rulez, which I guess is kinda pleasing in it's own way!
And here they all are for a proppa pic - my Old World Army Challenges 3 and 4 together.
I am very much a painter who needs a push to actually paint, so a massive thank you to all the OWAC challengers, the admin Byron, and most especially to Iannick - the founder. What a legend! and without whom it's most likely all this would still be in the loft (or unbrought *ahem*)
I also added a cigar to a freebooting gretchin that I painted last year. Here he is for completion :)
My storage for all of them is this big red box from Halfords. The bases have all got magnets in, so they will stick....However, I now realise that it is not enough just to use super glue to bind the magnet to the base. Some kind of filler putty to really sick it in there is definitely needed, as the magnets keep on popping off the bases to stick to the metal instead!.
Anyhow, they'll be packed away now until I either get them out to game with (a rare occurance, but there's a couple of games in the pipeline), or I garner enough motivation to add more - next year maybe!
So, thank you - the viewer, for following along. If you left a comment, be assured that it really did help me pick up the brush when the grind got real!
Nowt left to say now except....
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!

LOVE the army! And the Ork pose is a winner!
ReplyDeleteHa! The other half was laughing at me so hard, she couldn't take the picture for a while!
DeleteI really enjoyed following along with your painting journey!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's always such a motivator (and validator) to see that people read the blog... Thanks again 👊

ReplyDeleteAs the last year, one of my favourites. Really love how colorful they are painted and how amazing looks together. FANTASTIC WORK!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! All together they look much better than I thought they would, so I am super chuffed with them. It's mad looking back that they're actually painted and that I actually painted them 😅!
DeleteSo many colours :) Amazing army!
ReplyDeleteAh, you legend - cheers! I'm proper pleased with how they look as a whole. Hopefully another ork faction will provide a nice contrast to those colours next year, but we'll see if the motivation holds! I hope to see you back in for another OWAC - your armies are super inspiring.
DeleteFantastic army! Love the colours, the quantity, and the enthusiasm for it. It's certainly one of this year's top projects
ReplyDeleteNice one Iannick, thank you! Hopefully life has calmed down for you and you can lead from the front once again in next years OWAC 💪
DeleteAbsolutely knocked it out of the park dude. Every mini characterful and beautifully painted and with a strong, unique style to the army. Perfection.
ReplyDeleteSuperb from start to finish! In my OWAC top three for the second year running :D
ReplyDeleteNow, get on with those Warbikes! :p
Aaaaargh, the dreaded warbike 😬Soul draining things! I think my goal for them is to paint a test model for Christmas, this time in a different paint scheme, and then try and paint the rest next year. There's no way I'm voluntarily painting them 😂😅
DeleteCheers for the motivating comments along the way :)
Fraggin' awesome!!
ReplyDeleteGloriously Green, well done sir
ReplyDeleteThank you sir!
DeleteBeautiful army, and a great pose in your pictures. Well done!
ReplyDeleteHa! Thanks to my other half for taking the pics (and not laughing TOO much!)
DeleteThank you very much :)
ReplyDeleteSo so colorful, awesome army. The yellows are amazing like the last year, but with so many motifs and different mixes this year, it really pops-out. The tank was pretty unique with its graffities.
ReplyDeleteAahh, cheers Looking back at everything it's always a wonder that it actually got painted - especially that TONK! Nice one :)
Deleteda orkssss!! this army is absolutely rad beyond compare
ReplyDeletewaaaaaAAAAAaargh!
DeleteCongratulations on another Orktastic OWAC! Good luck on those games in the pipeline, I'm jealous of your opponent(s) getting to face off against such an intense and perfectly composed Waaaaagh!
ReplyDeleteThank you! My opponent will certainly love wiping my force from the battlefield 😂, man there's so many roolz to remember in this current 40k edition. Maybe I really should push a game of 2nd ed upon him... :)
DeleteCongrats on a super army!
ReplyDeleteI never get tired of seeing this army grow! Such a great mix of figures, all fantastically painted and oozing character!
